Aika 🥵🙏

Martyrdom Of Peter The Apostle

Martyrdom of Peter the Apostle

I enjoyed drawing Aika so much 😭💕💕 peep the mark of Sephira on her palm👀And also some lore🙈

The upside-down cross is often used to symbolize devils, which may be true in Aika’s case, but her master hung it upside down from her shoulder to remind her that Saint Peter requested to be hung upside down as a show of humility. He wouldn’t dare be crucified the same way his lord was. It reminds her that she must stay humble no matter how high of a peak she stands on. Because the higher the peak, the closer you are to falling.

~ chapter three

<<previous chapter▫️next chapter>>

pairing: julius novachrono x male!oc

warnings: none

word count: 2648 words

summary: Hector attends a ball, where he makes his intentions clear for Julius and learns something ominous at the end of the night.

A ball.

Usually, Hector dreaded going to these kinds of events held by the Clover King. However, this time he had a goal in mind, so there was no way he could skip out on this one.

"Are you going dressed like that?"

Hector turned to face his younger brother, a smile curling his lips. "Too little?"

"More like too much," Albert squinted at him, already dressed in preparation for the ball ahead. "You'll be grabbing a lot of attention like that."

He chuckled and straightened his collar, looking over his outfit once more in his mirror. The way he was dressed...it reminded him of a time when everything was much simpler.

When he turned, he hid the pain in his eyes with a wide grin. "It's meant to grab attention. I need people answering my questions tonight."

There was a flicker of displeasure in his brother's eyes. "You have to be careful, anija. I hope you don't forget that."

Hector softened at the concern in Albert's stern tone. At seventeen years old, he was very mature for his age and was even capable to handling the affairs of House Corvus while Hector was away.

"I will." Hector nodded, patting him on the head briefly as he walked out the room. Truthfully, there had been a lot to think about ever since the bandit attack a week ago.

"Is it too late to cut your hair?" Albert spoke up behind him, just barely managing to avoid stepping on his brother's black cape.

"Hm?" Hector reached up and ran a hand through his hair, feeling its black, wavy strands flop back over on his forehead. "I like it, though."

"Mm. Do as you wish."

They boarded the carriage and soon departed for the Clover King's residence. There was a brief moment of comfortable silence between the two brothers.

Hector cursed quietly. "I forgot to feed the ravens."

Albert rolled his eyes exasperatedly. "I thought I reminded you to do so. You know the servants aren't comfortable enough to do it."

"Oh god," Hector muttered into his hands, knowing he had unleased the wrath of at least twenty ravens on his being. "I should go back home-"

Albert was quick to shoot down his idea. "No. We're already late as it is."

"The Clover King can wait." He grumbled.

"But Captain Julius can't." It was supposed to be a pointed comment, but the mention of the blonde's name made Hector perk up.

"Wait. Did you speak to the jeweller?"

"Yes. I remember things, not like you," He ignored the obvious jab, listening to him with wide, excited eyes. Albert sighed and continued, "He said they'll be ready in six months' time."

"Six months," Hector breathed, feeling unbelievably giddy. "That's half a year."

That was how long he needed to wait until the day when Julius wore the black and red of House Corvus. The image was enough to make him go red in the cheeks from excitement.

It just made him realise how lucky he was to be alive. To be given a second chance. He had been calling his every breathing moment that after knowing that when he was born, his heart had been still for a full minute. When the doctors were ready to pronounce him dead back then, he had jolted into a wail loud enough to deafen the occupants of the entire building.

Had it been for the coming moment? To be bound to someone he had wanted for so long? It must be, because when that time came, there would be nobody in Clover Kingdom happier than him.

It must have been fate, ten years ago, Hector thought to himself, humming softly with a smile. If it had been anyone else with me on that mission, who knows what would have happened.

The carriage soon arrived and the pair walked into the hall side-by-side, their arrival drawing the attention of all the nobles present.

House Corvus. The noble family that contributed the most to the Magic Knight Squads in terms of funding. They had a very high standing amongst society, so how could they be ignored?

Hector went for a brief chat with the Clover King, noting with childish glee that the king was sulking now that he had grabbed all the attention. If he didn't have a big presence before as the Vice Captain of the Grey Deer and the Lord of Ravens, he definitely did now.

He got to work, silently apologising to Julius who should be around as a noble too. Until he had gathered information, Julius would have to wait just a little longer.

After talking to all the nobles in his list, he found that his cheeks were beginning to turn sore from all the fake-smiling. Quickly, he went to one secluded corner beside the window, hidden by a huge, bundled up red curtain.

He swatted aside the golden tassel on the curtain absentmindedly as he sipped at his drink. For now, nobody seemed too suspicious, though all of them had a strong opinion on the bandit attack.

"If anything, those peasants deserve it."

The bold comment made by one noble echoed in his head. He put down the glass on the windowsill with more force than necessary. Everyone definitely spoke ill of House Corvus behind his back, most likely picking on the way he managed towns under his lordship. While other nobles ran their towns in a way that guaranteed a constant flow of money into their own pockets, House Corvus headed theirs with basic competency and more.

Well, he wasn't the one actually managing all their towns, since it was Albert who did all those, yet his point still stood. It was infuriating. It made the blood under his skin simmer.

"Hector."

The familiar, welcoming voice jolted him out of his daydream. Now that he had drawn Hector's attention, Julius smiled and stepped closer so that he was right by the window too.

"Julius-kun," Hector smiled in greeting. He gave his captain a once-over and said in a raspier tone, "You look good."

"Do I?" Julius feigned a look of innocence.

Tease. Hector took a quick sip of his drink, gaze lingering a little at the sash hugging Julius' waist.

A sharper smile. "Did you wait long?"

"A little," Julius admitted with a sheepish tilt of his head, resting his forearm on the windowsill. His gaze was drawn to the gardens outside the window. "I haven't seen you in a week."

"That's true," He noticed the tone of faraway tone in Julius' voice and continued, "I'm sorry. I had a lot to think about. And I'll share it with you, in time."

One day. Right now, it was too dangerous since he didn't know who was pulling the strings. Even though Julius could take care of himself, he wouldn't risk placing him in danger, now matter how low the chances were.

Julius hummed and looked back at him, the corner of his lips quirking upward in a smile. "You said you wanted to show me something."

"In time." Hector replied with a mischevious grin.

A small pout formed on his face. "You can't keep me waiting, Hector."

It was an adorable sight to see. It also sent a different kind of fire rushing through his veins. Not to mention, the space between them, or lack thereof, was gradually shifting the tone of the atmosphere.

Hector chuckled breathily, voice dipping low. "You'll wait whether you like it or not, Julius-kun."

"Then what can we do now?"

"I can think of a few things." Hector said in a casual enough tone, his hand reaching out to curl around Julius' neck. The slight pressure he applied drew Julius closer to him, the pair hidden from sight by the curtains.

He could feel the skin beneath his palm become warmer as a blush spread across Julius' face and neck. The hand on his neck began to drift downward, finding a place easily on the small of his back, almost trapping him there.

Julius' gaze darted to the floor. He murmured, "Hector..."

Hector watched his reaction as intently as the ravens he raised, only remembering to speak a heartbeat after.

"Yes?"

He moved his hand so that it lifted the fabric of Julius' cape and rested comfortably on his waist, rubbing small circles into the sash there. He didn't miss the small puff of breath that escaped Julius' lips.

"People will see." Julius murmured, still refusing to look at him.

"Let them," Hector replied lightly, focused on carressing the area beneath his palm. "They should all know by now who I actually want."

Julius' gaze flickered upward, finally meeting his, while his mouth curled into a teasing smile.

"Do I know this person?" Julius asked in a low tone.

"Hm. Take a guess."

He tugged slightly on the sash, eliciting a gasp from the other man. The sound only served to feed him more fire. There were all sorts of thoughts running through his head: turning Julius into a crying, begging mess, painting those pink lips white, littering a few bruises here and there to let others know who exactly he belonged to.

It was a tempting fantasy within his reach, judging by how pliant Julius felt under his fingertips. He could make it into a reality just by dragging the blonde back to the Corvus Estate without a word.

Maybe I could steal a kiss now, Hector thought idly, eyeing those lips. They'll look good swollen.

"My, my, if it isn't Hector Corvus!"

He visibly took in a deep breath to swallow his frustration, facing the person with a forced smile on his face.

Elaine beamed back at him, wearing a coy look behind her fan. "I hope I'm not interrupting~"

"You very much were." Hector growled with a deceptively pleasant smile, keeping his hand at Julius' waist just to prove a point.

The captain didn't make a move to remove it, though his cheeks remained a bright shade of red.

"Ah, Captain Julius, it's an honour to meet you at last." She greeted him cheerfully, ignoring Hector's dark glare.

Julius, being ever polite, returned the greeting with a confused smile. "It's an honour to meet you too, uh, lady..."

"Elaine of House Westwood," She introduced herself, brushing a stray curl out of her eyes. In a teasing tone, "You don't keep tabs on the nobles, do you?"

With a sheepish grin, Julius shook his head no. Since their moment was so rudely interrupted, Hector straightened and his hand fell away.

"What are you doing here?" Hector asked warily, trading in his anger for caution in the meantime.

"Oh? I came to see my most favourite person in the world. Honey, you look like a king in those clothes." She battered her lashes flirtatiously over the crown of her fan.

"Honey?" Julius repeated, dumbfounded.

"This is my ex," Hector explained in exasperation, pinching the bridge of his nose. "We broke up five years ago."

"I wouldn't say broke up," She purred, "More like stopped having-"

"Enough," He cut in, his patience wearing thin. "I asked you a question, Elaine."

"Stop being so defensive," She waved her fan at him, still wearing her teasing smile. "I just wanted to catch up."

"Brother, there you are," Another familiar figure approached them, his brows pinched together a little. "Where have you been? I've been looking all over for you. It's getting late and unless you want the ravens to peck you to death we should head home now."

"Albert!" Julius greeted, sounding surprised.

Albert blinked as though he had just noticed Hector's company. "Captain Julius. We haven't caught up in a while."

"No, we haven't, it seems."

"I should head home," Hector muttered, recognising the moment when his irritation could blow. "Julius-kun, I'll see you back at headquarters."

"Okay. Take care." And despite the unwanted interruption, Julius still smiled so brightly. It made his heart ache.

When he made his way through the crowd, trailing behind his younger brother, Elaine suddenly looped her arm with his.

Feeling guilty that he had snapped at her earlier, he asked in a softer tone, "What is it?"

With a fan covering her mouth and her eyes curved in a smile, she muttered, "I heard you were doing some investigations."

Hector started a little. "Albert told you?"

"He said that I could be useful," She winked out of the corner of her eye. "I'll let you know if I find anything."

As always, Albert's judgement was better than his. Elaine had connections in the underground. If anyone could know what was going on, it was her.

"Alright. I'm counting on you," He paused for a while and added in quiet regret, "I'm sorry."

"It's fine," She brought her fan down on his forearm lightly with a gentle smile. "I know how much you love him. I should have given you both more time, but people were starting to notice you were nowhere in sight."

"I see," He murmured. That knowledge only added to his guilt. Defeated, he sighed, "Thanks, Elaine."

She grinned, "No problem, loverboy."

With that, they parted ways in front of the king's residence. Hector stared after her for a while, too lost in thought to realise the new figure approaching him.

"Lord Corvus."

It was a sickly sweet voice of a noble he knew all too well. He schooled his expression into something more neutral and turned to face the young man.

"Lord Adder."

Theodore Adder's gaze was chilling even behind his white bangs. The worst scumbag of them all, Hector thought idly to himself, his hand twitching instinctively for his grimoire. He was younger by Hector by about few years yet he held so much malice in his being for just one person. A man not to be trusted or heeded.

He gave a smile that was faker than counterfeit. "I haven't seen you in a while, Lord Corvus. How is everything going?"

"Perfectly fine." Hector answered nonchalantly, not bothering to put on a smile.

"I heard you were on-scene for the burning of Aurelia Town," Adder shook his head and let out a sigh. Hector clenched his fist, his gaze growing dark. "Such a shame. So many innocents harmed by a group of bandits."

That was the one thing he despised the most about Adder. The other nobles openly expressed their dislike for the commoners. But Adder hid his behind a wall of fake smiles and a polite demeanour, making him more dangerous than the rest.

"A group of bandits won't be moved by anything except money," Hector told him in a low voice, fixing him with a burning gaze. "A lot of money."

Adder met his gaze with a neon blue one, his smile still pleasant.

"Oh? Is that so?"

Then, the hand that was previously hidden in the cape emerged. Hector tensed immediately, only to blink in surprise at the yellow envelope being presented to him.

He looked at it warily, before flicking his gaze upward. "What's this?"

Adder smiled. "Answers."

A heartbeat of heavy silence passed between them. It felt like he was faced with an offer from the devil himself.

"Brother," Came Albert's voice from their carriage nearby. His younger brother's gaze was fixated coldly on Adder. "We're late."

"Ah, I apologise for holding him up, Lord Albert," There was finally a flicker of unpleasantness in his blue eyes upon seeing Albert watching his every move. He all but shoved the envelope into Hector's hand. In an omnious tone, "I'll see you soon, House Corvus."

And while the difficult conversation had ended, Hector realised that something else had begun entirely.

"What did he give you?"

"I don't know."

A heavy, heavy burden was weighing his shoulders down. There was a storm brewing, and he had no idea how to stop it.

Notes: I was thinking of this fic in another fandom where one of the characters makes drinks in her bar that are not your average everyday drinks. They are drinks that taste like concepts, like feelings or memories and I just thought of using Julius’s bartending skills to make magic in a glass and make one for the reader and it got real angsty but enjoy😎💕
