Steve always felt like an outsider.

He knew from a young age he was different from the other kids. The other kids in his class giggled about kisses and cooties, Steve had no desire for these things. The other boys in his class didn't look at the other girls and want to wear their pretty dresses. The other kids didnt sneak into their mom's bathroom and put on lipstick.

The other kids weren't different.

As Steve grew up he felt even more different. Tommy had a girlfriend now, Steve got one because Tommy said he was a queer otherwise, Steve's dad taught him he didn't want to be one of those.

Steve felt nothing when he was kissed, the girls were nice but the only thing he liked was the lipstick they'd leave behind on his lips.

Maybe he was queer, he whispered as such to Tommy one night, Tommy kissed him, he felt nothing.

"Maybe you just need to find the right girl."

Maybe Tommy was right.

Nancy Wheeler should've been the right girl. She was perfect, smart, kind, beautiful. He loved Nancy but he still felt nothing when she kissed him, maybe Nancy was right, he was bullshit, he couldn't even love right.

Steve loved Robin, Robin was different to Nancy maybe she was the right girl. She wasn't but Robin would use Steve to practice painting nails and let him borrow her sweaters. Robin gave him soft pink Chapstick and told him mascara made his eyes look pretty. Robin told him it's ok to feel like a girl sometimes cause sometimes they felt like a boy. Stevie felt like herself with Robin.

Eddie was different, he wasn't a girl but he made Stevie feel alive. Not at first though. Steve hated him, thought he was stealing her kids. Then he saved Dustin, then they talked a lot in the hospital, then Eddie stayed with him while he recovered, then Eddie kept staying, then months past then Stevie had a nightmare, then Eddie called him Stevie and Steve corrected Eddie that it was a Steve day and all Eddie did was smile and nod, then they started sharing a bed cause they felt safer that way, then Steve woke up one day and he felt the feelings everyone had told him about for years.

"Oh."

Steve wasn't broken she was just different. Kissing Eddie felt right that morning and every morning after.

What they’ve been up to.

The “unsolved queerology” is a reference to a spin-off @ajamlessbaby and @grimmfitzz made in the reblogs of the previous update, you can find it here (honestly the funniest thing that could’ve come out of this ahahah)

This epilogue is set sometime in the future, they all live in NYC, and they have a hard time combining their schedules but Steve and Nancy team up to make it work. Steve and Eddie have a soft spot for Indy tho, they have a second house there.

Corroded Coffin never gets as popular as Lily’s Flowers but they’re very successful nonetheless. They collab constantly despite having two very different genres. They have “conflicts” only when Nancy cheers on Robin more than CC, but that’s just because, in her words, “they’re a bunch of babies”.

Steve still does not count that as an official proposal despite his agreeing to marry Eddie. He makes Eddie believe he counts it as an official one, tho. When Eddie least expects him to, he proposes for real, in an official and cheesy romantic way. Eddie made Steve promise to tell no one that he cried. They do officially get married even if they’ve been calling each other “husband” for years.

As for Robin, she’s good. Sometimes, she still tiptoes around Nancy, or panics over minor stuff. She can’t help but expect her to act like Tammy used to. Sometimes it’s hard on the both of them, Nancy doesn’t like being compared to Tammy, but they manage. Robin never fails to show her how much she’s in love with her, and it’s more than enough for Nancy.

I wanna take a moment to say thank you. This has been my first long-term AU that I was able to finish and that I’m actually proud about, but I would’ve dropped it a long time ago if it wasn’t for every like, reblog and nice comment that you all left under my posts, it really helped me keep going even when I was insecure about what I had worked on.

Also thank you for being patient about this last update, I know some of you have been waiting and I promise I worked on it as soon as I could. I’m very happy with this epilogue, and I hope you are as well.

I don’t know if anyone is wondering, but I have plans to work on other SMAU ahah I really had so much fun making this one and I wanna keep going! I just need to sort out which prompt I wanna make and how. I hope to see you all in the next project
