Kusuriya no Hitorigoto | Ep4 | After about two months, Lady Lihua recovered enough to be able to walk by herself. She has self-respect, but isn’t arrogant. After that matter with the prince, I imagined her as a selfish princess, but as it turns out, she has a personality befitting a concubine.

Kaguya sighed after finishing her review of files and documents--some handed to her by recovery girl and some she's had to review per her counseling sessions with specific students. She stretched her back and glanced over to the clock, most of the students would be returning to class after their lunch break. From there, their dorms. She propped her chin against her palm, staring at the one occupying her couch currently.

Instead of using his usual sleeping bag, he was now asleep on her plush couch. Resting his eyes as he should, but contrary to his shabby appearance, she knew Aizawa was a hard worker. Its why he napped and she occasionally turned a blind eye to let him rest. It would be time soon, and she wondered vaguely if this meant he skipped his lunch. Easing out of her seat, she moved to the couch end, ❝ Aizawa-sensei...❞ He slept soundlessly, she observed and couldn't help smiling.

To think, she'd find herself working with her Kouhai from all those years ago again. Life was... a curious one. She leaned over some, resting her right hand against the back rise of the couch. Her other hand nudging his shoulder, one of his arms were thrown over his face. ❝ Aizawa-sensei... ❞ She paused, waiting and hearing his breathing steady as before. She pursed her lips, hesitating. They were alone.... ❝ Shouta-kun. ❞ When he stirred finally, she waited a moment then turned as he began to move. It felt a little.. embarrassing referring to him the way she did in highschool. They'd lead different lives since their own academy days, and weren't children anymore.

She picked up a small tray with onigiri she'd made back home, something she'd snacked on while she worked. Turning back to him, she set the tray down on the table. ❝ You should eat something before you return to your students--its not much, but should help until you can have a more filling meal. ❞

So for Twisted Wonderland: I like the idea of Kaguya studying in the nurses office, but if she was ever assigned a dorm, it would absolutely be Pomefiore. I can see her attending spell drive to tend to any of the athletes who get roughed up or need tending when practice gets too intense. She's the diligent student sort. I'll probably weave in her politics as a princess, or noble-daughter, and that outside of school she has done some modeling for the sake of drawing attention to charity programs she's promoted and worked with.

The events that followed left more then a sour taste on her tongue. She was forced to follow along Kaname and Aizen as they turned away from the arrancars--but when Aizen left, she made sure to talk to Kaname on his sense of... justice. No, what he did was much more perverse, and his sneered, defensive response was just as irritating. She could still recall Grimmjow's own stormy expression, and the blood that had flown from Kaname's blade to the end of her skirt. The only thing the hypocrite of a man offered an apology for.

She had asked Aizen what he was to do with her now mutilated guard--and he had only smiled, reminding her she was more than safe in these castle walls. Asshole.

Her steps were brisk and she was roaming her way down the hallway to her so-called room. Her gilded cage, always re-enforced with the honey-covered promise of security. Her blood as a maiden an allure to the creatures within these very same walls.

She saw the blood trail as she walked, and her previous irritation wavered, replaced with... worry. Grimmjow was as aggressive and bestial as any, or arguably worse---but he wasn't without reason. Without rational in the time she's been kept under his vigilance. When he had his unit, none had ever dared to lay a claw on her... She found her feet moved her faster, fluttering her gown as she rushed around and eventually found him in the most remote of areas. Dangerous. Risky... But.

❝ Grimmjow. ❞ She caught her breath, and tentatively approached knowing he'd be upset. Her gaze shifted to his arm, or lack of and how it bled. She knows not to test his ire or pride but---frowning, she moved closer, a dim glow on her eyes though her gaze softened. ❝ Grimmjow, let me heal your arm. ❞ Regardless of how angry he'd get, or if he snapped on her--she'd replace it, heal it. It would infuriate Kaname, who foolishly bought Aizen's ploy, but she couldn't abide from how he lost it. The dishonor.

Jushiro has a kind and gentle air about him, she noted as she inclined her head in his direction in a polite and demure bow. ❝ Thank you then, Jushiro-san. ❞ Seeing his enthusiasm, a small smile graced her rose-tinted lips and softened the ivory cheeks with gentler roundness.

He's also mindful of his pace, likely taking into account her own stride--what a considerate husband-to-be she has. Her gaze flitted across their surroundings, taking in the garden's length and how it remained parallel to the pathway inside the manor. No doubt to encourage the outside view. Hearing him speak up, she smiled once more. ❝ I do, I'm familiar with making them myself as well. If you'd like, perhaps I can make some in the kitchen as a treat with warm tea hm? ❞ She wouldn't doubt he'd be surprised to learn a lady of her station enjoyed being in the kitchen, though it was fundamental that one knew her way in the kitchen, but one also had servants to assist usually. ❝ I was taught well how to cook, but I also enjoy the process. It's soothing. Are there any dishes you dislike in particular or like more, Jushiro-san?❞

She keeps her voice soft as she addresses him, occasionally allowing her gaze to roam--to memorize the layout he reveals to her, but she'd focus back to him as soon as he spoke or shifted his attention back to her.

there’s a tension here , jushiro can tell . not of the negative sort , necessarily – or at least , he certainly hopes not – but a tension nevertheless . the kind that exists between two bodies that must be close , when the heart remains uncertain . it’s lamentable , but not unexpected , and the optimist in him notes that he already rather likes kaguya ; appreciates her calm and pleasant demeanor .

“ please , it would be my honor to show you around . ” the captain smiles brightly , thin hand absentmindedly gesturing towards his home . determined as he is for this to be a pleasant affair , nothing in his ( ever - so - busy ) schedule could possibly get in the way of this . “ follow me ! ”

he doesn’t walk quickly , preferring to enjoy the outdoor air as they pass through the garden . long days spent shut inside have given him a deep appreciation for these moments . “ oh , yes ! ” he answers , smile widening . “ i love ohagi ! do you ? ”

Kaguya's steps were careful and poised as she approached him, ❝ Chichiue sends his greetings,❞ She inclines her head, clasping her hands together and bowing politely. Her father had learned of Jushirou earlier on via Captain Commander Yamamoto, and in becoming acquainted, had shown his approval to Jushirou. Furthermore, her father wasn't an easy man to please, but it was a testimonial that Jushirou was well liked.

❝ He apologizes for not coming along, but is caught up with clan affairs.❞ She tilted her head up to him then. ❝ I've heard most of my things have been settled already. I was just going to learn the layout of the house. Perhaps you can show me? If I'm not interrupting your schedule, I hope? ❞

As a captain, she knew he had other obligations and more---it worried her, for his health and safekeeping but it would be something she would endure. Walking with him, she glanced at the kitchen as they passed. ❝ Ne, Jushirou-san, do you like ohagi?❞ This marriage may be more.. Political, but she'd like to get along with him.

catching her in the garden sparks an odd swirl of emotions in the captain’s chest . this is a sight he will grow used to , some day : the light shimmering against her hair , and the flowers . the delicate smile on her face . ( shunsui was right ; she is beautiful . ) he doesn’t think it right to appreciate this , though . married though they’ll soon be , it’s status and circumstance that has brought them together . he doesn’t intend to forget that ; doesn’t intend to push a budding relationship too far .

he doesn’t expect her to ever truly see him as a husband or a lover , nor does he view her as such – not when he’s been pushed upon her as something to save . but he would , some day , like to be her friend . which means treading carefully , in the beginning .

“ kaguya - san , ” he greets with a gentle smile . “ it’s a beautiful day , don’t you think ? ”

Today, she would be moving into her fiance’s household. While traditionally, men were meant to move into their future wives home--There were exceptions, when marrying someone of military status. Admittedly, she liked the cool air of the open space, the territory he resided in wide and spacious. It would take time, but she knew she’d need to become familiar with the layout of this place and her responsibilities. Her things would’ve been moved over swiftly by the servants.

What concerned her was her groom. He was a kind man by all accounts, but this union was agreed upon for what she was; a chance to save a dying man. Kaguya was well aware of the concerns her family had with her being born and her natural abilities but, she couldn’t deny the helplessness she felt not being able to actively use her powers. It was... suffocating. Perhaps now, she could make decisions for herself without worrying--perhaps she could change.

She found herself walking along the garden, observing a few plants here and there. She kneeled down over some of the snowdrops, small and only budding. She smiled, ❝ I hope I can tend to you and many more here.❞ Though she’d need to get some seeds first. Hearing steps, she rose up to her feet, the wind gently tugging at her hair. Lifting her hand to sweep it back, she caught her fiance’s gaze. ❝ Jushirou-san.❞ Oh, she was wondering if he was well enough to be up.

His eyes lifted to see the young woman that had walked in his path, her voice was just as soft as the tune that left his ‘flute’, quite a soothing tone as he couldn’t help but face her with a smile present upon his face. Ah, the days he remembered actually being a samurai..or perhaps one in training as he’s never officially arrived at the title of a samurai though he was somewhat trained in the art of swordsmanship. “It’s really no problem, in fact I’m rather flattered that my tune was something your ears could enjoy.”

Slowly his fingers release the leaf, allowing it to drift within the wind’s embrace, until it falls into the body of water and gently floats a drift. The woman before him was beautiful..her skin seemed rather flawless that he surmises that she couldn’t just be just another commoner. These were things often missed but with Kazuha’s keen senses he could definitely sense, smell something that definitely differentiated her from the common maiden, but of course it wasn’t his place or secret to spill. “My name is Kazuha and I’m pleased to meet you. I take it you usually come out here so far from the town.”

He had a pleasant voice, soft-spoken, and well-mannered--unlike the seldom more rougher-talking swordsmen she’d seen before. She watched as he released the leaf in his hands, letting the wind carry it as it drifted down into the stream nearby. He had a very gentle air about him, she thought, offering a civil bow in greeting as he introduced himself. ❝ My name is Nayo.❞

❝ I help gather bamboo shoots from the grove nearby, it’s for our warriors who help safeguard the village. ❞ It wasn’t a lie, technically, as she had helped gather such things with Menowara. ❝ If you’re hungry and need some shelter, we can welcome you. Please, I’m sure you could do with a warm meal, hm? ❞ And perhaps, he could share insight of news outside their own borders. Motioning him to follow, she set them along the familiar path and instantly heard the sound of children calling to her. ❝ Onee-chan! Nayo-Nee-chan! ❞

Four circled around her, three boys and a girl, quickly gathering around her waist in greeting. She chuckled, smiling at them, ❝ Ara, such an energetic bunch. I hope you didn’t skip your chores coming to see me. ❞ The boys grinned cheekily, ❝ No! We gathered lots of stuff. ❞  The more timid girl tugged her sleeve, ❝ Nayo-nee-chan, whose this? ❞ Kaguya’s smile turned sheepish, ❝ Ami-chan, its rude to point. This is a friend, his name is Kazuha-san. I thought he could do with some bamboo-shoot soup. ❞

One of the boys brightened. ❝ Oh. My pops makes the best soup! You gotta come to our place. Follow us! ❞ The children cheered for soup, racing ahead just as they passed some guards who stood vigil. They glanced at them, but only nodded as Kaguya guided Kazuha within the village. It was a well-flourished village, no one in passing looked desolate or poor upon a surface glance. Homes were sturdy, but there was construction being instructed both by the gate and some area’s as they walked on. Kaguya sighed, ❝ Due to the tensions rising, our village leader has insisted on fortifying the village defence with watch-towers, so I’m afraid you’ve arrived when work is still to be done Kazuha-san. ❞

The morning light felt warm as Kaguya strolled through the bamboo thicket, there were many groves in the area and even near her palace---she’d slipped on one of the less formal kimono’s of her attendant Menowara. It wasn’t the first time she’d swap places with her friend, nor would it be the last. Before her father had those stone walls built around her home, she often visited and played amongst the village children, but now... Tension lingered, and he worried greatly for her well-being.

But she knew her people, hardworking and kind---she had to know with her own ears and eyes if they were struggling or facing hardships she couldn’t help them with. She paused as she neared the stream, watching bamboo leaves flutter with the passing breeze and Otogi trees reveal themselves on the dirt path. There was a sound that drew her attention, a curious---flute? No, it wasn’t a flute but it had a musical charm to it. What was that sound?

She saw a young man, one who looked close in her years, sitting over one of the smoother and larger rocks by the stream. He was playing a... leaf? He paused from his playing, tilting his head in her direction before meeting her gaze. Sharp senses, she thought, noticing his katana sheathed but no crests... Kaguya offered him a polite smile, ❝ Oh, so you’re behind the pretty sound--My curiosity got the better of me. ❞ She tilted her head, ❝ You don’t look like a familiar face, are you passing through samurai-san? ❞
