One under-appreciated breed of fic writer are the ones who hyperfocus on logistics to the exclusion of all canon shortcuts, and thus usually strike upon an awesome way to flesh out the worldbuilding or characters.

Like, I’m not necessarily talking realism here since often it’s still pretty far from realistic, but more like, “someone has to be running spies in this fantasy kingdom, and we’ve seen the whole royal court, so which background character is it? How does that change these three major interactions?” Or “real life historical nobility did in fact have some things to do that were like jobs, how does this human disaster cope with running an estate?” Or “there’s no reason for a sci-fi robot detective to know how to whitewater kayak, where’d she learn?” Or “if this guy is serving the emperor directly he has to be way high up in the space empire servant hierarchy, why is he doing this menial task for someone else? What’s his motive? Does he perhaps have the secret space telepathy?”

Anyway I’m always DELIGHTED to find a fic or writer who asks these questions because the fics themselves are universally bangers.

@destinysbounty you can’t just hide this in the tags-

I’ve seen so many fics where Kai is extra miserable in high temperatures because of his elemental powers or something but I think it should be the opposite. That man controls fire on the daily, holding it like a millimetre from his hands without complaining - he can handle heat. What he however should NOT be able to handle is the cold. If there’s even a slight cold breeze he’ll start to tremble, if it’s under 20C he’ll bring ski gear and double sweaters. He doesn’t mess with snow without 10 layers of protection.

Same with Zane, that guy walks around in cargo shorts and t-shirts in mid December. He could walk through a blizzard in sandals and not be too bothered but as soon as the temperature reaches double digits he refuses to leave the house.

Drew an AU version of movie!Kai (Red). In this AU, all the members of the Dorksquad (who have not met each other yet) are forced to be evil and work for various villain groups.

Red is unfortunately part of Char’s evil magic Fire Snakes gang, and is partly transformed into a snake with magic to match. He gets to see his sister, who’s the High Priestess of the Merlopian Wojira Cult, once in a while and just wants things to go back to the way they were before.

In the SPBNR AU version, Smith (show!Kai) finds out about the Dorksquad and proceeds to rescue all of them while introducing them to each other
