Do you have any advice on how to write a character? You can write Stiles and Theo, and many other characters, so well, and sometimes when I'm writing I start doubting if I'm doing the characters justice. Like, "would they say this like that?", "would they ever do this?", "would they ever think that?". Do you have any method to go through this kind of things?
Oh, this is a challenge.
Practise would be the short answer. Also, stop doubting yourself (I know, easier said than done). I tended to overthink everything I write, especially in the beginning. I still do in some scenes. But often, that’s just my self-doubt trying to kick my butt. And even if it doesn’t match the source material 100%, then that’s perfectly fine as well.
Tbh, Stiles, Theo, and Lydia kinda just… worked? I guess. Probably because I was very familiar with them when I finally started writing (or rather, when I picked up writing again and actually dared to post my works). But when I started including Brett more, I struggled. He’s a minor character with not a lot of scenes, and I wasn’t really sure how he’d behave and talk. So, I decided to do my research.
Basically, what I did was the following: I checked what kind of context my scene would be in - is it something with high action, something funny, something sad, etc. When I outlined the scene and knew what I needed, I went back to the source material and looked for a scene that would at the very least fit the overall atmosphere, if not the context, so I could get a feeling for Brett - for how he was when around his sister, for how he was when he was with strangers or with people he didn’t like.
For example, you need a Stiles who’s worried about his dad. Find the scenes when the sheriff is in the hospital or in danger. What does Stiles do? How does he talk? He’s oddly quiet when alone, often has his hands somewhere near his face or mouth as if he’s prepared to hold in a scream. He’s also lashing out because his worry stops him from thinking straight. He’s running towards his dad without looking left and right because all he thinks about is that he can’t lose his dad too. He’s an emotional rollercoaster when he’s with him after he’s out of danger but still hurt. He tends to be a bit patronising in some cases.
It also helps if you write down quotes and use them as some sort of template for your own dialogue. That’s what I did, at least. With time and as you get more familiar with the characters, it gets easier and you become much more confident!

SPN is coming to an end, season 15 will be the last one. I know the show has lasted for longer then pretty much any other TV series, but it's hard to know it will end. And I'm sure it'll be even harder to watch the series finale, and have that feeling of emptiness, of when something you really liked has ended. I'll miss Sam, Dean and, most of all, Castiel. I'll miss Destiel, the first ship I ever shipped. I'll miss Rowena and Jack. I'll miss the stories. I'll miss the cons. I'll miss the fandom.
I completely understand. It’s always hard to let go of a show you were so invested in. It feels like a part of you has died. You’ve put so much of you into that show and now saying good-bye to it is akin to losing a part of you. But as long as we remember the show, remember the characters we loved, the ships we shipped, as long as we continue to love it all even after it ends, we can still keep that part of us alive. As they said quite recently in the show, the pain of the loss is what reminds us of what we loved and had. As the old saying goes, “is it better to have loved and lost than to never loved at all?” It’s going to hurt to say good-bye to this show that I’ve stuck with for the past decade but could I imagine living a life where I never had it to begin with? No, absolutely not. In fact, this show is one of the contributing factors to why I’m even still alive today and I will always be grateful to it. The show may end, but it’ll always continue in our hearts. As long as there’s someone who remembers it, it’ll never truly be gone.
