The first family is the Weinsberg family, a wealthy media magnate family with Sid being a famous and powerful Hollywood producer and with siblings in the higher finance sectors. The Lawrence family, only consisting of Laura, Johnny and his aunt, with both sisters marrying into the 2 powerful families. Laura marrying Sid, and Emily marrying Jeán Etoile, who is the head of L'Etoile family. A French Monesgaque clan whose wealth dates back to the early 1900s.

The 3 families enjoy a leverage of wealth and social status, yet have two children who join Karate. Johnny Lawrence, son of Laura Lawrence and stepson of Sid Weinsberg. And Ethan Etolie, son of Jeán and Emily Etolie.
