Dusk, Sunset Colors Are Quickly Becoming More Of My Aesthetic.

Dusk, Sunset colors are quickly becoming more of my aesthetic.

I feel like everyone has there own place they go to in their heads, or not even a specific place for everyone, just a type of environment. For me that’s just a wide open field where the sky looks crystal clear like this. Sometimes I’m by myself. Sometimes there is a party going on in the distance, with background noise. Sometimes there’s silence, sometimes there’s certain songs playing in my head. It’s inspiring for me, and the colors and emotions this type of environment give me I take and apply to some more serious comic panels I’m working on.

Progress Shot For My Kinetic Type Project. Definitely Taking A Humorous Turn With The Quotes. Inspired

Progress shot for my kinetic type project. Definitely taking a humorous turn with the quotes. Inspired by an certain early South Park episode.

I’m quickly discovering null objects are my friend, and no longer a bane to my existence, like they were 6 months ago when I had to animate a walk cycle for my animation class.

I’m really just trying to have some fun with this last project, but it’s hard to tear away from nitpicky design choices, like dividing the bg picture into 2 layers to make it more dimensional and making the text fade out at strategic points. Or making the text pop up in timing with the music, which holy crap is that annoying to get that just right. But so far so good. I’m excited to get into some other effects for the text in the latter part of the video.

Some inspiration for kinetic type. I like how smoothly everything is animated. Probably won’t get to make it that smooth but some of the basic effects I’m going to look into recreating in the next couple of days. I like the ripple the S has going on, I might do that when I have all of the text up on screen .

I’m still looking for examples of bouncing text, but I’m obviously keeping my options open for what it ends up turning out as.

Final Photo For My Physical Type Assignment. It Was Hard To Get A Photo Where At Least Some Of The Box

Final photo for my Physical Type assignment. It was hard to get a photo where at least some of the box isn’t showing, so I had to add in a lot of shadows and bleeding out the painting to cover it up. I like how the text turned out, it was kind of lucky that the plastic sheet ended up folding back a little to give it more of a dimensional feel.

I re-watched one of my old favorites recently. Suspiria falls into this category that I like to refer to as “cozy horror”, or horror that is more dependent on shocking imagery and building suspense than loud action. As one of Argento’s early films, you can see his trademark use of bright and various colors throughout various scenes, which is a trait I’ve begun using in some of my experimental comics.

This movie brings a sense of fantasy which I’m very drawn to. It is essentially introducing darkness and violence into an otherwise fairy tale world, or what we would consider to be a fairy tale world in contemporary society. The imagery is beautiful and macabre at the same time.

Another movie I saw recently that falls into my “cozy horror” genre. It’s a French horror film about a vegetarian veterinary student who discovers some hidden instincts within herself during a hazing process at her university. The imagery is no where near as colorful as in Suspiria, but it is given on a much more realistic level, hitting me with more anxiety than Suspiria did. Much of the early movie contain scenes with a certain kind of nature that I am very drawn to in storytelling: otherwise normal scenarios...but there’s just something a little bit off.

The poster design here is also very illustrative and cool, and I think it really does capture the nature of the film.
