i feel like we all could have much more productive feminist conversations if we could acknowledge that the existence of oppression doesn't necessarily imply an unequal and/or opposite oppressor.

I was telling a story to illustrate the phenomenon, but I do think it's very important to recenter this conversation on Jews, so thank you for pointing that out. 🫂 I'm also sorry for getting overheated in my response. I try not to do that, and I think I failed here.

Part of what happens is that it's difficult to dismantle systems of oppression--it takes decades and tons of collective work. It's far easier to attack people and tell yourself you're attacking the system. It's even easier to attack people who don't actually benefit from the system, but share a superficial characteristic with those who do.

This is how we get to the point where many people honestly seem to believe they're attacking "white supremacy" or "whiteness" by hurting Jewish people online, because "Jews are white". When in actuality, they're just hurting Jewish people.

This hurts my heart. It would hurt my heart even if I weren't converting.

people who say pale skinned jews are "just white" make me laugh so hard. like do you wanna tell that to the people in the sundown towns? the KKK? random ass people on the street who are mad at jews existing?? you know i dont think it's white privilege if it can be taken away the second you leave your home, and will be absolutely be taken away in some towns, establishments, etc.

also this just ignores the shit that darker skinned and (very) visibly POC jews go through. but ofc antisemites pretend they dont exist because then that ruins their useless "argument"
