The sound of someone pounding on your door at one in the morning was admittedly one of the more frightening experiences you’d had in a while. It didn’t wake you up, thankfully: you weren’t asleep since you took off work for your birthday, and you were taking full advantage of that by playing video games in your living room. It did, however, make you drop your controller with how forceful it had been, as well as made you reach for the baseball bat you kept around on the off chance someone broke in. With slow, calculated steps, you made your way over, leaning forward to peek through the peephole just to see your (very panicked) boyfriend on the other side.

With a sigh of relief, you set aside the bat and make a mental note to replace it elsewhere later. You unlatched your door, finally opening it to see that Jihoon was carrying a few things and already starting to apologize.

“I know I forgot,” he said, already making his way inside just to keep this conversation private, “and I promise it was because I was busy today working and not because I don’t think about you–because I do. I think about you a lot when I’m working, but–”

As Jihoon rambled on about how often he thought about you, you shut your door and locked it back while just watching him pace for a moment. The flowers he’d been carrying were set down carefully on your dining table, alongside a small box from the bakery the two of you had found a few months ago while out on a walk together.

“Jihoon?”

“I know I’m a bad boyfriend,” he finally said. “I know I forgot this year, and–I’m sorry.”

“What are you talking about?”
