I used to dread coloring large swaths of artwork with pencil. Years ago, my initial approach attempted to create a clean, evenly blended shade, but now working over tea stain allows me to enhance these areas with various textures. Here, I'm continuing the background color with indigo blue pencil, plus tuscan red and deep purple. These warmer colors were used on the fox, and adding them to the background helps the work feel more cohesive.
