NO BECAUSE. just. everything about that scene makes me crumble. it's adam's strained, pained voice, barely able to utter that sentence. it's his defensive stance despite thatcher showing no intention to actually harm him. it's how adam affirming that he's not afraid of thatcher just SHOWS how fucking scared he is in that situation, opting to deflect that and dismiss it as a coping mechanism. and he's so afraid despite being arguably the danger in this situation, an alternate, because he has no idea what's truly going on. and in turn it's thatcher reassuring this scared boy that he doesn't want adam to feel that way. he wants him to feel finally safe and in control. it's how he refers to him as a "kid" to put him more at ease and to show him actual humanity and regard as a person, not a monster. it's how patient thatcher is with him. this is peak cinema
