Rui would be the perfect company for when you have to pull an all-nighter trying to finish a project with a deadline. He's full of energy and doesn't get sleepy, so he'd easily stay up all night with you. He'd be there to keep refilling your mug as soon as he notices it's once again empty. He'd also remind you to drink lots of water (you can't live off of caffeine alone). If he sees you're starting to get discouraged, he'd not hesitate to give you words of encouragement, with some flirty jokes here and there "we'll definitely have to celebrate after you're done, we can go on a date as my treat 😉", causing you to chuckle. And suddenly you feel all the stress and worry that's been accumulating for the past hours slowly disappearing, now replaced with a boost of energy and confidence. His plan worked, and he feels so accomplished, staring at you with a fond smile on his face, wishing time would just stop, wishing he could spend every single night like this. And days. And seasons. He wants to spend every remaining second of his life with you. But for now, he settles for staying up all night with you, until the very end.

Lost in a Dream [Rui? Rui. RUI ANGST]

Inspired by the song: Lost in California - Doyoung.

In which Rui finds himself in a dream, only the dream is a constant repeat of his life before Darkwick.

It's not often Rui can fall asleep. Nights in Obscuary are spent cleaning around the dorm or prepping for tomorrow's business at his bar. He has excess energy, much of which needs to be depleted but a human cannot go by without sleep.

He may have the curse of the Grim Reaper, he is a ghoul, an anomaly but he still feels like a human. Obscuary, the house of non-humans, a vampire exists and the newest addition is a werewolf.

He's a human.

Rui Mizuki is a human.

He stops in his tracks, eyes darting between his room and the room the Inspector had stayed at. He turns the doorknob, dragging his heavy feet towards the bed. He still has to clean up, he needs to get gloves from his room, he needs to prepare for tomorrow, he cannot sleep, he shouldn't sleep.

A ten-minute nap wouldn't hurt.

He closes his eyes, promising himself to wake up before he dreams. The dreams he witnesses are never his, only of the ones he's killed. He doesn't quite know how he'd go about seeing his dream.

He sees the sunset in the sky, and the red beach in the evening sky. He sees his younger self, just himself three years ago, before Darkwick. Before he was a ghoul, before he was cursed.

Back when he was only human.

He hears his cheery laugh, he sees himself hit his friends jokingly. He cannot do so anymore.

The hands of a skeleton wrap around his neck, not enough to choke him yet. More skeletons grab his limbs, others hugging him, unwilling to let go, some turning to dust as they touch him.

All of them he's killed with his curse. But his eyes don't leave his younger self.

The scene changes and he finds himself under the shade of palm trees in the bright sunny morning. He recognizes the place but he wishes he didn't.

Surfing is fun, he loves it. There's not a single thing more he loves than surfing. He hasn't gone in the past three years, since Darkwick. He misses the feeling of cool water under the hot sun, he wants to feel the rush of excitement of overtaking an aggressive wave.

He wants to fall off the surfboard again, fully trusting his friends will be there to catch him. They would rescue him, without putting their life on the line. He doesn't like this dream.

He can only watch his younger self, knowing the future that will come. The future that will crush his dreams and hopes. The future of never having a moment alone, the constant fear of being watched.

His desires will endlessly devour him. Before the demon could consume him. Before his curse would end him.

He thinks an hour would've passed. The dream repeats itself, it's unchanging. His ideal life would be this but he cannot endlessly dream.

He has to wake up. He has to leave. The red beach and evening sun are replaced by the chilly night and the half moon. He'll leave with his memories, the only things he can look back on here.

The skeleton wraps his hands around Rui's neck, choking him, but he doesn't feel anything. Only the dust of the skeleton blows into the wind. Even in a dream, his curse doesn't disappear.

A nap shouldn't have hurt.

Time. He doesn't have any. In the next year, as he leaves Darkwick, he knows he'll be killed. They've done enough research on him when he was locked in Ultio's prison. Enough for him to forget.

He's lost on this anomalous island, a place he's falling behind. A place where he doesn't know where he is.

"I want to be a human," He utters. The ceiling was blurry, the light from the chandelier hurt his eyes, and the silky sheets felt uncomfortable against his ungloved hands.

The light has lost its glow, he's going to soon fade out at the hands of no one but himself.

When he sees you stalking Ren's favourite character, he gets it, he gets the reasoning. Lockpicking and tracking are all necessary to keep others safe.

He just wishes you would stop using your stigma so it doesn't harm you. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CREATE DEATH FLAGS?

He wishes he could take care of you. If you want, he could even take care of your children.

You're so nice to his player character too! Like you're the only one who told him you're going to look for hints to break his curse :(((

He would propose right then and there.

Wants to buy merch so bad but,, broke. So he creates his own DIY merch! Plushies are made, keychains? They're a bit over the place but you would like it so he doesn't have any complaints.

ALSO, your home screen lines, some of them are so comforting, it makes him emotional. He loves you.

may or may not listen to your voice actor's other characters confessing or being generally comforting, he likes to think it's you. [Has them on repeat.]

100% has Taiga pull on your banners in exchange for anomalous meat. [The anomalous meat ends up being the Jabberwock-sourced worms, same as the one he gives to Mystery Diner.]

only plays the game because Haru started it. Selected the same character Haru did, but then he meets you.

You're so silly!!! Like hello? You're so cute and you know flower language?! You also like Haru's favourite character and you're OP!??

You dislike the character he dislikes so he loves you more. You can be haters together <3

Makes flower crowns based on your colour scheme, even makes matching ones with Haru's favourite character. [Ren can suffer]

Also doesn't understand the gacha aspect but would likely blow up his phone if he doesn't get you.

Merch? MERCH OF YOU EXISTS?! You mean he doesn't have to look at you through a screen?

He's using Jabberwock's funding to get a cardboard cutout and bodypillow of you.

Drags you around on his walks in Jabberwock, and you both are on a silly date.

May or may not (will) get jealous when someone else likes you. They can't like you, only he can like you!

Will engage in ship wars, you can only be shipped with Haru's favourite character or him. [The Yandere Towa brain is taking over, *collapses*]

It was originally just going to be a causal game he wanted to play.

Sees Character Selection Screen, deletes the game. Redownloads it after searching for which one is the best meta-wise.

Is indifferent to you, maybe relates to you.

Your character is very different than what he'd usually be into so even he's unsure why he likes you so much.

Generally speaking, he'd like you automatically if you're meta-based and he's the type of player who uses the skip button, probably will never read the story.

But when he does: Ren: "Oh, I don't like this character." also Ren: "Lmao this character is funny. ...wait a moment." Yeah, he likes them a bit funny. (even when you aren't trying to be funny, you end up making him grin.)

100% going to be a tsundere about liking you.

Gacha rates are horrendous, he's the type of player who loses the hard pity, goes to hard pity again but on single pulls to get you.

Your equipment didn't come home but it's okay, he'll get it on your rerun, he has you at the very least!

Bro spends too much money in game to even buy merch.

Writes fanfiction of you or his ship.

Every week the people wait for him to post the new chapter of his fanfiction of you x reader for the people, mostly for himself, but for the people.

Definitely fights with the fans of the character you don't like on twitter lol.

Fingers intertwined, hands clasping each other like our own lives depended on it.

No need for an answer, his arms are around you in an instant, what a weird sensation! Real and alien at the same time. You feel his breath he’s almost panting, panicking while you bury your face on his chest and cling your arms around his waist. He’s tall and strong. His deadly embrace feels safe, you want spend the rest of your days like this.

The sensation starts to flicker as well as his presence. A few buzzing sounds and then nothing. Black vision, the solid couch you’re sitting on feels less comfy now that your beautiful illusion has been stripped away from you. You sigh at unison then remove the visor and you’re back again to reality, his sad handsome face mirroring your expression while you stare at each other in silence.

“I’ll have it fixed / Maybe it wasn’t a g.. “ you break it at the same time

“You first” you nod

“I’ll have someone fix it, we can try again sooner than you think” - he’s excited, his eyes sparkling at the thought - “I mean the only thing missing was your scent! And we can probably find a solution for that as well. Until I get rid of this damned.. what were you saying?”

You can’t tell him it feels wrong, it feels like you will soon be addicted to this. You also know how much he needs it, even if it’s fake. Your feelings and intentions are real though. Let’s be honest: you need it just as much.

“Yeah”- you smile - “I can’t wait”

He doesn't see you until the second chapter, hearing the rumours about you killing someone gets him a bit curious.

THEN YOU COME INTO PICTURE AND GAH DAMN, You're so strong and caring but don't know how to express your love.

You're so. *sigh* He doesn't know how to explain it. He just finds you absolutely adorable and wants to be there with you to protect you.

He tries to get pictures with cosplayers following Tohma's example but he's only gotten a few pictures.

TRADITIONAL ART?! Traditional art. Has Sho take good pictures of his art and posts them on Twitter, very wholesome, very demure.

His luck is unexpectedly very good. Gets all your editions, sometimes even doubles.

Only played the game because his Twitch chat asked him to. He asks them to select a character for him and they choose you.

He does not like you at first glance and selects another character, who coincidentally happens to be your friend.

He plays the second chapter while streaming and when the scene of you whimpering telling the man to put the knife down comes up, he hates you more.

Cue the transition of you being an absolute demon as the chapter passes.

You're an asshole? Sexy. [I read this in Na Jaemin's voice. *head in hands*]

You plan on killing him? and you're smart? and you manipulate?? Okay maybe you're not that bad...you're annoying, sure, but he doesn't hate you.

He's deluding himself into thinking he doesn't like you but every time you appear on screen, he has to stop himself from giggling like a highschooler who has a crush on someone.

He has a crush on you, he just doesn't know it yet.

He's the embodiment of "I hate this character" - puts up posters of the character on his wall.

His fans send him your merch just to spite him because they think he hates you. He doesn't particularly care about his fans, but he's frothing at the mouth whenever someone gives him your merchandise.

He doesn't spend his hard-earned money on you, but he uses the accounts of those old men he scammed to get you.

May or may not have had Sho cosplay you only to tell him he ruins your charm.

Very casual player, likes a select few characters, says he plays for the gameplay but plays for the story.

Likely got into it because Leo and Alan were playing it, then he saw Subaru playing it, went "okay, peer pressure."

Based on the selection, he got the idea you were a delinquent, sure, and you had a nice voice. But nothing much about you? he selects you anyway because why not.

THERE YOU ARE IN THE PROLOGUE and he's absolutely loving the attitude. Disrespecting the cat-boy chancellor? Heck yeah.

Plays through the second chapter where you come up, a bit annoyed by your lack of will to do anything but relatable.

He likes your bike though, very cool. 10/10 would go on long night rides with you.

After he learns you like cooking and that your friend is really just like a toxic-ex-significant other, he really starts appreciating you. You went from 'okay' to 'I love you' scale real quick.

Whatever dishes you mention, he's going to make them right then and there, he'll put the game on pause and go into the kitchen just to make it.

He may or may not have cosplayed you once [The Fox Robe does cosplays too, I TRUST. If free clothes then cosplay? yes.] or more than once.

Has a plushie of you and those little mini plushie keychains attached to his keys. Has jewellery based on you, my boy is not down bad, he's just so in love with your design and you.

Probably has more things that remind him of you than your actual merch.

Candles? Candles based on you? Yes.

Thinking about Rui's ability and how he can suck the life out of anyone he touches, taking their lifespan.

Ed is an exception because vampires are immortal, so his limbs get removed from his main body when Rui touches him.

SO! What I'm getting at, you could probably touch him for a few milliseconds at best before he takes your life. Kiss him!! But with his tie between your lips.

"I'm out of touch, you're out of time." and he sees the memories of every person he's taken the life of when he tries to go to sleep.

Only caught wind of the game because Kaito was crying about not getting his favourite character.

Out of curiosity (to bond with the Chaos Combo) he downloads the game. Lo and Behold, he finds himself playing as an Inspector attempting to cure his curse.

You don't catch his eye in the character selection screen, but he goes with you anyway because you're the first person he sees in the character selection.

When he sees you, sleeping on that sofa while his character is walking towards you, trying to wake you up, something shifts in his heart.

THEN, he goes on to find information about your story and other lore tidbits.

Finds out you play the piano and despairs because why tf are you not real?!

He gets every edition of you. R, SR, SSR, including your best equipment. He only pulls on your banners and spends money only for you.

Every other character in his roster is stuck at level 1 while every card of you is maxed out.

He doesn't go out of his house but whenever there's a convention that the fandom is going to be at, he goes outside.

Buys every single merch of you he finds his eyes on.

If there's an official event for you at a cafe or restaurant in another city, he won't go but he will pay others to go for him and ship him the additions you get from participating in the official event.

He has a fan account of you on twitter, retweets every art and fanfiction of you he finds. His home screen + lock screen + pfp will change every time he finds a new art piece of you.

He's also on the list of wasn't interested in the game.

But Jin started playing it and all he could talk about was his favorite character so he gave the game the chance.

Immediately did not like Jin's favourite character. You didn't catch his eye, instead he went for another character.

When he first saw, suit and all, lifting that heavy-ass weapon, he realized he needed something he didn't have.

OH AND YOUR VOICE!?!?! The way you tease your younger classmen, even though it's an invasion of privacy, he's strangely attracted to you.

You're like a butler, and when he finds out you're not as smart as you look (this is literally just Tohma's character omg) he's going to buy a ring to propose to you.

AND YOU'RE FRIENDS WITH THE CHARACTER HE SELECTED?! Now he just has to wait for your banner to get you.

[He's one of those people who loves a character but they go years without obtaining that character.]

Literally makes edits of you with those same official pictures. He likes the characters that the company keeps in the basement.

HAS taken pictures with every cosplayer who cosplayed you.

Will correct everyone if they say something wrong about your lore. He will not see misinformation about you being spread around, nuh uh.

Luca also isn't very much into games. He's focusing on his studies for now but when Kaito shows him a picture of you and his favourite character saying "Us, unfortunately" he downloads the game.

Selects the first character that pops up on the selection screen thinking he can change it later, he doesn't and he's going to lament it forever.

But luckily, he gets you on his first ten pull! You're his main now, every good piece of equipment he has will immediately go to you, though he's so guilty every time he takes a piece out from another character to give you.

When he sees you're a bit unhinged but very protective, he decides that he's going to make the best content for you, very wholesome content. He loves interacting with fanwork of you.

Is the nicest in your fandom. He's replying with those cute animals under every fanart of yours, like every fanart someone presses on, Luca's comment is already there.

Isn't too obsessive over you, you're just a character, he understands boundaries, he isn't too big on merch either.

But, he LOVES your voice actor's covers of about anything. Classical music goodbye, covers of songs by your voice actor is on repeat.

wants to attend your events so badly but he's a bit nervous about meeting so many people who also adore you.

...okay where do I begin.

He got the Frostheimers into the game in the first place.

Spent two whole hours deciding on who to select in the character selection screen. EVERYONE WAS TOO DAMN GOOD LOOKING.

But then he saw you in the prologue, you were stuck with his player character in a closet and you were so understanding of him!!

He fell bad right then and there.

Cue the regret of not selecting you for the selection screen.

every fanart on Twitter knows him, a few of them even blocked him because of his atrociously downbad comments about you.

his tweets about you belong in the hall of shame or fame, whatever you prefer.

Gambling? Gambling.

Maybe his bank called him one or two times telling him he didn't have money to spend.

Eventually had to borrow money from Romeo and even then failed to get you. His luck is bad irl and ingame, cut him some slack.

He loves you though, and spends his life daydreaming about you and his life together in a cottage in the woods, away from money-hungry debt collectors.

you know those people at kpop concert who bake sweets to give to people while they camp outside? Yeah, when there's an official event he goes around doing the same. He gets freebies of you for making cookies.
