a subtle wink for atsumu

i feel like you'd enjoy this one (¯▿¯)

GOSH I HAD THIS I MY DRAFTS FOR FOREVER

I really loved that you suggested this with the prompts I rebloged a long while ago from you my dear

Also, this is incredibly self indulgent

Without further ado

A Subtle Wink For Atsumu

When Atsumu jokingly said to Osamu that he would meet the love of his life in his restaurant he didn't know it would be accurate

Nor when the first sight after hugging his brother and congratulating him was you, with a soft smile on your face and a dish with some snacks he hadn't seen before

He asked Osamu about the "pretty stranger with delicious sweets", which he answered with a bored look as he finished preparing the onigiris for the opening

"Her? An investor who I got the chance to make a deal with"

And while Atsumu opened his mouth again his brother answered again

"She's single if that was your question, nor that I care, she's too good for you"

The comment made Atsumu pout, and the palpitations in his heart only pushed him to prove his brother wrong.

He would be a bestman and would be taking his nieces to holidays, in no time, he'll see!

After a few chit chats with the former Inarizaki team, a tease or two by Sunarin and Aran, he decided that it was his moment to shine for your eyes only

But he had to be discreet, he still remembered how he almost made a fool of himself with his first crush (it was on 2nd grade, wanted to impress the poor girl by showing her how fast he could climb a tree, only to end up with a broken tooth)

So, he recurred to his suave persona, the one he used to innocently entertain his followers on interviews and programs

He swiftly not really walked to a place of the main hall of the restaurant so he was in front, but no so close. A good distance so your eyes would meet without interference

He listened to your conversation with Kita's granny, something about crops and the best condiments for a curry. He swore you couldn't be more perfect: kind, friendly, loves food and has a good start with his loved ones? Red thread type of thing

And by a small fraction of second your eyes met, and his initial plan of swooning you with a smirk and wink vanished on thin air.

Your features under the soft orange light of Onigiri Miya's lamps had no business being so beautiful.

He felt an uncharacteristic warm creeping on his ears, sure he took a look at you and practically heard bells, but this was almost ridiculous

He was staring, mouth almost gaping, flustered as if you were some sort of royalty

Add to that, you didn't even flinch, you just maintained your gaze on his brown eyes, a gentle smile curling on your lips

He felt like he was going to pass out

And he almost did, when you winked to him and went about your evening as if this wasn't an encounter with your future lover

Oh he was down bad

Now he just wondered what size of ring you'd be and what did you like for breakfast

The bell rang and everyone moved from where they sat with their friends back to their seats. Your desk was near the very front of the classroom, directly in front of the whiteboard. Not that you minded, it was much easier to pay attention when there weren't any large heads blocking your view of the teacher.

It was your homeroom class, and your teacher just happened to be Mr. Brook. People said he was the best teacher in the entire school next to Mr. Jinbei due to how laid-back he was. Mr. Brook may be an old man, but he had the soul of a teenager. He would laugh at your classmates' immature jokes and even make some of his own.

Mr. Jimbei, on the other hand, was an old man through and through — but that was his charm. He was sweet and thoughtful and always went out of his way to make his students feel safe and loved in their school environment. Most students in the school saw him as a parental figure.

“Class!” Mr. Brook said, trying to gather the class's attention. When nobody seemed to hear him due to their own loud chatter, he banged his cane against the floor creating a loud sound that quickly had everyone turning their head towards him.

Mr. Brook cleared his throat and smiled. “Thank you. I have a few announcements to make! So make sure to open your ears and listen. Not that mine work very well, yohohoho!” Nobody laughed in response, and the awkward silence that lingered in the air was funnier than the actual joke.

You laid your head on the desk, doodling on a piece of paper as Mr. Brook continued explaining. Frankly, it was eight in the morning and you weren’t in the mood to listen to anyone babble this early in the day. “The school rules state that everyone must at least join one club, so by the end of the week, please find a club to join. If by then you did not find one, we will put you into a club of our choice.”

“They’ll have to pay me before I do something like that,” grumbled your best friend Nami, who sat on your left. You snickered quietly to yourself and lightly smacked her arm, a signal for her to shut up. Nami smiled and shrugged in response.

“We’ll use this class period to go around and look for clubs. Pick a partner to go with,” explained Mr. Brook. You and Nami’s eyes immediately met when he said the word ‘partner.’ “Once you’ve picked a partner, come grab a paper. Write your name on it and the clubs you find interesting. You may start. Be back here by nine o’clock.”

Once Mr. Brook finished talking, students immediately stood up from their seats, grabbed their papers, and rushed out of the classroom. All of them seemed to have a particular destination in mind, like they already knew which club they wanted to join.

By the time you and Nami got up to get the papers you needed, most of the students had already left the classroom.

“So…do you know what club to join?” Nami asked. It was obvious that she didn’t know where to start. Grand Line High was known for its large selection of clubs, and they were proud of it. Whatever you were interested in, they probably had a club for — anything from drama to spanish to anime. You shake your head no in response to her question and Nami sighs.

“If I may interrupt, I’d suggest walking around the school and looking at the flyers. If you see something that sticks out to you, write it down. Though I can’t see very well, either! Yohohohoho!” Mr. Brooke says, his laugh echoing and bouncing off the walls in the now empty classroom.

You and Nami turn to look at each other and fake laugh so that your teacher wouldn’t get butt hurt.

“...Okay. Thanks, Mr. Brook. We’ll be back by nine,” you informed before grabbing Nami’s wrist and dragging her out of the classroom. Looking around, it seems like students from every class were doing this — trying to find a club, that is. The hallways were crowded and some people were standing with flyers, promoting their own.

“Let's start over there,” Nami said, pointing to a pink-haired woman. Her uniform was decorated with red and black jewelry and ghost accessories.

You shrugged. “I don’t mind.”

The both of you walked over to the woman who was holding a pink and purple flyer decorated with cute ghosts. In the very middle, there were bold words that read Ghost Hunting Club.

“Interested in joining? That’s great! My name's Perona!” The girl who you now know to be Perona twirled where she stood and smiled widely.

You gulped. She seemed to be a…character, but her heart was in the right place at the very least. You wondered how she could be so energetic this early in the morning.

"Uhm…no, we're kinda just looking around. I'd like to see what your club does, though," you awkwardly say, chuckling slightly.

"They hunt ghosts, idiot," Nami states, pointing to the very big and obvious words on the flyer.

You hush Nami, muttering a 'shut up' before turning your attention back to the matter at hand. "Sorry about her. Continue."

Perona's lips slightly dip into a frown. She brings her fist towards her face and clears her throat. "...Well, we have meetings every Thursday after school. Have you seen Ghostbusters? We're kinda like that!"

You and Nami deadpan at her comparison. There was a very obvious difference between the two — Ghostbusters had actual ghosts. But as to not be rude, you quickly revert your face back to a smile.

"We'll…keep that in mind. Thanks." You don't give Perona a chance to respond before walking off. Nami quickly followed, snickering slightly behind you.

You walked through the crowded hallways, trying to get a glance of any other clubs that looked interesting. History club, plant club, photography club, Boa Hancock fan club, Kozuki Hiyori fan club…wait, what?

"Who the hell are Boa Hancock and Kozuki Hiyori?" You grumble, looking at the men who proudly held up signs and flyers for these individuals. Actually, it's just men. No women seemed to be in those two clubs.

"The prettiest people in the school. Hiyori is a senior, and Boa graduated a while ago. Why does a fan club for her still exist?" Nami mutters, placing her hands on her hips.

"They're that pretty?" You ask, and Nami nods. Most people would be envious, but you'd much rather stick to being a background character. Having an entire fanclub dedicated to you would make you uncomfortable.

“Well, who cares. Let’s keep looking.”

In a different hallway, far away from the both of you, stood a black-haired boy with a straw hat named Luffy. By his side, an intimidating looking man with short green hair who’s name was Zoro.

“Ehhh? C’mon Zoro! Let’s make our own club! I wanna be a club leader, not a club member!” whined Luffy. He had his hands on Zoro’s broad shoulders, shaking him back and forth while jumping up and down.

“Let go of me!” grumbled Zoro, forcing Luffy’s hands off of him. He let out a sigh of relief and crossed his arms. “I don’t care what the hell you do. I’ll join the club.”

Luffy’s face brightened. “Great! Let’s make flyers!” he beamed. Before Zoro could blink, Luffy had already zoomed across the hallway and into their homeroom teachers, Mr. Jinbei, class.

Zoro groaned and ran to go catch up with Luffy, dodging the students who stood in his way in the hallway. Once he reached the doorway of the classroom, he let out a huff and placed his hands on his knees, trying to regain his breath. “You little—”

“Shut up,” Luffy said while chuckling, an innocent smile plastered on his face. Zoro was left speechless in shock, and blinked. However, he quickly regained his composure and had an even more annoyed look now, an angry vein showing on his forehead.

Mr. Jinbei laughed. These two boys were his favorite in his class. He appreciated their friendship and kindness, their nature to care for everyone, and their natural ability to bring people in — both to themselves and to each other.

“What is it this time, boys?” Mr. Jinbei asked, taking a seat on his desk chair. His desk was heavily organized. Papers that are yet to be graded were placed in a neat stack on top of the desk and a few utensils inside a cup.

In the desks top drawer, there was candy for him to pass out to students whenever they attempted to answer a question. He was mindful, and had candies of every type. Allergic to fructose? No problem, have some chocolate. Lactose intolerant? That’s fine as well, eat some gummies. Have braces? Well, take some oreos.

“We’re gonna make a club!” cheered Luffy. Zoro sighed behind him and Mr. Jinbei only smiled wider in amusement. “We needa make some flyers, though. Can we have some papers?”

Mr. Jinbei nodded and grabbed a few pieces of paper from one of the drawers in his desk, and handed them to Luffy.

“Thank you Mr. Jinbei!” Luffy said. He turned to go sit on his desk, and ushered Zoro to join him. Zoro scratched the back of his neck and walked over to Luffy, pulling up a chair and sitting beside him.

“We’re gonna make…hmmm…” Luffy paused, trying to think of a club that the school didn’t already have that he would enjoy. “An…adventure club! What do you think?”

Zoro deadpanned. “That sounds lame,” he said, and Luffy pouted in response. What the hell is even an ‘adventure club?’ Zoro laid his head on the desk beside where Luffy placed his stack of blank papers. He picked up a pen and swung it slightly from side to side, pretending it was a sword.

“It’s not lame! Let me show you my idea for a flyer or poster!” Luffy snatched the pen from Zoro’s hand and began doodling on the paper.

“Hey—!” Zoro grumbled, trying to take his pen back. He huffed out in annoyance when Luffy managed to move it out of the way every time.

“Let me draw, moron!” bickered Luffy, scooting his chair away from the mosshead. Zoro relented and stopped trying to steal the pen back, slumping into his seat. He watched silently as Luffy scribbled on the paper. Looking over, he saw his doodle so far — a very messy skull with a straw hat, just like the one Luffy had on right now. The skull was crooked and the anatomy was completely off, and Zoro couldn’t help the slight laugh that escaped his lips.

“What? Do you like it?” Luffy asked, picking up the paper and waving it back and forth. “I think it’s great! With this poster, everyone is gonna join the club!”

“I thought we were the adventure club, not the pirate-roleplay club,” Zoro joked, though he was still slightly serious about his teasing comment.

“Well, pirates have adventures, don’t they? Plus, they’re super free!” Luffy said, staring blankly at Zoro like he was stupid for even bothering to ask such an obvious question.

“...Free, huh?” Zoro mumbled, mostly to himself. When was the last time he felt free? He thinks it was back when she was alive. Now, he had a legacy to carry — a destination that he had to reach, no matter what. A path that he can’t stray off of.

“Yup, free! I wanna make the adventure club a place where everybody can be free!” Luffy announced, proudly holding up the flyer in the air.

Zoro’s face softened, though only for a fraction of a second. The softness seemed to have instead traveled to his voice, because Luffy’s face had never been so shocked when Zoro said, “I guess it does sound…kinda nice.”

Luffy’s face stayed shocked for only a little while, the furrow in his brows quickly disappearing and his lips curving up into a wide smile. “Great! So it’s settled! We’re the adventure club now! You can be the vice-leader, Zoro!”

“…Why not,” Zoro grumbled. He grunted and sat back up, stretching his arms slightly and yawning.

Now, the adventure club was created — and their task, to find more members.
