In "The Deposition of Lovewrath" by Ocann, one observes the conviction of contemporaries that collapse was at once inevitable, incomprehensible, and an opportunity for aesthetic excess. The death of FitzBalferall, seen lower right, seen at the time as a tasteless attempt to upstage Lovewrath in the round of witnessed history, now is viewed as the gesture par excellance of the Tinnish tendency to ill-considered stylistic self-assertion. The penchant for Clarissians to script and then improvise crucial moments of historic significance baffled their foes in both war and commerce, who marveled and despaired at the staging of tragic defeats with vast and luxurious pomp presumably for the benefit of the mystified onlookers; the bemused figure of Chief Pampumpen in the lower right reveals the pleasure this gave Latitudiarians in art and culture more broadly.
