What about Osborn's sexy date?

What did they actually do? Cause the PV is so suggestive.

there are date branches so, technically, there's no "proper" order of what was done. although Light and Night seems to treat every part of a date as canon and callbacks can be done with any branch, ex. Jesse got a callback in his personal route that you only see if you choose to do nothing during a date (very surprising).

i'll do a "quick" summary of Osborn's date but honestly Light and Night is onto something with their date branches, even if it makes what's canon confusing, because they can fit multiple stories into a single date and it's amazing. i actually prefer the less suggestive branch because it made me tear up.

prologue: Osborn runs late to their date of going for a drive because he has to fix the jeep he's going to use since his racing teammates broke it after borrowing it. the heroine decides to go over and sort of help by passing him tools (i love that he suggests for her to change into his work clothes so she doesn't dirty her dress; that's the origin of the clothes she's wearing in the PV apparently LOL).

anyway, she finds out he prepared a Valentine's present in the jeep for her. the trunk is filled with pink flowers, pink roses making a heart in the center, and pink and white flags hanging from the roof that spell out her name. the heroine pokes fun at him for being so corny, but is still very touched and kisses him on the cheek.

choose to do nothing: Osborn fixes the car and they take a small break where the heroine falls asleep on him.

ask Osborn: the date follows his original plan to have a candlit dinner at a restaurant on the top of a mountain. because it's Valentine's the restaurant set up a small game where couples can ask each other questions off of a card. first question is whether he likes her cooking or the restuarant cooking, he naturally picks her cooking. second question is why he brought her here. he picked this restaurant because it overlooks the entire city: the place they first met, the place they reunited, and all the spots they see each other.

Osborn then says it's his turn to ask questions. the question is what she likes to call him. it's extremely funny that if you call him by an intimate nickname you make him choke on water.

observe his cars: since they're in Osborn's garage, the heroine takes a look at all his collector cars. she sees an interesting one and gets into the driver's seat and teasingly tells Osborn to put on his seat belt in the passenger's seat. extreme innuendo flirting happens here. i've never heard someone describe parts of a car in such a lewd way!

fix the car: Osborn worries about the heroine getting too bored, since she only passes him tools, and lets her go to his collector's room (she's keyed into his high tech security!). there he takes her on a tour and talks about the cars. what really touched me here is that you can see his love for his cars and he gets a little embarrassed, wondering if he's boring her with this talk, but the way he looks at his cars is the same way he looks at her, with pure adoration.

he also talks about this regular beat-up SUV that saved his life during a mission and he considers it to be a lucky car, so he gets the heroine to sit in it so that she can get this luck too.

they return to the jeep and heroine gives him the Valentine's gift she made for him which is fruit candy. there's a cute squabble because Osborn says that it's all his, since she made it for him, and puts the jar out of her reach and starts eating the candy.

they sit on the hood of the jeep and then Osborn lies about the candy being sour. he's the one who gets the heroine to sit on him so she can reach the jar that he placed right in the center of the roof of the jeep. then he gets her to feed him the candy. she gets one, he gets one.

but she accidentally eats the last lemon candy and Osborn refuses the strawberry one because he "only eats lemon candy". then we get into the extremely hot and heavy makeout session where the heroine kisses him to feed him the candy and Osborn completely takes over (AJIE YOUR PANTING HERE IS ILLEGAL!?).

the rest of the candy gets finished off because Osborn keeps feeding them to the heroine and then eating it out of her mouth. i honestly believe they did it right in the garage because there's descriptions about "water stains", the empty jar rolling off the roof and shattering on the ground but no one caring, and the flowers in the trunk swaying as if there's a breeze. most importantly, the promise of going for a drive has been filled in another form.

go for a drive: my favorite branch where the heroine recalls that Osborn once told her he would take her away from this dizzying world. he agrees to drive her to the end of the world. he doesn't know what's there, but he knows what's not there: no troubles, no noisy crowds, just the two of them. osborn teasingly says it sounds like they're eloping.

he takes a quick shower before they go for the drive, which is where you see the other CG of him being half-naked. it's actually not too important in the scheme of things though LOL.

on their drive at night, there's beautiful descriptions about how it does feel like they've reached the end of the world, and when Osborn asks her if she knows what's at the end of the world now the heroine replies that it has him. SOBS.

anyway, hilariously, they run out of gas and so they have to stop and the heroine sees a drive-in theatre so they decide to watch a movie. Osborn has a duffel bag with an army blanket that he spreads over the heroine's legs. he also finds her Valentine's gift she placed in his car and they eat the candy.

now we enter the important part that made me tear up. the movie has a line about how traveling comes first, but then follows doubts and homesickness. the heroine thinks this makes sense but Osborn disagrees.

Osborn: I think it’s precisely because there’s homesickness and attachments that going on a journey becomes a trip. Osborn: Otherwise, it can only be called “wandering”.

i really dislike comparing characters from two games but 2 years ago i wrote an essay for Bai Qi called (Price of) Freedom where i said "If you don’t have a place to call home then you’re not roaming the world in freedom, you’re just lost in the world." but at the end of this essay, i noticed that Papergames highlights the theme of freedom for Bai Qi specifically by taking away and restricting his freedom: "The price exacted for trying to have this freedom is precisely that of his freedom."

so, oh god, the shriek i let out when Osborn echoed my words. is it such a surprise i fell so hard for him when his theme of freedom was what i've been searching for this entire time? 在冥冥中,原来我的心早就连着他的心.

the heroine thinks about how uncontainable Osborn is, like an intangible flame that can never be possessed. she asks if he can leave her at his side, but he laughs and says she’s got it wrong. it's not if he can leave her at his side, but if she can accompany him.

he’s already told her that, as long as she wants, she just needs to say the word and they can immediately leave on a journey to go to the end of the world. but if she's tired... he gives her the key to his house and tells her she can wait for him there.

i teared up here because wanderlust is engraved in his bones. she's always welcome to come with him, but she can also wait for him to return and he will do that, no matter what the obstacles are or how long it takes. a racer will also have times he wishes to stop, a sailor will also have times he wants to return to land. i honestly love this man who embodies freedom so hard.

like i said before in Home Is you, Is you: “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it’s yours. If it doesn’t, it never was.” the ultimate trust shown between them is this right here. the heroine can trust him to always return to her, no matter where he goes. Osborn can trust that she will wait for him and believe in him.

In the night, our car drove on the straight road. The lights of the city in the distance were like glimmering stars in the Milky Way. In an infinitely expanding city, everyone was searching unceasingly for coordinates, but his coordinate was right at his side in this moment.

epilogue: they park the jeep and decide to take a walk along the streets where they see someone confessing through a drone show. Osborn suddenly asks if the heroine likes this type of confession. the heroine comments on how some people believe feelings are just between two people, while others want to declare their love to the whole world. as for her, she doesn't mind the method as long as it’s the right person.

here Osborn reveals that his racing teammates gave him a bunch of suggestions for Valentine's, which is why there were flowers in the jeep haha, but what he’s going to give her right now is entirely his own idea.

he gives her a button necklace, just like the one she made for him in Chapter 9 (and the one we see in the PV). he tells her that she once said the second button is closest to the heart, then right now her heart should be full of him.

LiEat, the Novel: Prologues & Part I

LiEat, The Novel: Prologues & Part I

LiEat: The Lie-Eating Dragon and the Forgotten-Color Songstress is a book by △○□× (Miwashiba), a novel based on their Wolf RPG Editor game series of the same title. The series as a whole follows a con artist of many names and a young dragon girl named Efina who can eat people’s lies. The novel is a story which precedes the games about Violet Town, a town with the legend of a mythical wish-granting bluebird. I encourage you to buy the book to support Miwashiba. All the illustrations are by them; there are some color ones in the front, and numerous grayscale illustrations in the chapters. (Amazon) (Kinokuniya) (CDJapan) You can read my translation as a PDF here. The book is split up like so: Two very short prologue chapters, two very large chapters for the story proper, and some bonus stories at the end. So here are those prologues and the first half of the story. Part II
