vulture

benevolent,

i’ll let your teeth dig into the meat of where my shoulder meets my neck

keep my disease at bay and prevent it from spreading

i’ll let your beak nip and your talons claw at my post-warm flesh

swallow me whole and regurgitate my sinful silence

you’ve circled before,

dark omen lifting with flight.

kettle.

plead to me with your lilt,

your taps and trills.

i will never truly know if i’m more than carrion to you,

talons scraping the dirt.

committee.

allow me to push you to wake,

bowing and tucking and craning,

between bones

below meat,

below fat.

suck the marrow from me,

leave me dead and

empty and

no longer.
