The thing about Adventure Time is that, no matter what is happening onscreen, no matter how weird or confusing, it’s just everyday life for the characters. They have lived in this bizarre world their entire lives, they don’t know anything else, they have very few of the expectations for anything that we would have. And with the world being so weird from the beginning, the writers and artists can really do whatever they want within an episode. It doesn’t all have to follow the same structure or rules, as long as it happens in 11 minutes. So you get stuff like this and it flows very naturally onscreen. The episode directly before this was about a cinnamon bun who comes to life. The one before that is about a version of Finn who survived a time travel accident and turned into a sword that the onscreen Finn uses as a weapon, and then carelessly loses off a cliff. All of it just flowing right into the next thing like a very strange, dreamlike river.
