I think next thursday is gonna be the best day of my entire life tbh
submitted by an anon and a super good read about harry
I know this is long and you already posted something fantastic so it’s also unnecessary, but I kinda wanted to share my thoughts with a bigger platform than my own tiny stupid blog. I hope you don’t mind?
What these obsessed haters keep pedalling has some truth, but the problem is how they choose to 1. frame it. 2. read it.
On the “frame it” side: Harry is “haemorrhaging fans”. Yes, I’m not going to deny that because that’d be stupid because that’s what happens with all members of bands that go solo. All members of The Beatles did really good solo (some better than others), but none of them got the same amount success than with The Beatles. The Strokes are big; Julian Casablancas solo isn’t. Arctic Monkeys are big; The Last Shadow Puppets aren’t. Spice Girls? Gigantic. Geri Halliwell? Not so much. Even Justin Timberlake was never able to replicate his success in NSync solo (Nsync: 28m records sold in America with three albums, JT 10m records sold in America with four). The only two artists that broke out of a band and then made it bigger solo are Beyoncé and Michael Jackson. They’re the outliers in a sea of people that can actually find success after departing from a band, but a much, much smaller scale. This is just how things are.

SOMEONE IS FINALLY WRITING A FIC ABOUT THIS OMG I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS KIND OF AU FOR MONTHS YESSSS

that one note change where harry goes “IT’S A SIGN. OF. THE. TIIIIiiiiiiIIIIIIiiiiiiMES”. reblog if u agree
if every song from hs1 was a color, what would they be?
this kind of turned into a full-album analysis/review dkfjsal
[1] – Meet Me in the Hallway
this song is 110%, without a doubt, a murky and warm-toned maroon or purple… kind of like the color of a red wine. the way the bass line is so throaty and echoes in the background really just makes you feel all cozy? whole? it’s an incredible well-rounded song instrumentally speaking, and the acoustic guitar paired with the prominent bass reminds me so much of a dark night spent by a fire.
[2] – Sign of the Times
sott feels like a sunset or a sunrise – i can’t quite choose:
in the beginning, i think it’s a gradient of pale blues to a bright and perky sunshine yellow, like a mid-morning sky before the bass line and drums make an obvious presence in the song.
but as it progresses, the colors start to go deeper towards deep golden yellows and oranges and fiery reds, especially as the chorus builds and the power behind the music and the lyrics grow.
[3] – Carolina
i think the only logical color for this one is either bright pink or an ocean blue, given where the song is based off of and the pop-beach feel of the song too … like this song screams summer to me and i can’t imagine it being anything else but vibrant.
***Also, can we just take a second to appreciate the bass line of this song??? and the electric guitar around 2:20??? WOW
[4] – Two Ghosts
… what color is the soft glow that christmas / string lights give off? a warm white? also, most definitely a rich navy blue, like the middle of a really deep body of water. Something is so comforting while also painful about this song, and that’s why i think the warmth of a glowing white from lights and also a chilling blue compliment each other well.
[5] – Sweet Creature
all! of! the! pastels!!!! baby pink, a soft olive green, ivory, maybe even a bit of lavender or powder yellow – this song is so sweet and pure and warm and sounds like it would be perfectly played in the middle of a garden … the plucks of the acoustic guitar do nothing but remind me of spring and lil “oooh!”’s in the background are so innocently beautiful and this song just deserves all of the spring time and cheerful and childlike colors.
[6] – Only Angel
METALLICS. A sparkling gold glitter, a fiery bronze or copper, definitely some glitzy silvers and chromatics, as well as a sleek black. This is the ultimate Power Song and nothing says that more than a confident strut of glitter and mineral. I think the lack of ‘color’ here is good – it makes Only Angel stand out. (not to mention this song is a complete confidence boost if you need a good song to get your power strut on).
[7] – Kiwi
Because this song is just a full-out joke, I think it’s appropriate to be reminded of it by fluorescent colors like bright yellow and obnoxious oranges, all of the neon colors like flashing signs, drawing attention to the fact that this song is absolute MADNESS.
[8] – Ever Since New York
i have always gotten so many autumnal vibes from this song, so for sure the go-to color here would be a hunter or forest green or other jewel tones like navy or burnt orange … there’s a wholesome feeling to the way the instruments work so seamlessly well together to fill the air and create something so beautiful and also convey the heartbreak (not necessarily romantic!) he’s singing about.
[9] – Woman
this song is absolutely, most definitely, completely and seriously red. kind of foggy, kind of smokey, a deep red that’s alluring and also dangerous – it makes you feel a little more adventurous than you’d normally be and gives you a sense of power (which you rightfully deserve). There’s something so submissive about this song … but there is such a strong sense of jealously and envy that you can’t help be see a little bit of green (envy) sneak on in, too.
** this is another one of those songs that needs approximately 4985093 years of appreciate for the way the bass fills the air when you listen to it. also, the whiney and throaty and ragged electric guitar is so !!!! i don’t have words.
**** also, harry’s “la la la la”’s in the background around 3:07 deserved a grammy alone and THAT’s the tea
[10] – From The Dining Table
a foggy grey, solely because it sounds like a song that would be playing in the background over a rainy day in a city, a lonely night spend longing for someone else, and the hauntingly beautiful choir toward the end can only be best described as a solemn grey. there is a bit of hope near the end, you can tell by the way he leaves the entire album lingering on the “maybe you’ll call me sometime” notion, so I can see it all coming to an end with a slight pink or yellow, just enough of a color difference to tell that things are changing.
I’m curious to know your thoughts on this! what songs do you agree with? what do you think would be different?
