When your eyes meet, you realize that in front of you kneels an elf, pointed ears slightly hidden behind the dark curly hair that falls into his piercing eyes that are unreadable. As you reach for his hand, looking for a tether that will ground you as your body shakes, you don't really care if he's an enemy desiring to have your blood on his sword or just someone who will use you as many others did before. He tentatively takes your hand in his larger ones. 

"I-I can't... breathe," you cry out, shaking. At this point, you aren't even crying, only heaving for breath, and the silence in your mind is deafening. "Please," you whisper quietly. You don't know what you're begging for. Please tell me my dragon is alive. Please slit my throat with your finest dagger if my dragon is dead. Please. 

He gulps slowly, Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He locks his gaze with yours. Your eyes fill with tears again, and even if you feel his magic easing into you again, trying to take your pain away, this time, it doesn't help. 

"Your dragon is dead, dragon rider," he whispers to you.
