I'm in my sisyphus era but I'm pretty sure I'm almost out of it
I feel like so many people’s hate for tmagp so far could be have been remedied if the show was posted to a different podcast feed than the same tma feed. Because it makes it look like a direct sequel when it’s not.
Because so fucking many of the complaints I’ve seen seem to boil down to “it’s not the same style and show as tma >:(“
Which is true. The metaplot is more pronounced, the writing and dialogue feels different, and the statements are more focused on establishing the world than they are weekly horror.
But that’s also fine. That’s the point.
The entire time since tmagp was first announced, the pitch from Rusty Quill was “it’s different, its not just a sequel, it’s not just more tma”. And I’m confused on why people are upset because of that.
If I wanted to listen to tma again, I’d just fucking do that. But I don’t want more tma, because there’s only so many scary stories one man can write before they start to get stale. You can’t keep expecting Jonathan Sims to be the sole writer of constantly spectacular fiction. The world and the stories and the episodes were amazing while we were there, but we’re done, we had a satisfying ending, and I’m ready to move on. I’m glad that the show is different.
I don’t want this to seem like it’s a “they’re consuming this media wrong” kind of post, because that’s not it. People are consuming it right. People just don’t seem to want to consume this story. Which is fine, but you can step away at any time. You’re not missing any kind of massive change to tma canon, you don’t need to keep watching if you’re not enjoying it.
And I think that the fact it’s on the same feed is what’s making people feel like it needs to be the same show.
