Summary: 

Rey Kenobi spends her days trying to focus on her classes, working at the on-campus cafe to pay off her crippling student debt, and hopefully beating irritating and entitled Ben Solo in a contest for a scholarship and writing job she’s always dreamed of.

But in her free time, she’s KiraofJakku, an online writer and member of a Discord writing group, struggling to balance her college career and passion for fiction. When she finally works up the nerve to message her favorite author and fellow Discord member, KyloRen, an unlikely friendship blooms.

Ben Solo just wants to write. Not important articles or essays to change the world and win him awards like his professor and uncle, Luke, but simple stories for people to enjoy, sci-fi and fantasy epics that get nominated for book club reads. Yet, since he was born, his path has been laid out for him, to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and mother.

But when a kind and honest reader, KiraofJakku, randomly messages him, she opens up a passion and desire he never expected. For his writing, for making his own path in his life… for her.

Summary: Rey is a disgraced scullery maid longing for the duke next door, watching from afar as he picks flowers from his garden. It only takes one masquerade ball for their paths to cross and, when they do, Rey discovers that there is more to Ben Solo than meets the eye. If only he weren’t so intent on recruiting her to find the masked woman who has captured his heart. If only he knew that masked woman was her.

Excerpt (Chapter 1)

News of the upcoming masquerade ball spread across London like wildfire.

It was not every day that an eligible bachelor announced his intention to find a bride for all to hear.

As she observed the preparations from her small window, Rey could not help the pang of jealousy that settled over her heart.  Every morning she caught a glimpse of the preparations, of the countless footmen and maids scurrying from one place to the other, arms laden with trunks and fabrics.

Every morning she heard the enthusiasm of the dowager duchess echo across the garden, the elation of a mother who was pleased her son would soon find a suitable bride.

And every morning she would be reminded of just how hopeless her dreams of love and belonging truly were.

That bride, Rey knew all too well, would never be her.

Dear Diary,

I am the worst person on this planet.

Left alone in the middle of the cafeteria, Veronica looks up at the Heathers, strolling off with their chins in the air like royalty. That’s what they are, of course. People even move aside for them in the halls. The kind of royalty that beheads anyone who disagrees with them. She looks over her shoulder at Martha, who is sitting at her table, the forged note in her hand. In all the time Veronica’s known her, she’s not sure she’s ever seen Martha smile like that. Sort of breathless excitement, like she’s just stepped into fairyland. She’s practically glowing for God’s sake. Like she’s floating on air.
