The moon bathed the city of Liyue in a soft, silvery glow as Xiao made his way back to Wangshu Inn. The night had been long, filled with the clashing of blades and the haunting cries of monsters that threatened the peace of the land. But now, as he ascended the stone steps to the inn, his steps became lighter, for he knew that waiting for him was the one person who made every battle worthwhile.

Upon entering the quiet room, Xiao's keen eyes immediately found your figure lying peacefully on the bed. His heart softened at the sight, your chest rising and falling in a rhythm that matched the serenity of the night. The dim light from the lanterns outside played gently on your features, casting a warm glow on your face.

With silent steps, Xiao approached the bed, his gaze never leaving the one who held his heart. He couldn't help but smile softly as he observed the tranquil expression on your face. The worries and fears that had haunted him during the night dissipated in the presence of the one he fought to protect.

he appears in a show of gale and turquoise almost before you finish saying his name.

“you came,” he says, lilting at the end, more question than statement.

“of course,” you reply, fixing him with a grin. “you called.”

you can feel the weight of his letter in your pocket.

let us meet at the usual spot if you are able to.

the first few strokes are blotted with ink, ever so slightly shaky, as if xiao had hesitated for a long, long time. perhaps he had. still, plain as day, he had written those very words. this was the first time he’s ever been so direct. and, well, who were you to deny him?

‘the usual spot’ was simply the lake near a small waterfall at cuijue slope. it was where you had first met xiao, and where the both of you had confessed. your business had you leaving liyue for bouts of time, and you had taken to exchanging letters with him during those days… apparantly you had been gone for longer than you’d expected.

“how could i not come?” you add on, before he can speak. it’s almost too easy how you pull him down to sit with you, resting your forehead on his back. you can’t help but tease him a little. “especially after you begged so nicely.”

huffing, he averts his gaze. they almost sound shameful to admit, the next words he utters. “you… are often busy.”

“i’ll always make time for you, you know that.” your voice is but a murmur now, muffled into his skin.

he hums. it’s ticklish on your cheek. “you need not. if it’s you, i can wait.”

you fall into his lap, and his fingers wind their way into your hair. there’s a woozy smile on your face now, and the amber in his eyes are as warm as the gentle sun. “you’re impossible. just don’t let me keep you waiting for too long, yea?”

he smiles, just the slightest, but a smile all the same. “you speak as if you would allow yourself to.”
