All your friends who have boyfriends or girlfriends always have the same complaint.

"I can't STAND it when they're on their phone. It's so annoying! Hours pass and they don't say a word to me. It bothers me so much!"

And for a while, you thought it over. You're dating, so it makes sense right? If they're with you, they should pay attention to you. After all, what's the point of being together if you're not talking or sharing? Isn't that what you do in a relationship? But then something happened...

When you walk into your bedroom tonight, there's your boyfriend, back against your headboard, legs manspread across your comforter, and thumb rhythmically scrolling through his phone. His hair is messy; clearly he's been sleeping in your bed for a while if his socks scattered across your floor have anything to say about it. Now your sheets will smell like him when you lie down later. He sighs as the light from his screen illuminates his freshly washed cheeks and damp eyelashes from his earlier hot shower.

You stand there for a moment. But he doesn't notice you, or if he does, he doesn't say anything to you.

"Hey, Koo."

He doesn't respond verbally. He doesn't smile at the sound of your voice. He just lifts his arms to provide ample space for you to shimmy your way into the spot between his legs. Your head rests against his chest, your own phone held in front of your face while his chin uses your hair as a prop. His legs gently enclose around you, twisting and interlocking with your limbs as if second nature. When his arm lays across your middle, you can play with the hair tie he keeps around his wrist for those times you forget one.

Still, he doesn't say anything and he doesn't even look at you while he cuddles you into a cocoon like embrace.

He's so familiar to you. Knowing him since you were kids, your first memories are with him playing in the yard and napping together on your mother's couch. He's always been there, and now that he's claimed you as his, you've been promised he always will be. You memorized each constellation of his freckles before you memorized your multiplication tables. He understood that flicker of excitement in your eyes before he understood his own thoughts.

Glancing up, you catch sight of his Instagram feed. He scrolls past a few pics, double tapping his members' posts and leaving a short string of emojis beneath the newest profile update from uarmyhope.

"What's that?" you ask.

"Hoba." He shows you the screen, titling it so you can see better.

"Cute."

And that's it. No analysis of how Hoseok's personal style has developed lately. No deep internal revelation of your own need to identify what your personal aesthetic should be. Jungkook doesn't feel the need to ask what you're doing on your phone and he doesn't make small talk with you while you scroll through your feed.

The silence is comforting. Just being with each other, no noise, no talking, no expectations. Outside is dark and in your room is very warm. His body is firm beneath you but his sweatshirt is fluffy and inviting. The bare skin of your thighs might be embarrassing if Jungkook had not been between them more times than you can count. But tonight isn't one of those nights. He doesn't try to start anything and neither do you, and that's okay.

He kisses the top of your head as you adjust, never once asking about your day or sharing about his. He just sits on his phone without a care in the world, allowing you to lean against his chest while you play on your phone. He doesn't pay you any special attention and you don't pay him any. Not on the surface anyway. You both text other people, like other posts, do other things. Every so often, you feel him shift beneath you and slowly sink further and further onto the bed, and you sink further and further into his embrace.

Hours pass and not a word is spoken.

And the funny thing is...it doesn't bother you one bit. You appreciate that Jungkook can be here and be on his phone. You like being able to be together, enjoying each other's company without the need of words or verbal confirmation. Just being here with him like this is rejuvenating.

When you rub your eyes, Jungkook reaches over to turn off your lamp as if on command. When Jungkook starts fiddling with the edge of the blanket, you immediately sit up to pull it back and help him cuddle inside safe and sound as if on routine.

When the two of you are ready to sleep, you place both your phones on their respective chargers and return to find Jungkook already with his eyes shut and his head resting prettily on your pillow.

He doesn't say a word; he just opens his arms to provide you ample space to crawl in with him, scooting close to his body and wrapping your arms around his waist so you can pull him closer. His lips find your forehead to press a gentle goodnight to your skin, and then he's asleep. Soundly and lovingly holding you to his heart so the beating sings you a lullaby into the night.

And he doesn't say a word.

But he doesn't have to.

And it doesn't bother you one bit.

"its me or the ps5, jungkook."

you regret getting him that...object for his birthday. you love him, you really do but everyone has their obsessions, turns out its late night gaming for your boyfriend, with the screen at full brightness, no matter the time of day.

you would've made sure bam and midi were freshly hydrated for the night, letting them tuck themselves into their respective beds. being the ever-doting mother, you go as far as to read midi a bedtime story, always eliciting tiny thumps from her squishy paw when you slowly slink away. bam listens too, head daintily placed on his paws, always the gentleman. (learnt from the best, of course!)

having made sure the kids were in bed, you head to your bedroom, hoping to catch up with some episodes of euphoria, get some cuddles from your beloved boyfriend and falling asleep to his steady breathing, his gentle heartbeat always your favourite lullaby-apart from his lilting voice.

but no. no, you had to be the attentive girlfriend and pick up his not-so-subtle hints on upgrading his latest playstation. at first, you thought he was following the trend, hoping his expensive desire would die down. it didn't, much to your dismay and so, you bought it. paid a pretty penny but at the end of the day, who wouldn't want to see his pretty eyes light up, his pearly whites on full display and witness joy personified?

doe eyes looking up at you, tattooed hand reaching out for you but his other hand gripping his controller like its a lifeline. "just five minutes, darling, i swear then we can see what shit cassie got up to this week, okay?'

no, not okay. you've purposely not watched the show without him, knowing he would whine and guilt trip you to making blueberry cheesecake again.

jungkook cannot believe you're giving him an ultimatum right now. the score's never been this high and he's so close to obliterating everything in sight and wants to brag it to you, so he can get head pats and cuddles, maybe even celebratory fried chicken. he somehow coaxes you to get into his favourite cuddling position, limbs wrapped around him like his personal koala. you squint at the bright light emanating from the screen, already knowing he's gonna complain of a headache tomorrow morning.

"you know, maybe its time you cut down on screen time."

you know sound like a nagging mother, you guess its from the latest additions to your family, your motherly instincts kicking in when you calculate the amount of time your boyfriend has spent on his gadgets.

this elicits a genuine gasp from your human pillow, almost dropping his controller. "you can't say that," he says stubbornly, switching off the ps5-thank goodness for that-shifting you in such a way that you're facing him now, furrowed eyebrows and pouty lips staring back at you.

"i'm just saying," you start slowly but surely, "if you cut down on the screen time, maybe your frequent headaches would, you know, be less frequent." you think you would've made your point, got some sense into your thick-headed boyfriend-no hate, you love his thick hair, somehow always finding a chance to braid it-but no, again.

sparkly but tired doe eyes widening, mouth opening and closing like a furious gaping fish, "you can't take away gaming time from me," he says, "you just can't." he says vehemently, shocked that you're suggesting such a thing.

you smile slightly, realizing your beloved has misunderstood you and open your mouth to say, "i'm not telling you get rid of it, love, it would hurt my heart too but don't you think you've been spending too much time on this?" jungkook ticks his head to the side, wondering how it would affect you but realization dawns on his face, remembering that you bought it for him.

"but its me! the love of your life!" he says out loudly, causing you to keep a hand over his mouth, scolding him for speaking so loudly when the kids are sleeping. his response is a kiss to your palm with, "you think i'm spending too much time gaming?" he asks softly. you nod shyly, not knowing what to say now that he's found the root cause of tonight's tiny tantrum.

he lets you go ahead with it though, pouts and your soft voicing of telling him that you feel left out and the kids too feel the same, never getting the time you spent before. it makes his heart sigh, not realizing how much it affected the 3 of you. jungkook asks if you feel better after ranting as he peppers kisses all over your face, as a start to his apology. its sincere, the way he softly tells you he didn't know it would get to his head and that he secretly loved it when you praised him whenever he was on top of the scoreboard. you smile, knowing he loved it, always acting like midi whenever you gave him a celebratory massage to ease his headache, leg bouncing up and down in peace.

you hold his face so he's looking at you. "i don't want to take away your me time," you say, "i just hope you know there are cons to this as much there are pros."

he nods in understanding, leaning in for a well-deserved kiss after your talk. you give it to him, knowing you both deserve it too.

"can we see what cassie got up to this week?" you ask, snuggling into him. before you could tell him that he could rest if he wanted to, he's already pulling up the laptop, fingers quickly moving so he's opening up the show as if to say, "hell yeah."
