Why does every retelling version of Achilles have mommy issues. Thetis is a great mom in the Iliad, she’s so supportive and hands him everything. They always make It seem like she emotionally neglects him and left him, which is kinda true but she visits every time he calls for her. Stop making her seem like the villain, she cared for Achilles greatly and comforted him always.

What Modern Audience thinks: Odysseus was so brave he put himself before a friend (usually Polites) to save him from the boar and got hurt!

What Homer wrote: Yes basically my beloved genius-idiot was a little dumpass who miscalculated the boar's speed and the boar got him!

one thing that annoys me in modern depictions of the hellenic gods is how often Hephaistos is represented as an old man. none of Zeus and/or Hera’s other children are usually represented as old by most modern artists, but he often is. or when he isn’t, he’s entirely able-bodied. are people aware that someone can be disabled without being old ? it’s annoying. the worst thing is art of him where he’s both old and able-bodied, what’s even the point there
