OK so I just need to point out something that I think should be said about Jane’s character, and why I think she’s already developed enough.

Jane being relegated to healing duty IS her culminating character development! That is how she was meant to be! Her character flaws have always been her crippling mistrust of what her friends is thinking and wants to do, so as the Maid of Life she needed to learn to how to completely let go of her personal desires and let her friends decide what is right, thus relegating her to support. HOWEVER she isn’t completely on healing department as well since she did helped Jake battle the felt, and even try to land a hit on the Condesce, though of course she ended up getting overpowered, there’s actually a pretty legit post regarding her character development on Collide that I would recommend, but I kinda lost the link... overall I did point out it’s main points, and yeah, I think Jane’s character was done well enough and I don’t see a reason to improve it.

That’s an excellent critique of why the end feels quite upsetting. Andrew is usually EXCELLENTLY judicious about following storytelling rules or only violating them with great skill and caution; that’s part of why this disappointing-feeling ending was so out of left field. Like we’ve covered, however, we can’t judge it in its entirety until we’ve seen the epilogue; Problem Sleuth pulled the exact same “thanks for playing” thing, yet managed to use its epilogue to resolve everything quite comprehensively.

Plus, I somewhat disagree with the imageset’s position on Vriska: People have pointed out how it’s implied that as a cost for achieving victory over Lord English this way, Vriska might be doomed to suffering destruction alongside the end of reality as the Green Sun singularity tears everything apart.

If so, it’s actually somewhat fitting: The incorrigible post-retcon version of Vriska chose this. Chose being the center of attention and the one to deal the final blow against the villain over…

…well, being happy. And achieving anything close to the Ultimate Reward that the kids did.

I don’t think we can really tell for sure until the epilogue, though.
