Your trip home from visiting your family hasn’t been the best, it seemed to take forever.

You’d missed your boys viscerally the last couple days, and when you’d called, Taehyung had seemed a bit…distracted. He’d asked about the baby, whined a little that your parents would be keeping her overnight, but then he’d gone quiet.

“Is everything okay?” You’d asked after a long silence.

“Hmm? Oh, sure, jagiya, everything’s fine, we just miss our girls.” His tone is low and almost lazy.

“I haven’t been able to reach Kookie, can you put him on the phone?”

Taehyung chuckles low in his throat.

“Ah, our Jungkookie is a bit tied up right now, but you’ll see him when you get home. We have a surprise for you.”

“A surprise?" 

"Mmm, you’ll like it, jagi. I promise.”

You frown when he hangs up, but you’ve learned in the last few months to expect lots of surprises from your two boyfriends. You hadn’t expected to end up with two boyfriends when you’d started dating Taehyung, but when you met Jungkook and hit it off, he was quick to suggest a polyamorous situation.

Things had gone rather smoothly with only a couple jealous flare-ups from Jungkook, and you loved how spontaneous and exciting your sex life could be with them. Then the unexpected had happened again, and you’d found yourself pregnant.

Taehyung had only shrugged when you told him you couldn’t be sure who the father was, hugged you tight. “It’ll be mine either way, just like you and Jungkook are.”

Your daughter was nearing three months old and between the new baby and figuring out a new living situation, you hadn’t been able to be with the two of them alone.

You’d been officially living with the two of them for just under two months, but it already felt more like home than your old apartment had.

You let yourself in with your key and leave your luggage at the door, kicking off your shoes. It seems almost eerily quiet in the apartment, usually there’s sounds of your boys playing video games or talking.

“Tae? Kook?” You call hesitantly.

“In the bedroom,” you hear Taehyung, still sounding lazy and distracted.

You walk towards the bedroom, peering inside, and your breath catches in your throat.

Maybe it should have been embarrassing.

Maybe it was, 5 years ago when the habit first started.

5 years ago, when you’d had your first pre-heat. When the world had quickly become too overwhelming, your nose unused to the myriad of scents that assaulted you in your sensitivity. Your skin feeling so raw that even the clothes on your back felt uncomfortable.

It was then, in your childhood bedroom, amidst everything else, you recognized a scent that accompanied you through your life for as long as you could remember. A scent that felt like home, felt like warm days under the sun and shared laughter under blankets at midnight.

Your nose had led you to the bottom drawer of your dresser, your hands digging through the mess of fabric there until you pulled out an orange hoodie. You didn’t remember ever having it, and it looked small enough to have been from years ago – maybe even from before he presented.

But as you pulled it out of that drawer, the scent that might have been faint to you any other day filled your nostrils. A blueberry and pine scent that left you feeling calmer instantly, safer. Whether that had to do more with your friendship or his alpha status wasn’t a thought that crossed your mind. All you knew at the time was that it made everything better – he made everything better, even when he wasn’t there.

That marked the first time you laid in your bed, curling yourself around that small piece of comfort, your face shoved into the soft fabric. The peace that washed over you then was addicting, and any thought of giving up that feeling was unfathomable.

And if Jimin noticed how you were covered in his own scent when he saw you after every heat since that day, he didn’t say a thing.

“A hybrid?” You barely hold back a cough, the sandwich you were eating getting caught in your throat at your co-workers surprising words.

“Don’t sound so surprised Y/N, this isn’t the first time we’ve talked about this,” Jihyo rolls her eyes, pushing her water bottle closer to you as she notices you struggling. You quickly take a sip, the cool water soothing your irritated throat.

“No, but it’s the first time we’ve ever talked about me and hybrids in the same sentence,” You shake your head as you lean back in your chair, Jihyo’s eyes narrowing as she looks at you. You advert your eyes to pick at your shirt. Somehow, Jihyo always knows how to make you do something you’re unsure of, and this is too serious to be one of those situations.

“But wouldn’t it be nice? You always complain about being lonely,” Jihyo says, a knowing smile on her face as she takes another bite of her own food.

“Yeah, but I meant a boyfriend, not a hybrid!” You sigh. You had been complaining a lot recently how sad it was to come home to a big empty apartment, and how nice it would be if the space were filled with someone else beside yourself. But a hybrid? You hardly know anything about them. And considering they’re part human and animal, you’re sure they will need a lot of attention, maybe even more than what you can give.

“Besides, I wouldn’t even know where to start. I don’t know anything about them,” You add, a frown on your face as you pick at the escaped fillings of your food. “That’s what the centers are for! You pick out a hybrid and get a manual to go along with it, it’s not that hard,” Jihyo huffs, a small pout on her lips as she finishes her food. You know she only has your best intentions in mind, but this is a big step. One you’re not sure you’re ready for.
