What’s with the hate for the idea of Ciri being the protagonist in The Witcher 4?
Even though she isn’t officially a witcher, she’s still been raised as one starting from the early age of 11. Ciri is more of a witcher than she is a princess, and she is proud of it.
Many antis claim that her powers are already too high, and she is too skilled to learn anything during her journey. Where do they get that from? Her powers are high, yes, given that she is a child of the elder blood. However, she’s still struggling to control them by the end of TW3, especially if she is in deep grief and mental agony. If it weren’t for Avallac'h, Ciri wouldn't have been able to escape The Rage she had entered uncontrollably, causing great harm and destruction.
The funny thing is that Geralt is one of the most skilled witchers, and yet, I heard no one complaining about the fact that he doesn’t need to learn anything. So...why is this a (wrong) point against Ciri, but when it comes to Geralt it is suddenly alright or not important at all? I heard voices among those antis wishing for Eskel or Lambert to be the protagonist. What do they have to learn when it comes to their powers? Character arcs, yes, especially when it comes to Lambert’s bitterness or Eskel’s insecurities. But, powers? Geralt is known to be one of the best witchers, but neither from the books nor TW3 I got any evidence that Lambert and Eskel aren’t similarly skilled.
I personally would find the idea of a strange witcher from a complete other school and another continent very interesting. But, tbh, I still would prefer to explore new parts of the witcher world with Ciri as the protagonist. Not only because she is a familiar and beloved character to me—it could also be a perfect chance to explore her powers in depth, so that she finally gains control over them. And then there is this other tiny, but IMO very important thing I like to point out: Ciri is Geralt’s foster daughter, so she is LITERALLY his legacy. I mean, how much more epic and meaningful could you want the next protagonist of this fantastic franchise to be?
