Trying to write some more pirate AU because I'm away from my drawing tablet and will be for a few days, and I think my favourite dumb plot point so far is the fact that Bill's ship is just... Too fucking heavy to properly function.
It caused them problems in the first chapter and it's gonna cause them problems in this chapter, but Bill is too much of a showoff to not have obnoxious amounts of gold literally everywhere and nobody else is brave enough to challenge him.
It's a strange question, but what would happen if part of Ford's story was what it looks like for Stan? If Ford had actually died? In theory, there shouldn't be any difference, right?
There probably wouldn't be any real difference for Stan, no. 🤔
I suppose his relationship with Fidds might be a bit less strained if there wasn't this big secret that Fiddleford needs to keep hidden though. Who knows, maybe he would have even suggested Stan start working with the government too since he's researching the unexplained?
Ooh! If anyone has the post reblogged or saved, I'd love to see it!
So cool someone else had the same idea! ^^

Slightly obscure (?) fairytale: King Lindworm
In a long ago kingdom, the queen gives birth to twin boys. The younger is perfectly normal in every way. The older is a Lindworm (serpentine dragon).
The main problem is what happens when the younger twin wants to go off and find a wife (or husband, that works too). The older brother has to get married first, but none of the princesses brought before him meets his criteria; mainly that none of them are willing to actually love him. After two have been killed, the king decides to find a more expendable candidate and chooses a peasant — who then succeeds in breaking the curse by showing up dressed in ten dresses on the wedding night and insisting for every dress she takes off the dragon sheds a skin which eventually strips him down to the human underneath.
It's a weird fairytale, but I kinda like it.
I'm going to say that in this au, the peasant is Fiddleford, Ford is the Lindworm, and Stan is the normal prince. The princesses don't die, but Ford does attack them when they reject him as a 'monster'. Ford has been locked up in the castle his whole life, and is unsociable and aggressive because of it. Stan is the only one able to be around him safely and calm him down when he's upset.
Hi! Stanticore anon. I really hope you're doing ok. I had an AU idea I wanted to share with you. I really hope you're ok. That Prince Lindworm story, but with the Stan twins. And also maybe less princess eating. I hope you're ok.
Thanks so much, friend! I’m doing better now, we’re currently trying to get a handle on my arrhythmia but I’ll be okay.
Man, it’s been awhile since I’ve thought about that story! Side note, I always thought that the Prince Lindworm should’ve been held accountable for the princesses he murdered, and when I was little I wanted to write a version where he gets put on trial (because transforming into a handsome prince does NOT absolve you of your crimes!).
I’m actually getting tons of inspiration for this AU now! I feel bad, because I’m changing the original story quite a bit...but I’ll try to keep enough elements so that it’s somewhat recognizable.
I think Filbrick should be the one to throw baby Stanleyworm out, because parallels, am I right? And Caryn and Filbrick agree to never mention him again. Years later, Prince Stanford goes out on a quest in search of strange and magical creatures because he’s always been fascinated by them. He comes across Stanleyworm, who at first is just being a bother and chasing away the other anomalies while Ford sketches him/asks him questions about his eating habits and such. But eventually Stan realizes who Ford is and he’s like, “Oh, screw you, you’re the one they kept” and blocks the way/makes Ford’s life difficult. Ford is like, “Wait, WHAT?! I have a brother? A twin brother? Who is also a lindworm?!” Goes home and demands an explanation.
Ford feels bad for Stanleyworm and decides that he’s going to help him become part of the family. At first, Stan thinks it’s just so Ford can get on with his “epic quest” or whatever. But he ends up realizing that Ford actually cares about him and wants to help. So he begrudgingly agrees.
First, they try the marriage route. Ford had always disappointed their parents with the fact that he was never interested in marrying a princess. If Stan can manage to marry a princess, maybe they’ll finally accept him as their son! Unfortunately, this doesn’t go well. Princess Beatrice leaves the date in a huff because Stan was (unintentionally) being a jerk. Things start to go well with Princess Carla, but she ends up ditching him for a unicorn. Princess Marilyn actually does marry him, but then she runs off with a bunch of treasure during the wedding feast. So marriage is a no-go.
At this point, Filbrick (Caryn actually thinks a lindworm son is pretty cool and loves him just as much as she loves Ford) makes it clear that Stanleyworm is not welcome in their kingdom and he should go back to wherever he came from. Stan almost destroys everything, but finally just leaves, shouting that he’s done fine so far on his own and he doesn’t need anyone.
Ford chases after him, Stan is no longer blocking the path, and he tells Ford to go on his stupid quest already and leave him alone. Ford refuses, saying that there must be some way for Stan to become part of the family. Stan’s like, “Well, as long as I’m looking like this, that’s never gonna happen. And if I ever see you again, I swear I’ll eat you.” That gives Ford an idea, and he goes off in search of the witch who originally helped Caryn conceive.
The witch gives the same gist as the original story, and Ford finds Stan and convinces him to try out the new plan. And just like the original story, POOF! Stan is human! Hooray!
They go back to the castle, but Stan decides that if Filbrick wouldn’t accept him as a son before, then he has no right to now. So after a tearful goodbye with their mother, Stan and Ford ditch the “prince” thing and head off on some epic anomaly-hunting adventures! They’re going to explore the entire face of the earth, right up to the parts unexplored and the “here there be monsters!”
“But Sixer, what’ll we do when we hit the edge?”
Ford pulls out blueprints for a sailing ship and smiles.
“We’ll keep going.”
Thanks for all the suggestions today! Not sure how many I'll get to, but I want to make a few more sketches tonight. ^^
