Garak is from a xenophobic culture that despises outsiders and he also views sentiment as the worst of weaknesses. Julian's augment status is a massive, life-ruining secret that likely only someone as suspicious as Garak would notice.

Yet they are drawn to each other every scene they're in together. Because they just can't help it. Something compelling about what queer repression looks like in a sci fi setting.

it IS true that deep space nine is very much in conversation with the next generation and you should probably watch the latter before seeing the former to get everything it's trying to get across, but, on occasion, watching ds9 without having seen tng is extremely funny
