Anyway adults saying “I don’t know isn’t an answer” is part of the reason I learned to lie and bluff so well.

I Figure Out I Had ADHD Last Year, But I Didnt Seek An Official Diagnosis And Medication Until This Year.

I figure out I had ADHD last year, but I didn’t seek an official diagnosis and medication until this year. I’m 30 years old, my school days are long behind me. I slipped through the cracks because I have predominately inattentive type and I was a quiet little girl. Having ADHD does not mean you have to be hyperactive and loud, it means you have a processing problem in your brain that doesn’t allow you to regulate your focus or emotions.

Mental health even now is still taboo to talk about. People are more open now than ever about it however and that gives me hope.

This is a profoundly personal comic and it only reflects my own experience with ADHD. It is on a spectrum with a wide range of personalities. But if my story connects with someone else and helps them, that would mean the world to me.

The neurodivergent experience is talking about your brain as if it's a separate entity from your self

Can someone explain to me why ADHD is seen as “fake” meanwhile Autism isn’t? Can someone explain to me why Autism is demonized meanwhile ADHD isn’t? Why are two mental illnesses that share a large amount of similarities perceived as such two different things by people? People refuse to get their children vaccinated, despite knowing the risk that their child could die if they aren’t vaccinated, out of the idoitic fear it will make their children autistic, which is a lie. People know Autism exists, no one tries to deny it, but they do demonize and degrade autistic people constantly. People refuse to believe ADHD exists and will flat out deny it, but people who do believe in it will say it’s funny or quirky and minimize how difficult it is to have ADHD along with completely disregarding that it’s more than not being able to concentrate or sit still. ADHD and Autism are commonly misdiagnosed for one another because they share so much in common, but both are just as serious and difficult. Both have a lot of terrible comorbid disorders that make life far more difficult than it already is. The only thing people consistently do with both ADHD and ASD are make them the butt of jokes. I’ve never seen proper representation of either on tv. The Good Doctor’s representation of Autism is terrible and inaccurate from what I’ve heard from Autistic people, and that is some of the most well known representation they have on tv. But I can’t even name a character I’ve seen on tv that has ADHD, the only representation of ADHD I’ve seen on tv is people abusing ADHD medication which is disgusting.

I can’t describe how much it upsets me to see how people not only perceive ASD and ADHD, but how people treat those who are/have it, and the lack of proper representation in media. ADHD is either “quirky” or “fake”, and Autism is “terrible” but real. Why can’t people just accept that both ADHD and Autism exist, and they are both serious and deserving of proper representation and nothing about them is fun or worth risking your child’s life over?

(If there’s anything I’ve gotten incorrectly about Autism, please correct me, I have ADHD so this is how I view things from my perspective on ADHD and how my autistic friends have spoken to me about their perspective on Autism. So if there’s anything that I should add or change, please let me know!)

a lot of small fandoms or lesser known characters and ships would literally be nowhere without people without neurodivergent people. like have you seen those tags that are basically kept alive by like four people with adhd and/or autism and the sheer unstoppable force of hyperfixation? it’s beautiful <3

Was just informed by my mom that I do in fact have ADHD and the reason I thought I didn’t was because ever since I was seven whenever I got super energetic my mom would have me go chop wood so now when I’m feeling The ADHD I go chop wood and I thought it was just some sort of routine I started when I was little and wanted to blow off steam

ah yes, the rare and elusive ADHD mood of "I have five different things that I want to do that I've been thinking about doing all day but I can't do them all at once so instead of just picking one I'm going to do none of them and just sit and sulk about how I'm not doing any of the things I want to be doing right now"

I discovered the ADHD haver’s best friend:

a mac app called helium that puts Netflix in a tiny floating window on your screen that you can make translucent and also click through, so you can watch tv and surf the web at the same time, it’s great
