Writing About Hazbin And My Laptop Is Trying To Correct "Vaggie" To "Veggie" Which Is Really Fucking
writing about Hazbin and my laptop is trying to correct "Vaggie" to "Veggie" which is really fucking funny and also now i'm imagining Angel Dust making fun of her (and pissing her off) with Veggietales comments
(i know it makes no sense, shh, its just where my brain went)

Angel Dust is up next!
his new VA is Blake Roman! we got even less in the way of lines for him in the announcement video, we only got to hear him speak 2 or 3 lines during it. I actually couldn't find a Wikipedia page for him, it looks like he hasn't been involved in a ton of projects, but he had a very small side role in Helluva Boss as an unnamed imp
this one is going to be formatted slightly differently than the last two, because the format I had been using was VA info, logical thoughts, then emotional thoughts, but… Angel is a little different. he's been one of my biggest comfort characters for a while, so I don't think I can separate my emotions on this VA from the logical POV
that being said: I already know I'm going to struggle with the change, a lot. this isn't to say anything negative about the new VA, I actually do really like his sound, however, his voice is very noticeably different than the pilot VA. over the however-long-i've-been-interested-in-hazbin, I've probably interacted with more Angel Dust-centric content than any other character besides maybe Alastor, so his voice (from the pilot) is incredibly ingrained in my brain, and solidified as his voice. that fact combined with my autism difficulties with familiar things changing I think is going to mean that I'm going to struggle with adjusting to the voice change, regardless of who the voice turned out to be
THAT BEING SAID (x2): I think that Blake has a lot of potential as Angel's VA! since we only heard him speaking in the announcement, I found a video of him singing. of course, there's several things that make it difficult to judge this video as a gauge of his ability for specifically Angel Dust. mostly, the fact that our favourite spider demon has a comedically strong Brooklyn accent (i think, anyway). since to my knowledge, his VA is not from Brooklyn, and certainly doesn’t have that accent, it isn’t something we can hear in the video, and that means that his singing in the show may sound incredibly different to how it does here
really, though; i think that Blake has the potential to do a really really good job. i don’t dislike his voice for Angel in the absolute slightest, he does the accent and inflection well and i think the general sound of his voice is really nice for the character. my entire hangup with the change lands on, well, the fact that there’s a change at all. as mentioned, i’m REALLY attached to the character, so for a while, i think that the change will be.. jarring, at best. at worst? i don’t know, if i really can’t get used to the voice change, i don’t know if i’ll be able to actually watch the show. i don’t actually think that’s gonna happen at all though, i can see myself getting used to Blake’s voice for Angel for sure, it’ll just take some time! i think he's going to be able to add, again, a lot of really nice character and depth to the Angel we already know and love!
(this is the longest one so far, which makes sense. i KNEW i had a lot of thoughts about this guy. going in, my predictions were that the longest ones were gonna be Angel, Alastor, and Valentino, i’m posting these as i finish writing them so we’re gonna see if that holds up, cause our Radio Demon is next on the list!)
new hazbin hotel VA analysis and thoughts
okay so, for anyone who didn't already know, Prime Video released this video earlier today (Dec 15), announcing the official new cast list for the Hazbin Hotel voice actors
i, in all of my neurodivergent hyperfixation glory (or whatever), have some THOUGHTS on this, so i’m making a series of posts analysing/talking through all of my thoughts and emotions about the new VAs! gonna try and keep everything either positive or neutral, i’m not gonna be, like, an outright dick to any of the casting choices because honestly i think they’re all very good in their own right!
anyway, yeah, this one is the first one! going below a cut because even though most of them aren’t that long on their own, it’s gonna get REALLY long once all of them are added in the reblogs (going to add characters to the tags on this OP of the post as they're posted cause reblog tags don't do shit, wordcounts after this one will be in the respective reblogs' tags so they're visible and comprehensible)
the characters i’m planning on doing, ones that are posted already will be linked from the word!:
Charlie (this one!), Vaggie, Angel Dust, Alastor, Sir Pentious, Husk, Niffty, Vox, and Valentino (if/when it's released, i'd also like to do one of these for Cherri Bomb! i haven't seen any talk of her VA so far though gdfjhk)
word count for the FIRST analysis after the cut: 337
so! the first of many! to start with, Charlie’s new VA is Erika Henningsen! we got to hear quite a lot of her singing voice in the announcement video, as it was, well, a music video, but what about her speaking voice? linked here is a video of her speaking, to use as reference next to the announcement video itself! of course, she may speak differently for the actual role, many VAs do that (many also don’t!), so she may sound slightly different in the show!
main thoughts: i really like this choice for Charlie. i thought her original VAs (singing and speaking) from the pilot were brilliant, but both the “OGs” and Erika fit the character really well. i think she sort of sounds hopeful in a disney princess way, which i’ve seen a lot of people saying in a negative manner but i think in this context it’s a good thing! it adds a sort of upbeat element that makes her stand out from the other characters we’ve seen, which i think ties in really nicely with her character and personality
i will say, in the pilot, i was never particularly attached to Charlie as a character. i of course do love her, i love almost all the characters, but she was never one that stood out to me nearly as much as, say, Alastor. that being said, i never formed a notably strong importance to her voice in my brain, compared to some of the others from the show, so while her voice is noticeably different, for me personally i don’t expect it to be nearly as jarring as it will probably be for some of the others
i’m really excited to see where Erika takes this role, though, she seems like she has the ability to voice Charlie really well, and especially as the main character (or, one of them), i think her voice is gonna be able to be a strong foundation to go off of with taking the character even further
onwards to the Radio Demon! (Alastor)
i already know this one is gonna get long, Alastor’s was the longest section i wrote in the original thought dump, besides i think maybe Valentino, so we’re gonna have fun
so, Alastor’s new VA is Amir Talai! i once again couldn’t find a Wikipedia page like i did for the first two, but i linked his IMDB page! Alastor is the first character i’m covering that didn’t have any spoken lines in the announcement video, which means we don’t really have a good grasp whatsoever on solidly how he’s going to sound in the show, but i found a REALLY helpful video
this is a video of the new VA singing You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, from Annie (if you didn’t know, this is canonically Alastor’s favourite song)! i’m only going to link this video, because it has bits of both speaking and singing, so i think it covers both bases pretty well
okay, so, thoughts: my first thing is that i’m not sure if he was doing a “character voice” in the video i found, because he was, well, playing a character in a performance, and a lot of actors (especially voice actors) will have different voices they put on for different characters. that combined with the effect on his voice from the microphone in the video means that he could sound somewhat different as Alastor, although i’m not sure how much of an impact the effect in the video will change, because assuming they keep it the same, Alastor has a very similar effect on his voice. since i can’t tell for sure if Amir is doing a specialized voice for the character in the video, i’m going to go off of the assumption that he’s going to sound the same or very similar in the show
my opinion on this one is… complicated, but i think it turns out positive. singing-wise, i think that Amir is a really good fit! his voice is definitely different than what i think we knew for Alastor from the pilot, but that makes sense when we get a new VA for a character. the patterns and.. pacing, i think is the right word? yeah, the pacing of his speech in character feels SO correct for Alastor, same with the speech patterns and inflection (i think i’m using the right words here). my main.. not concern, but the thing that i think is throwing me off is where Amir speaks, in comparison with where i feel like Alastor generally would speak, at least in my mind? i guess a good way to describe it is where his voice sits, it feels like he speaks a bit higher up and almost more nasally than i personally feel fits Alastor the best. now, that isn’t to say that he’s not a good fit for Alastor overall! i think it’s just a matter of another thing to get used to. i also know that, personally, my opinions on VAs have historically drastically changed when i see them actually doing the character, because sometimes it can be really hard to imagine a voice with a character (especially a character you’ve heard with a different voice) until you see that voice coming out of the character’s face
something also worth noting is, for me, Alastor is held in a very similar regard to Angel Dust. i know that this is a character that i have an incredibly strong attachment to and love for, so it makes sense that i’m going to have a much harder time adjusting to his voice being different than, say, Vaggie or Charlie, simply because of how much time i’ve spent thinking about him content i’ve watched about him. i know that it’s going to be difficult for me to get used to him sounding different, but when i put aside my previous attachment as much as i can, i do think Amir is going to be able to do a really good job with him!
overall, yeah, i think that Amir can take Alastor to a really good place, voice-wise! as i mentioned (repeatedly), it’ll be an adjustment, but it’ll turn out well! my hesitance is much the same to my hesitance with Angel Dust/Blake Roman, just due to the fact that there is at all a change. i can see Amir’s voice becoming absolutely solidified for Alastor, though, especially singing! i’m excited to see what they do with musical numbers, because it seems like Amir has the ability to do some funky (/pos) stuff with vocal capabilities!
(yeah, i was right, this one got long. the longest individual one so far! and.. good gods this thing is getting long. i knew it would get long, i didn't expect it to get this long, there's still 5 more characters to do, we're only 4 characters in)
(also, i fucked up when i was starting the reblogs, so go back to the first post in the chain to get the links to the others!!)

next up, Vaggie!
Vaggie’s new VA is Stephanie Beatriz! you, uh, probably know her, even if you don’t know the name! she voiced Mirabel in Encanto (Vivziepop yet again having this wild ability to get some really good names on these projects)
once again, we got to hear a little of her speaking voice in the announcement video, but not nearly as much as we heard of Charlie’s, so I found this video of her speaking out of character! i didn’t grab a video of her singing specifically, because really you can just listen to most of the songs from Encanto to get an idea of her voice
i’m.. i’m gonna be honest, it’s been a bit since i’ve watched the pilot as it is, so i honestly couldn’t tell for sure at first if she had a different VA (she does). i like this voice a lot for Vaggie, i think that the tone and pacing, the sound of the voice, really everything we heard of her in the announcement video, all fit really really well with what we’ve seen and what i, at least, expect from this character. i don’t know if she’s going to change anything with the way she sings for Vaggie, but based on the recordings from her time as Mirabel, i think the same could hold true! it’s a bit hard to tell based off of the songs from Encanto, because Mirabel and Vaggie are such vastly different characters that emotions alone are probably going to make them sound incredibly different. from what i could hear, though, i think that Stephanie is going to be a really good fit for Vaggie
now, for my emotions: as i mentioned, i couldn’t quite tell there was a difference on first appearance. this means that i don’t see myself having any trouble with the change aspect of it like i worried about with other characters (a good thing)! similarly to Charlie, Vaggie isn’t a character who, as of the pilot, has held a significant amount of importance to me compared to the others, so i haven’t had a particularly strong attachment to her voice being a certain way. i again see this as a very neutral change, while her original VA in the pilot was incredible, it sounds like this VA is also going to be incredible, or at least has a lot of potential, so i’m hopeful to see where she takes the character!
(when i wrote my original, word-dump barely-coherent versions of this, Vaggie was the character i wrote the least for. i.. did not expect to write this much this easily for her lmao)

me, sometimes: i wish i could make actual tangible fandom content i do not really draw much and i also can't find the energy to write fics so i don't contribute much besides ramblings- the ramblings: 2000 words and counting of analysis and thoughts about the new Hazbin VAs
THAT'S PRETTY DAMN TANGIBLE, ME
(also i am so sorry for posting so much about this project it is the only thing occupying my brain right now)
