I love how capitalists and Christians follow 1984 like a gospel of male fantasy and seem to gloss over how separating man from carnal desire is a Party ideal. The Christian, Patriarchal ideal that sex is to be hidden behind a ring and some words in an old book paraphrased in the 50s, is a Party ideal. Winston says it himself, he adores how Julia is not only a sexual deviant, but she is open and liberated by her sex. She loves herself and others freely, she kisses and has sex with any man she wants. Winston adores that she is a “rebel, but only from the waist downwards”. Conservatives lack the self-awareness to notice how hating sex and hating women and men alike for enjoying it is a direct byproduct of Capitalism. If it isn’t for profit, for making new workers to break the spirits of, it shouldn’t exist as it is. Having sex is revolution, and anyone who reads 1984 and doesn’t Get this message is not only a companion of the Party, but is more likely to side with it if it ever came to pass. Being aware of sex and enjoying it and speaking openly about it is a revolution in and of itself. Hating sex is a Party ideal.
