It was dark. You didn’t know where you were. Standing in a realm of the unknown, a sea of black glass, you felt your stomach twist.

Something was wrong.

Where were you? You were just on your way home from school- and now you’re here. Was this the Backrooms that you had heard about on the internet? ….No, that place was described as at least dimly lit. This was different. This felt like vantablack. This felt like a cold, empty canyon of nothing but thick, silent air. This felt like suffocation given material form.

Crack!

You gave a start as the ground lurched. Oh, God, what was happening? Your footing stuttered, and you stumbled back. The floor beneath you was cracking like ice, and you felt your heartbeat quicken. What was underneath? Land? Water? A void?

What was going to happen to you?

With one final, resounding crack, you were falling, falling, falling, wind whistling past your ears in a shrill scream. Your breath was stolen from your lungs as your scrabbled at empty air for something, anything to hold on to, anything to help you survive this nightmare. And yet, despite the overwhelming fight or flight reaction coursing through your veins like electricity, you felt an odd drowsiness seep into your bones.

God, you were tired.

You could no longer tell if you were seeing the darkness around you or if you were beginning to simply pass out. Then again, you didn’t have time to contemplate it as you eyes slid shut, unable to fight any longer, too tired to keep going….

And so the darkness consumed you.
