You can leave me, move on, tell your friends that we're done but please don't regret when I was your only one. The most horrid words which would cause my heart to break would be if you looked at our past and said it was all a mistake.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
Just finished reading this book and needless to say, compared to the rather positive outcome I had for the book it still exceeded my expectations. I had read wonderful reviews about the book but from my own person experience with it it was far more than I had imagined. I mean really? How great can a book be about an autistic child investigating the death of the neighbourhood dog? EXACTLY! Everything about that sentence makes the bland, generic genre of mystery so much more intriguing. The protagonist, an idiot savant struck with autism has to face his adversities to go far beyond his comfort zone in order to accomplish the one goal in his mind. Going deep into the cognitive functions of this character makes him as well as the overall tale engaging as you're taken through every twist and turn of his thought process along his journey. Very good read indeed. Â
What if
The difference between those who live and those who exist is that the former takes the chances while the latter declines only to ask "what if" later on. When in retrospect the hardest things to face are not the failures and the mistakes because those undoubtedly hold a purpose no matter how painful. They've taught us about ourselves and allowed us to grow. The hardest thing to face is looking back on a forgone opportunity and thinking "what if?" What if I went to that tryout? What if I sang at that recital? What if I told him/her I love them? There is no lesson when looking back on the what if's because those forsaken chances never turn into a what is. They tell us nothing about our work ethic, our determination or our bravery. It just perpetuates the notion that we are too afraid to live and are just getting by as a mere existence. The possible outcome whether good or bad has just been forgotten as we fear rejection and humiliation and for what? To save face? To keep the dignity or happiness we still have?
When opportunities arise it is so important to take it no matter how far out of our comfort zone we have to go. Time moves forward and we have to move along with it so when you reach the end of your time you shouldn't be asking what if I had taken that opportunity but look at the present and what is because you took that opportunity.
On life's journey all you need to take with you are the experiences of yesterday and the lessons you can learn today which will make you strong enough to take that further step into tomorrow.
