In the past decade, we've learned a lot about autism and what it means to be autistic. And one thing is certain -- there are a lot of amazing things that people with autism have accomplished. As we often tell my baby sister, people with autism are "everyday superheroes" and have no limit to what they can do.

I know how you all must feel. I know that I cannot begin to express how deeply sorry I am to have lost a man who helped make my childhood truly magical. I was always excited for the books and even more so for the movies -- the cast of "Harry Potter" will forever be close to my heart. Many of us grew up watching Alan Rickman as Severus Snape, a man who had so much wisdom to disperse about life and love. The word "always" will forever have a deeper meaning for me because of him. And though I never attended Hogwarts, that didn't stop me from learning from Professor Snape.

April is Autism Awareness Month. That means that the world will be blue, and any articles or events that happen during this month will be, first, dedicated to making you aware of what autism is, and second, focused on how we as a society can move from awareness to acceptance. Being aware of the existence of something is not the same as accepting it, but before we can accept something we must first come to an understanding of it. Here are five things that you can do to understand autism and learn how to accept those with it.
