Louisa May Alcott Did Almost Too Good A Job Of Portraying Jo And Amy March As Perfect Foils To Each Other.
Louisa May Alcott did almost too good a job of portraying Jo and Amy March as perfect foils to each other. Maybe it's because of her own blend of love and envy toward her sister May. Or maybe it's just because society makes every woman or girl feel inferior, whether for "failing" to conform to gender expectations or for conforming too much to them. But with Jo and Amy, it seems almost impossible to like them both equally, or to prefer one without being slightly annoyed by the other. If you relate to one of them, then the other seems almost designed to trigger your insecurities.
Fans of each sister feel as if the other is privileged by the narrative and their own personal favorite is treated as inferior.
Jo fans feel as if Amy is held up as a model of proper manners and social graces, and is rewarded for it (namely by going to Europe and by being the best suited to Laurie), while Jo is shamed for being unladylike, not just by some of the other characters but to an extent by the self-deprecating Alcott as author.
Yet Amy fans feel as if Jo is held up as the character the reader is supposed to relate to and admire for her non-conformity, while Amy's refined, feminine tastes are unfairly treated as vain and silly, and they feel the sting of Amy's lack of professional success as an artist while Jo does succeed as an author.
I've seen this again and again online and in books, among members of both Team Jo and Team Amy.

how do you know whether you're aro or biromantic (i am asexual)
*im a minor, and i haven't dated anyone*
i mean both girls and guys look nice (like aesthetically, not sexually), but at the same time, if i were to realistically think, dating would be an absolute mess for me and i think i'd rather live by myself. i enjoy being alone, but the idea of someone is also nice. but at the same time i think girls and guys look hot, but not really in a realistic way.
obviously i know that you can't figure it out for me (even tho that would be really easy lol), do you think based off of what i've mentioned above, i might be more aro or biromantic?
thank you, and im so sorry for bothering you
Thanks for the question, no need to apologise ☺️
I feel like our situations are actually very similar.
During my time of questioning I was debating whether I was aromantic or biromantic because same, I like men and women aesthetically but I landed on aromantic because I came to the conclusion that I don’t even know what romantic attraction is so therefore I don’t think I feel it. I’ve only ever been in one relationship so don’t have much experience to draw from but looking back I don’t think I was romantically attracted to him.
I now happily live alone and dating absolutely isn’t in my future.
It’s difficult as well because attraction doesn’t equal action so you could be aromantic and wanna date people or biromantic and not wanna date people.
I’m sorry I don’t really have any answers for you. Feel free to dm me if you wanna discuss more!
"Now that's one form of magic that's definitely not gonna work on me." (
"So many parts. Hardly used."
"Well, there we are then." "I can come?" (He says only AFTER Donna made it VERY clear, she's not interested in him in that way)
"I was gonna be with you forever." "I know" (is it normal to spend eternity with your bestie and both be allo?)
*Insert every instance where Rose and the Doctor hug after being on the brink of death instead of having a typical kiss like typical romance couples*
Also, the ENTIRE fourth season is two idiots in a QPR. Fight me
The funniest thing about being aroace is growing up in middle school and thinking to yourself “…you guys are too young to be dating. We’re kids right now.” And then as you get older and reach college you’re still like “…you guys are too young to get married, how do you even know you like them like that?”
Like no that’s just how allo people are.
me: haha oh god this is so bad im making so many unsupported claims and pulling all this analysis out of my ass
my prof in the margins: excellent analysis!
me:

You pretty much described my existence. Yes, thank you for that
HOW dare you expect me to settle with a so-so romance for the rest of my life with just some guy when I grew up on angsty fanfiction of an angel who fell in love with an absolutely messed up human bcs he saw how pure and full of love his soul was despite him being a bit of a freak freak
