Cores

A Player's Core is the very center of their being. For however long it is healthy, the Player themself will live.

The Core is made out of three central parts, the Outershell, the Innershell, and finally, the Soul itself.

The Shells serve as protection for the Soul, as for when a Player is killed, their body will vanish into a cloud of particles and their core will be ever so briefly visible.

But once the particles of smoke vanish, the Core itself will vanish, teleporting back to the last place the Player had felt relaxed. There, during an minute to a day-long timespan, the Player will reform.

The Player, as just a Core, will be only faintly aware of its surroundings. Otherwise, they will be completely comatose and remember nothing while just a core.

If a Core is ever hurt enough for their Outer and Innershells to crack, and their Soul is splintered and yet not destroyed, the Player will become a Shade.

Shades are no longer Players. Left with only faint memories of their life and filled with hatred for whatever took their last body, Shades will do nothing but hunt down the shattered and splintered remains of their Soul, as that is the only way for a Shade to become whole once more.

In all of Player History, there has only been one Shade that was brought back to Playerhood. It is much better to kill their current, unsteady body, fully shatter their core, and put them to peace.
