A Common Complaint Ive Seen About Dragon Age Inquisition Is About Its Roleplay Capacities
A common complaint ive seen about dragon age inquisition is about its roleplay capacities
Specifically about the way the origins dont really affect the narrative when perhaps they should, and the lack of meaningfull control over your characters story
And while i think thats honestly a good criticism, it might unintentionally be a really good framing for the inquisitor
Because, as has been going around a bit,
the narrative is a bitch.
Your inquisitor isnt lavellan, or cadash or adaar or trevelyan
Your inquisitor is
The inquisitor.
Their identity before is removed from them, they are stripped of their autonomy (because look they ARE captive and they CANNOT refuse their position, not really)
And they are put into the position of an unwilling martyr
An icon of a religion they may or may not even be apart of
A symbol for things they might not believe
Because it doesnt matter if they believe
It doesnt matter who they are
Theyre a symbol
And the people believe
The inquisitors feelings dont matter to the narrative, nor the people
As long as they keep smiling and waving and doing their job

When i first met alistair in da:o i was actually kinda shocked that i like him?
Like theres something to be said about the way the fandom had me perceiving him (vanilla straight boy whos kinda awkward) vs the actual man in the game (menace??? Horrible, hilarious menace of a man??)
Like i understand why we like him now, i am smitten, BUT ALSO WHY DO I ONLY EVER SEE HIM PORTRAYED AS THE BORING VANILLA LOSER THATS SO MEAN
No one touch me i GENUINLY loved the UK performance
Someone kick me
Why am i having butterflies???
look at me. listen to me. bigots and queerphobes donât know the distinction between a trans person, a gnc cis gay person, and a cisgender heterosexual crossdresser. all of these people are just queer degenerates to them. that is why their anti-drag bills are written so vaguely as to encompass any possible mundane gender nonconformity - so they can target as many of us as possible in one ruling. and thatâs why you need to stop trying to put lines between these groups in regards to âwhoâs more oppressedâ and âwho has the right to talk about genderâ - gender nonconformity and transgenderism are punished in exactly the same way. cut one of us and the other bleeds. our fight is the same.
You know Fenris isn't always perfect but he IS one of the only dragon age characters who knows the word "sorry", which I think we don't give him enough credit for
