“Come in” Maxwell huffs, tearing his eyes away from his paperwork.

“I, uh, brought you a coffee sir” Barbara Ann stammers as she walks in the door.

She places the cup down on the oak desk with a shaky hand and Maxwell sighs, noting her nerves.

“You have been working here for two weeks, how are you still nervous?” he huffs, picking up the cup of coffee.

He takes a sip and spits it back out into the cup, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand as he glares up at Barbara.

“Learn how to make a fucking espresso” he hisses.

“Ye-yes sir” Barbara frantically nods, taking the cup from him and accidentally spilling some of the brew on his desk.

“For fucks sake” Maxwell leans back, avoiding the splash before he shakes his head at Barbara.

“I’ll clean it up” she promises and Maxwell sighs, wondering why his mother would hire such a useless assistant. 

Barbara Ann rushes out of the room before coming back with the napkins she hoards in her desk, wiping the liquid up with anxiety-riddled swipes.

“Did you get what I asked for?” Maxwell looks up at her expectantly.

“Yes sir” she nods, “I did”

“Good, can you take it to her now?” he glances up at the clock on the wall.

“Yes Mr. Lord” Barbara licks her lips, looking at her boss.

“Well off you go” he gestures towards the door and she nods once more, gathering the sopping wet napkins up in her hand before scurrying out of the office.

“Miss Y/L/N, Mr. Lord’s assistant would like to see you” your assistant knocks on the open door and you nod, “thank you. Please send her in”
