Summary:

Here ye! Here ye! It’s now time for ball season here on Sage’s Island! Students have been gossiping all year about the Glimmering Soirée, a night of revelry between the two schools that both inhabit Sage Island. Each year, one school hosts the other! Treating the guests as royalty. There’s dancing, music, delicious food and...a competition. This competition is to find the Belle of the Ball and to award them with honors such as a crown, scepter, and more! The faculty of both schools vote on the winner of the title. This year, it’s NRC’s turn at hosting, let’s see how well they do

Four Students are chosen as the Princes who are to act as the hosts of the event. They are to be princely, amicable, and welcoming to the guests of the ball. It’s chosen by chance by the Headmaster. The Princes are trained in the art of dance, conversation, and hosting. The Princes chosen this year are Malleus Draconia, Deuce Spade, Azul Ashengrotto, and Kalim Al-Asim. The Princes also partipate in the voting of the Belle of the Ball as well

But where do yuu fit into this? Our lovely Ramshackle prefect and their trusty feline-looking sidekick have a special position, given to them by our kind Headmaster! Yuu are here to help the princes out! And who knows, maybe your hard work won’t go unnoticed.

Okay, but I need a little context before I can properly answer this question.

Context; I'm a human goat/pig in the sense that I will eat any kind of food and every kind of food you put in front of me. What I'm craving in that specific moment factors into it to a certain extent, but in the end food is food and that's what I like.

But here's the thing; to me, 'cook for you' means it's something on a stove and/or grill. If that's the case, I'm going right for Jamil. Boy is creating feasts on the regular and ain't no way in the Sunset Savana that I'm going to pass up a chance to try it.

However, we are shown time and time again that Trey is a master of the oven (his family owns a bakery, so that's really not a surprise). It's not just desserts, either; there's more than one way to use pastry dough and we can agree Trey more than likely knows them all.

And another thing here is the matter of 'Paint the Roses'. I feel like that's kind of a cheat and isn't really what this question is about. This is about who you want cooking for you, and that says you ought to taste the food itself rather than whatever Trey can make it taste like

Additionally, I think both boys are capable of any number of flavors/spice levels; they've both had years of experience and both seem more than willing to try something new

Point is, this question is perfectly valid; just a little too vague.

Hihi! For Cal, midnight? Thank you!

What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

The later question is the easiest to answer; Cal spends the wee hours of the morning/final hours of the night looking either up at the stars or at a piece of metalworking.

Cal has always had a fascination with outer space from the aspect of 'so many possibilities, so much potential'. It gives him a faint hope for himself. (Not to mention how it's just plain gorgeous up there; he could spend hours just looking at the colors of a nebula). As for the metalworking, it's how Cal channels his emotional turmoil. His art comes from the heart, pure and simple. He takes great pride in it. He's also somewhat secretive about it; you're more than welcome to commission him for something, but his personal pieces will never see the light of day if he can help it.

Cal obviously has a fear of abandonment, but the one fear and anxiety that is stronger than that is him becoming a plaything/afterthought for someone else. He's seen what chasing after the validation/affection of others can do to a person due to how wrecked his mother was after Cal's father leaves them, and he refuses to let the same thing happen to him. Thus, he closes himself up and only has the smallest hint of his true self peeking out to seek out companionship if someone catches his interest. This is actually the attitude, along with his nimble fingers in both metalworking/tactile puzzle-solving/A Bunch of Stuff, Really, that earns him the Floyd Leech-brand nickname of Nautilus.

For Cal, wound: How does your OC handle being wounded? Are their wounds mostly physical? Mental? Emotional? What's the worst wound your OC has ever experienced?

Oh so much to talk about here

The long and short of it is that Cal has the deck stacked against him for much of his tween & teenage years. His already distant father ditches, his Ultimate Magic/Signature Spell emerges due to a fire that levels his family home, Cal's at-the-time undiagnosed Oppositional Defiance Disorder starts to really cause problems when he's halfway through middle school. That last one really comes into play during his freshman year at Corlux Key Seminary; he ends up having so many outbursts that he earns the derisive nickname 'Cal-amity' and nearly gets kicked out.

...so yeah; a lot of emotional/mental wounds going on there.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily the worst wound he ever experiences, but there's an incident during the 2nd Arcane Exchange (which he's only allowed to go on after painstakingly keeping himself in check for the school year up until that point) that does act as the 'straw that broke the camel's back' that very nearly sends him into Overblot but instead earns him an emergency psych evaluation. Thank you for that one, Jade & Azul

And that's only the stuff that happens in the year after canon (Yu would be a sophomore). In adulthood, things...okay, 'settle down' isn't really the right word for it because Cal is better mentally but his living situation is kinda fucked, but there's at least some level of stability.

...and then they get really fucking complicated due to Cal finding himself having to reach out to the people that hurt him because something unjustly terrible is happening to the love interest of someone Cal considered one of his few friends before everything went up in flames. Things get weird and emotional from there.

Rest assured there's a light at the end of the tunnel for this kid, but holy hell is it a LONG tunnel to begin with

Oisín: This answer honestly has 2 answers, so I will break them down in a way that makes sense.

To start, Oisín would never openly admit this, but after having a chance to develop very deep and strong personal relationships, they are afraid that they might do something to accidentally push them away or they might accidentally self-sabatoge their relationships. After spending so much time isolated and alone, and spending so much time fighting for a relationship that almost destroyed itself, they don't want to make the same mistakes again. They don't want to be alone again either.

Oisín also has to contend with nightmares that strike them as odd. I've spoken a bit about this here, but it's definitely an odd sensation when you are a creature of death and yet your dreams are plagued with visions of the past, with people you knew slaughtered, and with those you love now being brutally killed in front of you.

Being a creature of the night, whenever they need to clear their head (pun intended) they often go up onto the rooves of NRC and just sit and lurk, enjoying the evening solitude.

Kingsley: During his freshman year specifically - while he would never admit it - he is afraid of disappointing his parents and the consequences of what will happen if hw doesn't achieve their approval by the time he graduates. He's been tasked with "self-improvement" to become an "heir worthy of actually ruling". This actively drives everything he does until Jack, @cyanide-latte 's Copper, and @ramshacklerumble 's Gia start breaking through that absolutely steeled shell that this starts to change. By the time he reaches sophomore, junior, and senior year, that sort of changes to being afraid of letting his friends down.

If he needs to clear his head, he often will go out and do some target practice with his axes - much to Crowley's disapproval.

Emil: So this is a whole thing that actually leads to him going into Overblot. During his freshman and sophomore year, he starts searching for a way to prolong his younger sibling's life in order to buy himself time until he can find a cure for their terminal illness. When he gets the text from his mom that Riv is practically on their deathbed, Emil spirals. He stops eating. He stops sleeping. He starts skipping classes. And spends every waking hour working on trying to create a philosopher's stone... TLDR: He's afraid of losing his sibling.

Post-Overblot though, this is actually something I am in the process of sorting out. So I will definitely come back to this.

René: They don't exactly strike me as the sort to have many anxieties? But I guess the long and short of it is that once they get the taste of freedom, they are afraid that their father will metaphorically clip their wings. They become afraid of losing the freedom to be their own person. I don't think they necessarily have nightmares over it? But it does lead to them Overblotting.

Post-Overblot though, I think they have reocurring nightmares about the Overblot fight. About hurting the people they have come to love and cherish. (I sense a fic coming from this lol)

So, nothing's confirmed yet, but I'm starting to suspect Cal has sensory issues related to sound(pretty ironic considering he's into metal-working, but again it's not been confirmed).

Even without that, Cal would get irritated by Sebek from jump. Not just because the croc boy is Loud™, but Cal also finds Sebek to be judgmental af about humans and the 'solar surfer' is NOT here for it; he gets enough prejudice from his classmates at Corlux without getting it from a 'self-righteous sentient megaphone'. Cal is staying as far away as he can from Malleus's attendant as he possibly can.

👑: Cal's Relationship with Vil

Take Cal's displeasure at Sebek being a judgmental type, now multiply it by five and add in a dash of 'I don't trust your character for a second'. Cal takes one look at Vil Schoenheit when he does one of his senior year check-ins and alarms start blaring death metal because this pretty boy is setting off all kinds of red flags of toxicity for this Corlux cadet.

Are all of these thoughts justified? No, of course not; Cal doesn't have the context of the canon year's events that show there is much more depth to the former Pomefiore Housewarden's soul than meets the eye. Cal will even concede that Vil's line of work puts a shit ton of mental pressure on the guy to be perceived as perfect and that is not okay by any sense. Does he also think it's shitty that Vil is the kind of guy who thinks freckles/sunspots need to be covered up because they don't 'meet the right standard of beauty?' Very much yes.

As for how both of the canons view Cal...

Well, Cal's standoffish protectiveness of himself due to him having absolutely no trust in others (long story) probably isn't winning him any favor in either of their books.
