Writing Tip #2: Good-Guy Protagonist

Writing Tip #2: Good-Guy protagonist

We’re back and definitely not by popular demand. Even if no one wants to hear I’m still making these damn things because they’re just might be one or two people I can help by doing this. So I’m doing it and if you have a problem with that than deal with it.

The topic for this one is going to be personally covering my least favorite Archetype for a protagonist. An Archetype that has become so FUCKIN common you can see it literally everywhere. It drags on my nerves to an unending degree.

This kind of protagonist has these following points normally most if not all that make them who they are:

Goes out of their way to help people

Likes teaching life lessons

Hold’s morals above all else

Refuses to kill

Friends are the best thing since sliced bread

Rarely if ever fails

Dead mentor

I’m pretty sure you all ae getting war-like flashbacks to all of the protagonists like that. Ranging from Superman to most YA protagonist in novels. This kind of character isn’t limited to just books but spans every single form of story-telling. The issue with this kind of protagonist are that they’re is NO REAL PERSON LIKE THAT. It sacrifices relatability for having a morally just protagonist which is an issue in of itself.

My choice for the best iteration would be Klaus Von. Reinherz from Kekkai Sensen(Blood-Blockade Battlefront)

Writing Tip #2: Good-Guy Protagonist

He does the Good Guy Protagonist justice, by not being completely unrelatable. He’s shown to have a wild side being able to actually enjoy fighting, and it also shows us that this good guy nature can be abused. With him sometimes letting it go straight to his head. the pragmatism of being able to say “sometimes you have to kill” and openly showing that he rather dislikes it, but is willing. The most important way they do this is by having HIM not the protagonist, but a mentor to ours. It fits his archetype without making it get in the way of believability.

If I had to pick any story for this type of character it would be in a YA adventure with him as the mentor. It highlights the strong points while diminishing the weak ones. You can have him be the main for many novels, but be absolutely sure to keep flaws in mind to ensure that the characters believable.

No seriously guys, comment on peoples fic.

Writers as desperate for comments. Desperate.

I’m in a writing group with around 40 people and one of the common reasons people don’t post their work is because “no one ever comments on it, so no one is reading it” which blows because their work is amazing and instead it’s sitting in storage.

Comments lead to posting more fic. Trust me.

Kekkai Sensen ()

Kekkai Sensen (血界戦線)

The scene continues from last month’s Spoon 2Di Magazine (Amazon Japan | US), with the members of Libra stopping at Dianne’s Diner for a quick bite to eat after shopping. Animation director and key animator Koichi Hayashi (林宏一) is once again the artist.

Nightow’s Comments Pt2

Nightow’s Comments- First Round Here

Second round of Nightow’s comments from B5.

( from this point on POV= Nightow/ AN= Me)

KK:

I wanted to put another woman on the team. I wanted a character who used firearms. I gave her an eyepatch considering the design balance of the team. K.K is a codename. She has a clear model (although a bit unrelated so I’m not going to reveal it in detail lol). K.K’s life (and past) is quite complicated. Her husband (AN: Danna= husband!) should know her real name. She spends her birthday with her husband.

Zed:

When creating Zed’s design, I was thinking of a masked character or someone that doesn’t look human. So I made a fish person. His design was the most difficult for me and I find myself changing his design little by little. Because I wanted him to be able to “glide” his weight is unexpectedly lighter than a normal humans (laughs). His skin is semi-transparent and gradually becomes “soup-like”. He has the same seriousness as Klaus however he properly fights Zapp due to being on the same level.

Brody & Hummer

The team’s “Gori-macho” (gorilla). This character is absolutely essential. When thinking of what the big body should like, I thought of Venom from Spider-Man. I thought it would be interesting if the exterior looked kind of muddy. Hummer is a natural gigolo even without trying. He is a person who can survive without having to work (lol). Just by smiling and saying “thanks” he is able to eat from the selflessness of the older women in the city.  Although his method of living is much like his Zapps, Hummer is much better at being a pimp. Brody tends to be misunderstood. Although his mouth looks like it was self-inflicted cuts… it’s actually just markings.

Gilbert:

Gilbert’s design was based off a mummy, I was inspired by Alfred the “All-purpose Butler” from Batman. For a young master like Klaus, a talented butler is essential. He is good at driving everything, however there may be things that can’t be done. The bandages are not wrapped around the whole body only the parts that are visible. His skin color might be a result of him being a corpse.

I’ve been stalking twitter for the past half day since B5 came out and this is what i have gleaned so far:

Klaus has an older sister and is the youngest in his family

Klaus is 19 cm taller than Steven

Klaus weighs 1.5 times more than Steven

Klaus’ birthday is 12/31

Steven’s birthday is 6/9 (it’s in six days!!!)

Steven is four years older than Klaus, making him 32 years old

KK is older than Steven

Dog Hummer is older than Klaus

The A in Steven A. Starphase stands for Alain. It comes from the name of famous french actor Alain Delon

Zed is only thirteen years old!!

Daniel Law has a twin!

Klaus’ blood technique is the most strenuous of them all and he uses the most blood out of all the other libra members
