I Haven't Seen Much Cat Content In The Last Few Days. That Is Why My Timeline Is Sparse.
I haven't seen much cat content in the last few days. That is why my timeline is sparse.
Let me tell you about my books instead!
I have a reverse harem of the abandoned daughter of the duke has daddy issues but is giving up on trying to get his attention. Her brother is gay. She's got 4 very handsome suitors.
You should read it! I'm posting it on Tapas for free, but if you want to read ahead, the ebook is available. If you want it in print, I've got that too!

Ron Swanson approach:
give yourself permission to do what you want.

Write for yourself.
Yeah, that's the worst cliche ever to hear, but REALLY. Truly! If you have the urge to write a dumb fanfic where two characters who have never met before get nasty in the sheets, then DO IT. If you want to write a sweeping epic that's completely original, do it.
But here's the real key to it:
You do not have to share it with anyone.
Your writing doesn't need to be posted anywhere. It can be just yours to enjoy.
Because here's the secret:
Eventually, after you write a bunch of this stuff for yourself, you'll start looking around and reading other people's work and see that "Oh... I write better than them. Why do they have so many notes?" And you know what? That's okay to feel. That's when you can start considering posting your work. Again, you don't have to.
Give yourself permission to write just because it's your hobby. Social media has pushed the idea that you have to profit from your hobbies, but you don't need to. No one on this Earth has been perfect at anything the first time they try it.
How to start writing for yourself:
One word at a time.
Open a Word document and put some Lorem Ipsum text there to make it not an intimidating blank page. Then give yourself a challenge. Write 500 words in a day. Write an outline for the story you want to tell. A character bio. Describe your badguy.
Don't be scared of your own voice, there's nothing to fear. Take some of the pressure off yourself, though. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to share it with people (yet, or ever).
And I promise, whatever you write, someone has written way worse and gotten critical acclaim for it. Readers will look past a lot of stuff if they enjoy the story.
Hell, My Immortal the Harry Potter fanfic is still being quoted.
Don't be scared. You're doin' just fine.
how do i get less insecure about my creative writing? i know the answer is going to be do it scared but i genuinely feel like i'm going to be sick whenever i even so much as open a writing program. i want to be able to do it scared but there must be an easier way :(

Extremely nitpicky but I hate white wedding gowns in fantasy, especially when they make absolutely no sense in the setting. No, that culture in the far north that prioritizes function over form and mostly wears heavy furs would not have the means, ability, or desire to make a sleeveless ivory silk gown with a semi-sweetheart neckline. Please be sensible about this and use your creativity instead of just slapping a Kleinfeld wedding gown into a medieval fantasy setting.
