You shouldn’t feel those things for your best friend.

That night, that thought just wouldn’t leave your head. You kept thinking that, feeling guiltier and guiltier every time you’d find yourself admiring Jungkook’s rosy lips, thinking how good they would look on yours, or involuntarily holding your breath every time he was close to you, his scent intoxicating your brain.

He was your childhood best friend, with whom you had basically grown up. What the hell was wrong with you?

I shouldn’t feel these things for my best friend.

But somehow, as he was sitting on the couch biting his lip and zapping through the channels, you couldn’t help but wonder how it would feel to push him against a wall and-

“What are you thinking about?” Jungkook asked, destroying your train of thoughts.

“Uh?” you mumbled, managing to pull yourself together.

“I said ‘What are you thinking about?’,” he said, shutting down the TV, “You seem distant today, is everything okay?”

You bit your cheek, knowing full well that you couldn’t tell him what was really on your mind, and just smiled, “Everything’s fine, I’m just tired.” you said, wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket.

He raised an eyebrow and you knew that he didn’t believe you: he knew you too well to fall for that. So, you quickly tried to change the conversation, before he could investigate more and probably get the truth out of you: you had a crush on your best friend.

“You know,” you began saying, “Something super weird happened today.” “Like what?”

“You know our new substitute teacher? She asked me if we’re dating, again.” you exclaimed.

Jungkook chuckled and shook his head, clearly as exasperated as you. You two were used to it, in a way: everybody always thought you two were dating, and probably for a real reason. He loved teasing you and you loved teasing him, flirting with each other just to see who would have blushed first. You loved it, truly, but lately you had been blushing more and more easily, as only his smile would set butterflies in you.

“I think she might have a crush on you or something…” you commented.

“I know, I know,” he dramatically sighed, “But it’s not my fault if I’m so irresistible that every girl wants me.”

“Every girl wants you? Sure thing…”

“What? It’s true! You’re the only straight girl I know I haven’t fucked yet, and you must admit you have at least thought about it.”

“In your dreams maybe.” you exclaimed, rolling your eyes. You weren’t going to boost his ego even more by letting him know what had been on your mind lately: he was already enough of a brat to begin with.

“Come on, there is no shame in admitting that you couldn’t resist me if I weren’t your best friend.”

You raised an eyebrow at his response, “You think I wouldn’t resist you? Oh sweetie, keep dreaming on…”

“Would you bet on that?”

Rain falls from the darkened, evening sky, cascading onto the ground below. People run to and fro on their way home from work, attempting to cover themselves with umbrellas or, more unfortunately, with jackets or briefcases.

Yoongi curses; he happens to be one of the unfortunate ones, someone who was stuck with the late shift and is currently running to the bus stop with nothing more than a thin jacket covering his head. However, it does little to protect him from the onslaught of water, and, before he knows it, he’s soaked and his clothes are sticking uncomfortably to his skin. As he continues to run, he makes a mental note that he should really start checking the weather in the mornings.

Fortunately, it’s not too cold out, so he doesn’t have to worry about getting sick.

Unfortunately, he misses his bus.

step one: encountering; quick glances; a brief exchange of words.

Jeon Jungkook strolls into class with a light bounce in his step for a reason you have yet to acquire. You’re already seated at your usual place; he walks until he’s standing in front the table right behind yours. You hear the familiar sound of metal legs of the chair being dragged lightly across the floor. He plops his bag on the floor with an attention-grabbing ‘thud!’, and takes a seat.

Oh?

So, yeah, he’s officially the only person who’s lingering presence will manage to divert your attention from the teacher to other things in a jiffy. And now that his lingering presence is right behind you, you’re officially doomed.

Just great.

You sigh.

You met Jeon Jungkook in your freshman year of high school, approximately two years ago. Ever since that first class you had together, he made it a point to walk into class with his signature bunny-toothed smile everyday, and you’ve always wondered how on earth he manages to stay so bright and outspoken and outgoing all the time. He looks the same today – a smile plastered on his perfect angelic face while clad in ripped jeans, a plain tee and a button-up on top (with the buttons undone, of course).

But there is just one minor – okay, no, major – detail about him which never fails to strike you each time the thought occurs to you. You just can’t seem to process it; your brain literally goes: “Error 404. Unable to process information.”
