They realise they’re REALLY in love with you

I hope it’s going to be cute...don’t want it to be shit tbh

Anyway y’all aren’t dating yet in this, they just know they have a crush on you but they didn’t know they were IN love with you.

ft. Oikawa, Bokuto and Osamu

They Realise Theyre REALLY In Love With You

 -Oikawa-

They had just won their match, the last of the day. You were in the bleachers during all that time, cheering for Aoba Johsai. Oikawa was on the top of his game, all his sets and serves were on point and nobody could stop him.

He didn’t know you were watching him all day but when he saw you waiting in front of the gymnasium, he ran towards you to greet you.

“Y/n-chaan! I didn’t know you were there. Have you seen our last game?” Oikawa was excited when you nodded at him with a smile. He already knew he had a crush on you, so he didn’t really question the butterflies in his stomach.

“Yeah! It was so good, in fact I was here all day so I watched all your matches!” His eyes widened, he didn’t see you. And now he was hoping he hadn’t done anything embarassing during the day. “You were really good today, well you’re always really good but anyway. You were definitely the best setter out there though!”

(i was thinking of face and chest at the same time i wrote fest-)

His face became hotter and his heart did flips. The biy had a really warm feeling in his chest. He didn’t know it was possible to feel something that strong for somebody, it was the first time for him. Every time he looked at you, everytime you both talked, he had a smile on his face. Maybe what he felt for you wasn’t just a simple crush, he thought. You were the only girl ever that encouraged him that much with volleyball, and he was thankful. And at that moment he knew, he really fell for you.

Looking to the side, trying to hide his huge blush, he thanked you. “T-thanks, I didn’t see you today.” He was talking in a very small voice, his usual confidence all gone.

“Eh, why are you looking to the side? Oh my! Are you blushing? Haha I made you blush. That’s so cute.” Really that didn’t help him calm down.

-Bokuto-

Bokuto had another mood swing. His friends tried all they could think of but nothing worked to get him back to himself. Unfortunately for them, Akaashi wasn’t there that day so they last chance was you.

You were peacefully sitting in a bench doing your homework, headphones on, so you didn’t know what was happening with the team. It wasn’t your first time coming to watch Bokuto’s practice, in fact, you come watch it quite often and usually pay attention but that day you had a lot of work to get done.

The moment you looked up to see if everything was okay, you saw Bokuto sitting under a table that wasn’t far from a wall. You looked at the team but they just shrugged you off. He was really worrying you so you made your way over to him. Crouching down to his level.

“Hey, hey, hey.” When Bokuto heard your soft voice say his phrase, he looked up with glossy eyes and you caressed his cheek with the back of your fingers. “What happened?”

“I can’t do cross shots anymore,” he pouted, looking to the side “Akaashi’s not here to give me his tosses and even you aren’t paying attention to me.” You began to feel guilty because part of this was because of you.

“Okay listen to me.” He looks up and you take his face in your two hands on each of his cheeks. “Firstly, I’m really sorry for not watching you today, I had a lot of homework to do but I promise that from now ‘til the end of practice I’m going to watch only you.” He began to feel a little better after that but  Akaashi still wasn’t there and you personally didn’t know how to do cross shots.

“I don’t want you to watch me if I’m not able to hit cross shots, it’s humiliating.”

“Aww, Bo, you know you don’t have to be embarassed in front of me right? And even if you don’t remember how to do cross just do something else alright, I’m sure it’s going to come back naturally. And you can even become better at other things so that when Akaashi comes back, you can surprise him! So it’s a good thing he’s not here today right? Because if he was there you wouldn’t be able to surprise him next time, yeah.” After your little speech, your turn his head, which he had turned to the left, towards you so you can look at him properly. You watched him with so much care and softness that all his worries were thrown and all he could think about was how you looked like an angel at that instant.

In his heart, Bokuto was all giddy, first you tell him how you’re going to be watching only him, then you succeed to get him out of his emo mode with sincere words. He could now tell people he had experienced love, throughout you. He blushed so hard you were getting a bit worried, he only realised now the close proximity and had to restrain himself from kissing you then and there.

“So now you’re gonna go back there and show everyone who’s the best okay, my Ace.” And you calling him that was really the thing. You’re not simply his crush, you’re the first (and he hopes last) girl he fell in love with.

During the rest of practice, every time he’d hit a ball, he’d turn to you to see if you were watching and every time you cheered for him or gave him thumbs up.

At sometime, he went near Konoha and told him “I think I’m really in love with Y/N, Konoha.”

“Congrats captain.” he responded.

“Huh, for what?”

“For being the last to realise.”

-Osamu-

“Osamu!” Was what caused said boy to turn around in the halls. Once you reached him you had an excited look on your face.

“Yeah, what is it?”

“Can you teach me how you mke those onigiris? Pretty please!” When you looked at him with those eyes full of stars, how was he supposed to refuse. Not that he considered doing it in the first place?

“Yeah for sure, I don’t have practice today, ya can come over after school if ya like.” He was pretty nervous, asking the girl he likes to come at his house, even if it was to cook, was a big thing to him.

“Of course! I’m free anytime, anyway.” You tell him with that smile that never fails to make his heart flutter.

That same day, once school was over, you made your way towards his house, without waiting for Atsumu. The twin didn’t want to be disturbed by his itiot brother while he was with you.

Arriving at his house, you ask if he has some spear clothes you can borrow.

“Well, yeah, what would ya like?” Boy was internally screaming, rip Osamu.

“I already have some leggings in my bag so like a t-shirt will do. The uniform isn’t really the best outfit to be cooking you know?”

“Nah, yeah I get it don’t worry. Come with me, ya can change in my room.” And now he’s even more nervous. He gives you one of his largest t-shirts because he’s persuaded you’ll look cute as fuck in oversize clothe. Once you’re done you come down to see him already preparing the ingredients.

“Oh yer..done.” His eyes widen and a blush is threatening too creep up his face so he turns around really fastly. How can someone be this adorable and hot at the same time? At that moment, Atsumu comes back home and stumbles in the kitchen to see his brother’s face all red, turning his back from you and yourself sporting a dumbounded look.

“Ouuh, Y/n, I didn’t know ya were coming over.” He says in a singsong voice while side eyeing his brother, who glares at him in return.

“Well, I’m here! I’m trying to learn things hehe.” You replied sheepishly.

“Anyway, ‘Tsumu go away, me and Y/n are gonna make onigiris. If ya disturb us yer not getting any.” And with that, Atsumu left you both to do you work, but not without a grunt.

During all the time you were cooking and Osamu explaining , he felt like he could do this everyday of the year, and it showed on his face. Atsumu, who was watching the whole thing, had never seen his brother smile that much and be that comfortable with a girl. Sometimes when you inched to close to him, he would get flustered and Atsumu noted that, he planned on making fun of his brother when you left.

When it was time to eat, you litterally had stars in your eyes. You looked up at Osamu who looked back at you with amusement and fondness present in his eyes. “Holy shit!! This is so good! You better know one day I’ll surprise you with some that I’ll have made all by myself.”

He smiles at you and ruffles your hair. “I’ll be waiting then.” You recieved one if his rare genuine smiles so you smiled back, a soft atmosphere taking place. He had a warm feeling in his chest, his heart doing backflips and butterflies dancing everywhere in his stomach. At the sight he had before him, he realised you weren’t the girl he liked, you were the girl he was in love with. He wanted to cook with you more, spend more time with you, call you his.

Once you left, Atsumu wasted no more time in coming back to the kitchen, with the goal of teasing and annoying hisi twin. “So ‘Samu...yer in loveeeee.” He really just wanted to annoy his brother nothing serious, but he really didn’t see the answer he got coming.

“Yeah, I really am.” He replied, with a soft smile and a loving look in his eyes.

“Wait for real?”

“Don’t make me repeat myself ya dipshit!”

“Ha? What did ya just call me ya asshole!” And then they began to fight, once again.

Can We Get A Dog ? With Hq Boys

ATSUMU >> “a dog ? well we can’t have an ankle-biter, so how ‘bout a retriever ? or one of those big ones like- a great dane ?” you remained mildly surprised that he wasn’t opposing, y’know, since his volleyball career and such. oh wait, there’s no way he could be agreeing so easily without a catch. “why a big dog tsumie ?” he pulled his head back in the love-seat, sultry smirk coating his lips. “so when i’m out at a game or a practice my baby will be protected. ‘can’t trust a chihuahua to keep my princess safe.” he huffed, crossing those veiny arms comfortably. “we cannot possibly fit a dane in here atsumu ! and for goodness sakes it’s not even fair !” the setter only chortled in reply, apparently pleased with himself. “is this your way of saying no ?” you crossed your arms defiantly, mimicking the boy seconds earlier. “nah, just sayin’ what needs to be said.” he inched closer to you, leaning forwards to meet your gaze. “but seriously, can’t have anything happenin’ to my little lady now can i ?”

SAKUSA >> “.. out of all the things you could want. a car, a new bag, maybe even shoes. but a dog ?” he knitted his brows, glaring at your smug self looking all pretty in the passenger seat. “yes kiyoomi, a puppy. we’d get one that doesn’t shed, and their a really really good companion.” you pleaded, trying your hardest to form some doe eyes. he sighed heavily, placing his head on the wheel hopelessly. “i’ll think about it, but this dog .. if we get it, is going to be the most well trained dog to exist.” he furrowed, his peculiar moles shifting with his troubled facial expressions. “thank you omi—“ you hushed, giggling at that cold stare as you peppered his face with an endless flurry of kisses. “but.” he interjected, grasping your jaw lightly despite his grip seeming stern. “at least kiss me properly as a form of repayment, but that’s not all, i expect a bit more.” his eyes traveling down ever so slightly, a soft gasp escaping your lips at the bold retort. oh, repayment was an interesting way of getting his thoughts through to you.

SUNA >> “why not a baby ?” he glanced up from his phone at the restaurants venue, expression unwavering when you proceed to choke on your food. “rinnie, c’mon.” you ushered quickly, patting your chest hurriedly. well, it was a futile attempt to calm down your racing heart. the things he did to you. if only he knew. however, it appeared he wasn’t joking this time. that poker face continuing to make you palpitate. biting your lip as you fiddled with the hem of your top. “think of a dog-a puppy as a start, then we can think of a baby. but with you playing for the paper mills.. it’s a lot to work with rinnie.” suna swirled the liquid in his glass, that sly grin parting ways once almond orbs met yours competitively. “why a start ? this baby can be our start and to be honest—i don’t know if i can wait in the long run sweetheart.” rising to his feet, he called to the waiter, handing his card easily with a business-oriented smile before slipping his cold fingers between yours. “let’s make tonight our start, shall we ?”

AKAASHI >> “mm .. that’d be cute. we could dress them in sweaters in the winter and celebrate their birthday.” he hummed, hands kneading the shampoo into your hair. today was a showering-together day. a day akaashi liked to recall as a best-of-all day. a day where he could get to experience the euphoric sensations of a warm shower with you, and save on the water bill at the same time. “really ? i thought you’d object the idea.” you chuckled, his hands leaving a satisfied sound rolling off your tongue. he pondered on the thought as you both bathed, transitioning to scrubbing your back ( while leaving kisses on your shoulders to simper at the goosebumps tracking afterwards ) instead. “what would you name them ?” you inquired, turning your head to watch him thoughtfully. “olive.” he replied nonchalantly, confused at your beaming face. “that is the most akaashi-thing i’ve ever heard you say.” — “olive ?” — “there it is again !”

description: In which Y/n is a new addition to Karasuno’s Girl’s Volleyball Club

THIS IS REALLY JUST LIKE...A TEST RUN..FOR THIS STORY CUZ I DONT THINK IM THAT GREAT AT WRITING and i feel like people wont really like it. so....yeah.

a/n: ok so, I’ve been thinking of this concept so much lately. It started off as just as a nice story to play in my head, but I really wanted to see if I could write it down. So, I felt like I haven’t really seen a lot of imagines or content on the girl’s volleyball club and I felt like it would be cool to explore that side. First things first, I am raised in California. Thus, I am quite incompetent in knowledge about Japan schooling. All my knowledge is really from me googling stuff and ofc, watching haikyuu. With that said, if I made a mistake on the take of Japan schooling, I do not mean to cause any offense. This is solely for entertainment purposes. With that said, I do not own the characters of haikyuu. However, there are some characters I made up with my own imagination. In addition, this is an “x reader” sort of story but I will be defining some of her characteristics so I am sorry if it hinders you from imagining its you. Finally, I am not that good at writing stories lol but im trying. I hope you enjoy.

I hate introductions. Y/n thought to herself as she sat back down in her seat after standing in front of the class, stating her name and her previous school. Her gaze shifted towards the window. The sun was out and shining and she had the perfect view of the gymnasium. Oh how she just wanted to get up from her uncomfy chair and leave the boring lecture and head towards the gym.

It was the first day of school for Y/n at Karasuno High. It’s not like she started in the middle of the semester, no, she was just about a month late into the school year. With her work ethic, she didn’t feel any pressure in order to catch up with everyone else. She knew she would get it done.

It’s not really her fault she came a bit late into the school year either. Her dad’s job required a small move, not that she was complaining. She didn’t really feel tied down at her old high school because: she wasn’t there for that long and she didn’t really make any friends, despite joining a sport.

It’s not that she didn’t want to make friends. It seems that her track record, or the lack thereof, from junior high with meeting new people has left an imprint on her.

Y/n looks down at the worksheet that was passed out in the beginning of class. The assignment was already completed due to Y/n’s eagerness to finish any homework that would take away time from her main passion.

Some people would say she was obsessed. Some would say dedicated. She simply sees volleyball as an opportunity. The class bell rings, signaling for lunch. Before she realizes it, she is walking towards the gym, in which she would meet the girl’s volleyball captain. As she is switching shoes, she can hear screaming from inside.

“-What did I tell you about touching my onigiri! You are going to pay for that!” “I really didn’t mean it this time, I promise! I didn’t know it was yours!” The voices were muffled, yet she was still able to hear the sincerity in both of the voices. Y/n was about to open the gymnasium’s door when the door swung open by a tall pink-haired girl. She was being chased by another tall girl with long blonde hair, but she was a bit shorter than the pink one. Before Y/n could process stepping aside because it seemed the pink-haired girl had no inclination in stopping, she was tumbled to the ground by the girl who she can only guess took an onigiri without permission. As well, the blonde clumsily tripped and fell on top of the two.

“You idiots! Will you stop it! We already told you, we got a guest coming today and we want to make a good first impression!” A stern voice called out inside the gym.

“Um, Moa-san, I think our wishes are already soiled.” Another voice chimed in from the gym.

“Wha- You dumbasses! Hey, are you okay?” A girl with dirty blonde hair came out from the entrance and offered a hand towards Y/n as the two perpetrators started to get up with apologies towards Y/n.

“Yeah, I am good.” Despite just being tackled to the ground, Y/n remains as neutral as ever.

“Aren’t you going to ask if we are okay?” The energetic, pink haired spoke.

“As if I care when you collide into our guest! You really need to be more cautious, Etsuko!” She barked. “I am Aihara Moa. Pleasure to meet you. You’re the first year that turned that application past the deadline, right?” she states more calmly than her previous statement.

“Pleasure is all mine. And, yes. Sorry for the inconvenience.” Y/n states with quite the unfazed face.

Does this kid crack a smile once in a while? Moa asked in her mind. She seems quite different than the other first years we have. Her thoughts continue.

“I am Oba Yuma and this is Morita Etsuko.” Yuma, who had the pretty, long blonde hair, spoke with a warm smile.

“Why did you introduce me?! I wanted to have a cool introduction!” Etsuko huffed with a small pout.

“Well, it’s not like you can recover your so-called ‘cool introduction’ from that full-body collision.” Yuma smoothly replied. Etsuko’s eyes widened and cheeks heated up as she couldn’t come up with a sly comeback to her logic.

“You guys are just lucky that Rinko isn’t here to scold you.” Moa warned the 2 first years. With the mention of the scary third year that wasn’t even the captain, yet she reigned supreme in the disciplinary department, they shivered at the thought of the punishment.

As Y/n stepped further into the big, bright court, she spotted that she could only assume was the captain as she looked so appalled at what happened.

“Hello, you must be Michimiya Yui.” Y/n knew she had to say something to pull the worried captain from her thoughts.

“Hi! Yes, that’s me! I am so sorry for those two. I would say they aren’t always like that, but I don’t want to lie to a potential teammate.” Yui spoke with an uneasy smile.

Yuma and Etsuko’s interests peaked when they heard “a potential teammate” come out of their captains' mouths. They were the only first years on the team, so the thought of another person in the same boat as them made them excited and wanted to join the conversation. The two first years gave each other a look and started to walk towards Yui and hopefully their new friend. However, before they could even be in ear-shot, the pair got pulled away by Sasaki Chizuru, another third year.

“Oh, no. Don’t think you will be bombarding her with questions right off the bat.” She bluntly states.

“Oh, c’mon Sasaki, aren’t you curious about her? Like how did she get into volleyball? Or even, is she a beginner? Or maybe she is an absolute monster who dominates the court!” Etsuko proclaimed as her mind went too fast for her mouth to follow.

“As of right now, it’s not our business. All we can do, and are allowed to do”, emphasizing the word ‘allowed’, “is to watch from the sidelines and quietly eat our lunches.” Chizuru instructed the first years and pointed at the far corner of the gym.

Despite her own words, Chizuru couldn’t help but glance at Y/n and wonder the same things that the first year questioned. At face value, Y/n was quite the enigma. The 2 first years gave a pout, but headed towards their desired location.

“So, you came from Niiyama Girls' High? That’s a really good school for volleyball. What made you come to Karasuno?” Yui asked.

“It was the most ideal school in terms of my dad’s work location.” Y/n states plainly. She didn’t technically lie. Well, it was an ideal school in terms to the proximity to her new apartment, but that was not the only reason. She saw videos of their interhigh-prelims last year and to be quite frank, Y/n was not entirely impressed with the state of their team. However, she knew that this meant there was room to grow for them. She knew very well that she could have gone to Shiratorizawa and joined their girls’ volleyball club. Objectively, with her skill set, Shiratorizawa made sense. Nonetheless, Y/n didn’t know what compelled her to pick this one. She convinced herself it was because she is a sucker for rooting the underdog.

Does this kid show any emotion? Yui thought in her mind. It’s like nothing affects her. Her thoughts continued.

“How long have you been playing volleyball?” Yui curiously asked.

“Since the 2nd grade.” Y/n quickly states. As much as she wasn’t showing it, she was just itching to show what she can do. The court was right there in front of her, after all.

“That’s impressive, alright, well if you’re comfortable with it, I’d love to see some serves and sets from you. After school, we can hold a three on three since we all aren’t really in the right clothes to play.”

“Sounds good.” To say Y/n was excited would be an understatement. As she removed her cream sweater, she could feel a set of eyes burning a hole on her back. She turned around to put her sweater down and realized that she was wrong. It wasn’t one pair of eyes, it was all of them, curious to see how good she really is. She could feel her heart pounding at the thought of holding everyone’s attention. She knew if she let her mind continue, the nerves would get to her and hinder her performance. She took deep breaths and started to quietly humm a song that was previously playing on her phone from her morning ride to school.

Yui passed a volleyball to her and ran to the other side of the net, and yelled, “Let’s see what ya got!”

Y/n carried herself behind the serve line, taking one deep breath to keep her hands from shaking. With that exhale, she opened her eyes and focused her sights on Yui. The captain wouldn’t admit it, but she could already feel herself sweating under the first year’s gaze.

She looks so intimidating. I’m not even on the court, yet I’m scared. Yuma viewed Y/n’s determined look. For Y/n, it was as if everything crumbled away and the only thing remained was the court. She starts her run up.

A jump serve?! Yuma, Etsuko, and Chizuru incredulously thought simultaneously with eyes basically bugging out of their head. They watch in amazement as she jumps with severe height and reeled her arm back. After that, all that could be sensed was a loud snap and then the ball smacked the ground next to the wide-eyed captain. The impact from the ball gave a small breeze through Yui’s short hair. The deafening silence that followed her serve filled the room in an instant. Those watching from the sidelines had to pick up their jaws from the floor.

“She’s a first year?! Are you sure?!” Etsuko broke the silence with her curiosity getting the best of her.

“Boke Etsuko! That was already clarified, don’t make her repeat herself!” Yuma scolded. While Yui read your capabilities on your application form, it was nothing like actually being on the receiving end in real time.

“That’s quite a serve she got in her arsenal.” A voice startled the three high school students, sitting on the sidelines. Etsuko and Yuma were the most startled, but Chizuru was quite used to her fellow classmates popping in every now and then.

“Seriously, Sudou. We have to put a bell on you or something because I don’t think my heart can take any of your surprise entrances.” Sudou Rinko only slyly chuckles at Etsuko remark. She looks over at Y/n and Yui on the court.

“Did you guys see the precision on that serve?” Rinko posed to the other three sitting on the ground, munching on their lunch.

“Well, not really, but it landed, like, near Michimiya, right?” Etsuko tries to come up with the answer that Rinko was looking for.

“It landed right next to her left foot. I think that pipsqueak is able to aim her serve.”

“What?! That’s insane.”

“Yeah, insane, but not impossible.”

“With her, maybe we can win more games!”

“Don’t get your hopes up, Etsuko, a team is only good if everyone is giving their all.” Yuma reminds. “After all, there’s not only one person on the court, there’s six.”

“I heard she came from Niiyama Girls' High” Sudou stated as she reverted her gaze back to her fellow teammates. They stared at her after she gave more information on the stranger in their gym.

“Why would she come to Karasuno then?” Yuma asked honestly. She knew that her team had strengths, but she also knew that other teams had strengths that overpowered them.

“How could you diss your own school like that?” Etsuko was almost angry at how her teammate was treating their school. She always was the one to take pride in everything she does.

“No, that’s a valid question. It makes sense that a player with her caliber would be well-suited in a powerhouse school.” Rinko supported Yuma in her question. All four look ahead and see that Y/n is beginning to set for Yui.

“Her precision and accuracy are so on point, it almost makes me sick.” Yuma commented on how your form for setting only held the necessities. Y/n stepped with purpose, and it showed as she passed a nice set for Yui, allowing her to have optimal choices in where she can place her spike.

so um, that’s really all i got haha I started this like yesterday instead of doing hw so yeah. Feedback and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. So, did u like it? Did u hate it? Are u confused by it? lol yeah okie bye

pilot (~revised~)

Kageyama x f!reader

may contain spoilers!

description: In which Y/n is a new addition to Karasuno’s Girl’s Volleyball Club

warning: I’m sure there are some curse words in there.

A/N: yeah so there is another version of this on my blog, but that was really like a test run/rough draft, so here is the revised one that I like better and I added more scenes. ALSO, just ask if you wanna be added to like a taglist. I already stated this in the previous pilot post i will state it again to make sure.

This started off as just as a nice story to play in my head, but I really wanted to see if I could write it down. First things first, I am raised in California.

The two first years gave each other a look and started to walk towards Yui, and hopefully their new friend.

It was an ideal school in terms to the proximity to her new apartment, but that was not the only reason. She saw videos of their interhigh-prelims last year and to be quite frank, Y/n was not entirely impressed with the state of their team. However, she knew that this meant there was room to grow for them. She knew very well that she could have gone to Shiratorizawa and joined their girls’ volleyball.

Etsuko and Yuma were the most startled, but Chizuru was quite used to her fellow classmate popping in every now and then.

“I heard she came from Niiyama Girls' High.” Sudou stated as she reverted her gaze back to her fellow teammates.

The bell rang, ending lunch. Etsuko couldn’t wait for practice. She wanted to play against Y/n on the three on three. As for Yuma, she always wanted to learn how to set, but with her grand height, most people would assume she would be great as a spiker. Everyone started to pack their belongings up, heading to their respected classes. Y/n started to head towards class 1-5. Etsuko and Yuma caught up with Y/n, standing on the sides of her.

“Do you guys need something?” Y/n poses the question bluntly, yet she was quite startled. Y/n never expected to have people purposefully come up to her.

“Yeah, where did you learn to serve like that? It’s crazy!” Etsuko praises.

“Don’t you remember what Sasaki said? Don’t crowd her with questions, dumbass!” Yuma scolded, which Etsuko already had an irritated look on her face.

“It’s only one question! It’s not like she’s going to fall apart by it, and I just wanna know because I want be strong as well!” Etsuko’s vain on her forehead looked like it was having a field day.

“Yeah, like that would ever happen.” Yuma remarks.

“What did you just say?! I’m going to make you eat your words!”

“Ooo Frenchie has me shaking in my boots” Yuma taunts with the famous pink haired character from Grease. Etsuko started to jump at Yuma. Because Y/n was between them, she raised an arm.

“Please do not fight, you may cause a ruckus.” Y/n chimed in. The first years returned to their previous spots. Etsuko huffed a little and crossed her arms and slightly turned her head away.

“So, what class are you in? I am in class 1-4. I don’t think I have seen you in the hallways.” Yuma tries to maneuver the conversation to something other than volleyball. Y/n was honestly confused. It’s been awhile when someone her age, someone in her grade asked her a genuine question about herself. She almost felt it was some sort of joke.

“Um, I have class 1-5. And that’s because today’s my first day. Transferred a bit late.” Y/n had pauses in between her words, still not used to people going out of their way to talk to her.

“Woah! You must be pretty smart! That’s a college-prep class, right?” Yuma genuinely comments with a warm smile. Y/n nods, complements on stuff other than volleyball made Y/n short-circuit. The trio walks inside the main school building, the air condition changing the atmosphere. Y/n didn’t notice, but she received some stares from other students as the three walk through hallways. While Y/n remained oblivious, Yuma and Etsuko realized immediately and looked at each other with perplexed looks, not because of the stares that were directed towards you, but the fact that you seemed unfazed by it.

“Woah, who is that? She’s really pretty.” a student spoke to their friend.

“She’s new I’m pretty sure.” another commented.

“I heard she has a famous dad. She’s like loaded.”

“I wonder if she’s taken”

“I heard she came from California.”

“Someone told me she’s snooty.”

“Her looks certainly make up for it”

“Why is she hanging out with those weird volleyball girls?”

Etsuko physically jolted at that last comment, anyone can physically see the irritation on her face. She turned her head towards the voice of the last comment, wanting to immediately put them in their place. On the other hand, Y/n was too much in her head at the moment.

Shoot, I haven’t asked them a question. Well, that’s what I should do, right? That’s what friends do? Wait, we aren’t even friends, I just met them. They probably think I’m weird. Oh great, now I haven’t said anything for the past 3 minutes. They probably think I don’t like them. Y/n felt that this was weird foreign territory.

“So, what’s your favorite subject?” Y/n broke the silence, just wanting to say anything to make sure that her two future teammates knew that she was still invested in this conversation.

Are you serious, Y/n?! No one wants to talk about school, that’s so lame! They probably think you’re a smart ass. Uhg. You’re terrible at this. Y/n wanted to groan and bow her head in shame, but all she could do is hold her head high and follow through with her question.

“I like math, and you won’t get an actual subject out of Etsuko, she will probably say something stupid like lunch.” Yuma answered.

“Hey! Why do you keep answering for me?! I am fully capable of answering!” Etsuko barked at her snarky teammate.

“Yeah, your English grade can clearly vouch for you.” Yuma sarcastically stated. Etsuko looked like all the blood from her face left, looking quite pale due to her not so great English grade. Y/n didn’t realize it, but a small smile was on her face as she saw the two interact.

“Well, this is my stop, And, Etsuko, your stop was awhile ago.” Yuma stated as she didn’t really know if she should just send a wave your way or a handshake because Y/n seemed so formal. She settled with a pat on the back. Etsuko copied Yuma, but her pat was a bit more forceful and it really just turned into a smack. Y/n didn’t say anything, but noted that Etsuko has one hell of an arm on her.

“I already knew that! I wanted to talk to our new friend!” Etsuko looked like she was going to cross her arms and stomp her foot like a small child throwing a tantrum. Y/n stopped her walking when she heard the word “friend” come out of Etsuko’s mouth. Y/n turned to look at Etsuko and Yuma with a surprised look. Etsuko and Yuma instinctively thought they misspoke and perhaps angered you.

“We’re friends?” Y/n held a pause between the two words. Her incredulous face kept switching eye contact between the 2 first years in front of her. “You don’t even know if I will be your teammate yet.” Y/n stated. Etsuko bursted out in laughter and it caused Y/n’s face to turn beet red, embarrassed. Yuma’s face looked like she wanted to backhand Etsuko, but before she could, Etsuko spoke “You don’t have to be our teammate for us to be friends! There isn’t criteria the last time I checked to be friends. Besides, you’re really cool!”

Yuma retracted her arm, despite Etsuko being a dumbass, she somehow always knew what to say in awkward situations. Y/n felt something that spread through her chest. It was a warm, fuzzy feeling. Etsuko and Yuma bid there goodbye’s to Y/n, leaving her to get to her class. The feeling in her chest was not new, it’s just a feeling that she has not felt in a long time.

Y/n sat down in her seat and pulled out her notebook. Everyone started to take their seats. Right before the teacher reached to close the door, a short girl with a small blue hair tie in her short blonde hair just managed to slip through the door. She was out of breath and sweaty, muttering an apology and quickly sat at her desk, which was coincidentally on Y/n’s left side. The teacher began lecturing, instructing to open a page in their textbook.

The end of the school day approached rather quickly. Because of her most recent interaction with Etsuko and Yuma, she couldn’t wait for the three on three. Specifically, who would she be playing against. While thinking of possible offense moves to coordinate, Y/n grabs her volleyball bag from her locker and makes her way to the girl’s gym. The door was already open and she peaked through to make sure there was no way she will be tackled again. She makes eye contact with a girl with short black hair, which she vaguely remembers as Sudou Rinko.

“Hello! I’m sorry I am a bit early, I just wanted to get a head start in warming up because I do take awhile for those.” Y/n quickly explains with a hint of timidness.

“That’s alright! I already setted up the net so you’re welcome to warm up in here or outside, whichever you prefer.” Sudou stated, making sure she didn’t seem to overbearing as others perceive her to be.

“Okay, thank you. I do prefer outside.” As much as Y/n’s face held a deadpan look, she was nervous in front of the third year. She didn’t know if she could just head out or bow. Unfortunately, she went with the latter. Sudou cheeks turned red. She didn’t really expect that, I mean in her eyes, she’s just a third year. But, your formality was appreciated.

“Heh, no need to be so formal. I’ve seen what you can do even without warming up, and we would be lucky to have you on our team.” Sudou reassured.

Now it was Y/n’s turn to turn slightly red. She’s new to accepting genuine compliments. So, all she did was a weird salute with a firm nod of her head, and headed out.

That kid has an interesting way of interacting with people. Sudou thought to herself. Hopefully, she’ll be able to open up more. Sudou busied herself by warming up as well.

In the meantime, Y/n found a spot near the side of the gym where there were no trees and the sun just perfectly drenched the scenery with natural light. It was as if the sun placed a golden film over everything and settled on a calm atmosphere. Here, Y/n began stretching.

After awhile, Y/n was tossing a volleyball up in the air, getting comfortable with how the ball fit perfectly in her hands as she set it in the air. After a couple of sets, she got into the rhythm of bumping, setting, and spiking against a wall. While she was focused on the ball, out of her peripheral vision, she notices someone. After a spike, rather than bumping it, she catches it.

“If you are going to stare any longer, I expect a name out of you.” Y/n stated with a calm yet stern tone while still staring at the wall in front of her.

“I-I’m sorry. You just seem so focused.” The stranger spoke.

Y/n closes her eyes, when she opens them, she turns to look at the stranger. He’s tall, way taller than her. He’s got a beard and his hair is pulled into a tight bun. If Y/n didn’t know any better, she would have assumed he was a teacher, but he was wearing a school uniform after all. With her eyes set on him, it was as if the guy visibly shook in fear and eyes widened.

“Well, you have to be, in an actual game of course.” Y/n responded.

“You play?” The mysterious guy asks. He does have a calming voice for someone who looks like the opposite.

“In order for me to answer, you should give me your name. I’ve been taught to not talk to strangers.”

“Oh r-right. I’m Azumane Asahi.”

There was a beat of silence as Y/n kept staring at him, deciding how she should approach this conversation. In Asahi’s eyes, he thought she was judging him and he started to wonder why didn’t he just mind his own business.

“Yes, I play.” Y/n answered his previous question. Asahi perked up at her answer like a little puppy.

“You seem like you’re really dedicated.” Asahi offered his observation to her. Y/n chuckles. Asahi’s eyes widened once more at the sudden reaction out of the girl.

“I’m guessing you play as well.” Asahi was dumbfounded at your observation. He was scared at how you were able to pick that up quickly.

“H-how did you-”

“Someone who is able to easily recognize the dedication in one person, also finds that same dedication within themselves”

Damn, this girl is wise. Asahi thought.

“However, volleyball was just a guess.” Y/n continued. “And I was lucky enough to be right.”

“Well, I don’t know about that.”

Y/n looked at him again. Y/n wasn’t one to let someone divulge into their personal life. Mainly because no one really came up to her for advice since she was quite the nonchalant person. However, if today is any indication, it seems her social interaction skills has been given a second shot. Y/n analyzed Asahi’s troubled face.

“Are you having an internal battle?”

How unfortunate that you phrased it that way, Y/n. Jeez. You can be so formal sometimes. Y/n scolded herself.

“Yeah, of some sorts.” Asahi responded with a puzzling look at the ground.

“About volleyball?” Y/n specified.

“Uh, yeah.” he reluctantly responded.

“What’s up?” Y/n knew that was more informal and she mentally high-fived herself for talking like a normal teenager.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Yeah”

“Have you ever not wanted to do something because you failed at it?”

A beat of silence.

“No.” Y/n said confidently. However, she knew what he was trying to ask, so she added, “But, I’ve felt frustrated at it before.”

“Isn’t that the same thing?”

“Well, tell me, can you be frustrated at something yet you want keep trying it?”

Asahi didn’t respond, just thinking of what she said.

“The answer is yes, by the way. Volleyball is a sport where you are constantly improving yourself, just like any other sport really.” Y/n started to blabber on. “Volleyball provides that uncomfortable tension of not being enough. For some people, it discourages them completely, leaving them to quit or be stagnant. But, there are rare cases where the person is strongly encouraged by it. Those are the people who really do succeed.”

Asahi was deep in thought as he processed your words. As Y/n looks at Asahi, he looks like he’s going to hurt himself if he thinks any harder.

“Here, stand over there. Let me set for you.” Y/n commanded. Asahi Looks up, “h-how did you know I spike?” At this point, he thought you were some sort of psychic.

Y/n shrugs, “Only an ace would have that mindset and label a simple mistake as a “failure”. You feel like you’re whole team depends on you, right?” Asahi nods with shame. “Well, I think you need to understand that the other 5 people on your side have their own jobs as well. Sure, they know that you are capable of grabbing a point, but that’s because they are supporting you in the process.”

Asahi is quite overwhelmed at all the truth you are speaking, but it makes sense to him. Asahi obeys and walks where you pointed to.

“Now, run up like you are going to spike. You’re job is to knock,” Y/n grabs an apple from her lunch box, “this off of this trashcan.” Y/n places the apple on the the tin can and positions it in the way where a blocker would be in terms of where Asahi is standing. “Imagine this,” she draws a line in the dirt with her foot, “is the net. And, I don’t doubt that you are able to hit over the net.”

“O-oh I don’t know, you see, I haven’t really-”

“Just do it.” Y/n cuts him off with a sigh. Asahi gulps and catches the ball from Y/n.

He takes a deep breathe in. And a deep breathe out. He tosses the ball to you. Of course, Y/n perfectly sets the ball for him.

She notices after those deep breathes, it seems Asahi is a completely different person. He looks more focused and confident. His eyes are concentrated on the ball.

After the set, Y/n quickly looks over at the tin trashcan. And lo and behold, her apple is now on the dirt floor. Y/n smiles fondly. Asahi carries the most precious smile on his face.

“Now, how did that feel?” Y/n questions him.

“Makes me want to do another.” Asahi was staring at his hand as if the key to life was written on his hand. He then looked over at Y/n with a glint of inspiration in his eyes.

“The boys volleyball team should still be practicing, right? I still have to start my own practice.” Y/n shares a soft smile, which she hasn’t done in awhile. Asahi reverts back to a nervous state. Y/n’s guessing there is some awkward tension between that relationship.

“Just go to them. It never hurts to just try, right?” Y/n tries her best to be encouraging, but not too pushy.

“I-I don’t know I left them so suddenly-”

“Just go! Or else.” Y/n knew she shouldn’t use fear as a tactic to push him, but to be quite frank, it’s useful in these rare occasions. Asahi fervently nods, he didn’t want to hear what came after ‘what else’ so he quickly grabs his bag and starts his jog to the boy’s gym.

“Oh wait! What’s your name?” Asahi was already a bit far, so she had to yell, “Y/n! Good luck!” She cups her mouth as if that will totally help her voice travel to him. “Well, thank you, Y/n!”

Y/n picks up her things and heads towards the gym, where she has her own journey to embark on.

Kageyama x f!reader may contain spoilers! description: In which Y/n is a new addition to Karasuno’s Girl’s Volleyball Club warning: I’m sure

a/n: Okay! here is the next episode! Idk why but I like naming these episodes. Also, if you haven’t noticed, I’m trying to keep in the timeline as season 1. Hopefully that’s not going to be a pain in the ass later, but yeah! I hope you enjoy!

Y/n approached the gym and entered by sliding the steel door. The whole team was there and they were finishing warming up with serves. Everyone was mostly doing overhand serves. But what caught Y/n’s eyes was Etsuko. She had her eyes closed and taking deep breathes. Y/n slightly tilts her head to the side.

What is she doing? Y/n ponders. Yuma sees Y/n and approaches her. She sees how Y/n is staring at Etsuko.

“She can do a jump serve?” Y/n watches as Etsuko starts a run up. The ball hit the middle of the net.

The whole team erupts in fits of laughter.

“No, she can’t.” Yuma clarifies.

“Woah, Etsuko, you’re gonna give Y/n a run for her money!” Rinko exclaimed and continued to chuckle with the other third years. Other players snicker and make some harmless, little jokes.

“Oh, please. At least I am trying!” Etsuko huffs in protest to the teasing. Y/n approaches Etsuko.

‘You’re right. It’s good that you’re trying. The toss was great, the timing was off, but that’s what practice is for.” Y/n says honestly.

Etsuko was not really expecting Y/n’s hard-hitting honesty but it was a breathe of fresh air from the teasing. She takes a long look at Y/n, for a teenager, she sure is mature.

Nonethless, you’re flattery made her cheeks tinge with red, “I was really just copying what you did earlier.” She says shyly.

At this, Y/n eyes widened, “Do I really look that serious?!” She had never really paid any attention to what she might look like towards others while she is in play. Up until now, she only focused on the game because, well, that’s just how she plays. Etsuko and Yuma chuckle at Y/n’s reaction.

“Yeah, it was as if your looks could kill.” The 3 first years turn to the voice to see the captain, Michimiya Yui, “so, I hope you’re all warmed up cause we will be starting the three on three.”

“Right, who will be playing?” Y/n inquires.

“I was thinking Moe and Yuma will be on your team. Then, the opposing team will consist of Aoki, Yua, and I.” Y/n nods at the captains words.

“Wait, WHAT?!” everyone turned to Etsuko’s outburst.

“Oh no.” Yuma quietly mumbles.

“I wanted to play in the three on three!” Etsuko almost sounded like a child that was ready to throw a tantrum. She had her arms crossed, thinking of a plan to get her way somehow. “What about we make it more interesting. The first years versus the third years.” She smirks.

“Etsuko, you turd, don’t go against the captain!” Yuma bonks Etsuko’s heads. Etsuko instinctively held her head and dramatically fell to the ground, “OW! You know my head’s sensitive”, she pouts.

Yui laughs at the interaction and starts to think about her offer. Sudou approaches Yui, “You aren’t actually thinking about that as an actual option, right?”

Yui smiles, “I mean, why not? I already know Y/n is an exceptional player. This three on three really serves as a nice introduction through friendly competition.”

Sudou thinks over Yui’s words, “You aren’t wrong.” She looks over at the first years. All three of them. “What about we add to your idea, Etsuko. Whichever team loses has to be the other team’s servants for,” Sudou puts her hand on her chin and looks up, acting like she is in a real deep thought, “three whole weeks”.

“THREE WHOLE WEEKS?!” Etsuko begins to regret opening her mouth.

“What would we have to do?” Yuma almost didn’t want to ask, afraid of the severity of the word ‘servant’.

“Oh, just the simple, worshiping the ground they walk on, get them or make food when they ask, and help them with virtually anything if they ask a favor.” Sudou smirks.

All the previous color on Etsuko and Yuma’s face were practically gone, looking like they are going to faint. Y/n looks at their state worriedly, How little do you think of yourselves?! You guys can’t be that bad, right? Y/n turns to look at the 2nd years and some are already on their knees, hands together. They’re praying for us?! Y/n gulps.

Y/n reverts her gaze back at Sudou Rinko, the third year. Her classic, neutral face making a comeback as she takes a calming breathe. This girl sure knows how to think of a punishment.

“You’re on.” Y/n holds out her hand. Rinko firmly shakes your hand. She was pleasantly surprised by the guts that Y/n has for not backing down to a challenge.

“Splendid. So, it will be you three, against Mao, Yui, and Chizuru.” All the girls who weren’t playing in the three on three were buzzing with excitement as they took their seats on the sidelines. They made small talk such as conversing on who they think will win.

“Oi, get up. We’re going to start.” Y/n ordered the two first years. Both of them grudgingly got up and stood in front of Y/n.

“Okay, so what can you tell me about Mao and Chizuru?”

The pair looked at each other as if they were talking with their eyes, deciding on who should talk first.

Etsuko scratched her head, “Yeah, um. I don’t really know what to tell you. I don’t really know how to, like, analyze people like you probably do.”

Y/n was mentally pinching the bridge of her nose.

“I know Chizuru has been really working on her receives.” Yuma chimes in. “As for Mao, well, she’s the tallest person on our team, so I’m guessing her blocks and spikes will be difficult to pick up.”

Y/n nods. Interestingly enough, Y/n did not ask the worried pair this question for the actual information they would give her. She asked the question to see how well her current teammates analyze their opponent from prior knowledge.

Y/n has seen the third years play. At times they lacked the spirit and in some areas, the technique, to carry through with both defense and offense, which is coincidentally really important. As third years, they do serve as an example for the grades below them. So, if they are lacking, it’s only probable that the team will follow behind.

Only in some spur-of-the-moment instances she would see the fire ignite within them, but that was really it. While there are many holes in their team, it doesn’t mean they are hopeless.

“Wait, why didn’t you ask anything about Captain Yui?” Etsuko jumped back into the conversation.

“Well, I already saw how she spiked when I sent some sets her way. She’s got power and stamina backing her up, but she is lacking in technique and in game sense, so that will give us some points when blocking.” Etsuko and Yuma looked at each other as Y/n kept talking about what she has observed over the limited time she has been in the gym. They were plainly shocked at how observant Y/n is and can only imagine what she thinks of them.

“Okay, let’s go out there and have fun, guys.” Despite the literal meaning of Y/n’s statement. Her tone and face did not match, so it really just was uneasy for Etsuko and Yuma to experience as Y/n smacked their backs before walking towards where she would start in the game.

“Would you guys want to receive?” Yui asks as she grabs a volleyball.

“Yeah, we’ll receive.” Y/n confirmed, getting into position.

Yui send a overhand serve there way. Etsuko receives it.

“It’s short, sorry!” Etsuko calls out

Y/n runs under the ball, “got it!” And lifts the ball towards, “Yuma!” near the net.

Yuma jumps to spike, however Mao is there, ready to block. They make solid eye-contact that felt like years to Yuma, It’s as if she’s piercing my soul with her eyes. Unfortunately, Yuma got psyched out and almost forgot to make contact with the ball. Yuma ends up accidentally just lifting the ball right over Mao’s block, committing to a feint.

Yui flies towards the ground with her left arm stretched out, she’s able to put the ball in the air.

“Chizuru!” The timid third year bumps it towards the net. Y/n makes a judgment call.

“It’s over the net.” Other players would probably yell that comment, but Y/n never really saw the point in yelling when her teammates are merely a couple feet away from her. Her pain level of volume almost made her two other teammates more on edge due to the unfamiliarity of it, rather than someone screaming the comment.

As Y/n suspected, the ball just barely made it over the net.

“Again!” Mao yells as she bumps it towards Y/n.

With a side glance, Y/n notices that Yui and Mao are guarding Yuma. She takes a quick look to Etsuko and mentally smirked, no blockers, Y/n needed to somehow tell Etsuko without giving it away because with Yui’s speed, she will definitely be able to retrieve it.

It was merely seconds, but Y/n stared Etsuko down and gave a slight lift of her chin in an upwards direction, hoping that Etsuko can decode it and define it as, jump.

Relying on her instincts, Etsuko miraculously picked up what Y/n was getting at. At least, she thinks.

That nod was for me, right? I think she wants me to spike it from where I am. Oh, but I’m a bit far from the net. I’ve only done spikes close to the net because I’m scared of it not going over. Despite Yuma insisting on how Etsuko never thinks before she acts, Etsuko is quite the overthinker.

The thing was, Yuma was confident that you were going to send the ball her way. After all, according to Yuma’s knowledge, Estuko typically put too much power into her spikes, sending them out of bounds. She thought Y/n would pick up on this on how over-zealous she is about practically anything. Thus, Yuma started her run up.

We’ve got you now, Yui and Mao solely focusing on Yuma, making sure they jump at the correct time.

Despite their efforts in blocking, which would have been a perfect one that would kill the ball, the ball hit the ground loudly with a smack. All that could be heard was the ball bouncing from its earlier impact.

The look of surprise on everyone’s faces in that gym was priceless. However, the most shocked person was the person who actually did it. Etsuko looked down at her slightly red hand. She clenched her hand into a fist. She will never get tired of the feeling.

Etsuko looks at Yuma and they both give out unintelligible sounds of excitement. They hug each other as if that one point meant a hundred points.

Y/n let out a breathe she didn’t know she was holding. And she looks over at her teammates. It looks like they opened their hug, expecting a third person.

That’s you, dumbass. You’re the third person. Y/n physically jolted at the realization. Etsuko motioned her hand for Y/n.

Y/n hesitantly put both her arms on the middle of their back, barely touching as if they had a disease. She didn’t know what was too close so she played it safe. Etsuko and Yuma didn’t pay any attention to the awkwardness of Y/n and was rejoicing.

“Hold on, wait a minute! Did you actually use your stupid head? How did you do that? Usually you knock it out of the park.” Yuma didn’t want to praise Etsuko too much, knowing it would inflate her ego too much.

“Oh, shut up. I got the first point, didn’t I?”

“Yeah, you’re the most surprised out of everybody. I bet it was a fluke.”

“Shut your mouth or I’ll shut it myself!”

“HA! I’d like to see you’re scrawny ass try!”

“If I’m scrawny, then what are you?”

The teasing would never stop. Y/n intervened, “That wasn’t a fluke.”

Yuma, and even Etsuko, was confused at Y/n’s statement. With her spike track record in recognition, it makes sense for that success to be a one time thing.

“Are you sure, Y/n? You don’t have to be nice to Etsuko if you don’t want to. She’s not intimidating.”

“Why do you always find a way to diss me when you aren’t even talking to me” Etsuko grumbles. “But I agree, partly, with Yuma here. I’m pretty sure it was a fluke too.”

Y/n shakes her head side to side. “It wasn’t.” She turns to Etsuko.

“Etsuko, tell me if I am correct, before this three on three, you have always spiked the ball that was tossed to you right near the net.

Um, isn’t that where you are supposed to spike? Etsuko questions in her head.

“Yeah, you’re right.”

“Right now, you spiked the ball behind the attack line, and let me add how you didn’t even use a running start.” With this, Y/n now turned to Yuma.

“Now correct me if I am wrong, Yuma, Etsuko will swing at the ball with all her might, regardless of how tired she is.”

“Yeah, you got that spot on”

“You see, where Etsuko lacks in technique-”

Etsuko deflates.

“-she makes up for raw swinging power.”

She immediately straightens her posture and smiles at the complement.

Y/n continues, “it is because of your distance from the net that gave you leverage on actually hitting it within their side of the court.”

“Wait, Etsuko hasn’t ever shot a spike from there, so had did you even know she would even make it over the net? And how did you know that Etsuko would know to jump?” Yuma brings up a good point.

“I didn’t” Y/n simply stated.

Yuma and Etsuko looked almost disturbed at her answer. She didn’t have anything backing up her decision?

“You really tried something as risky as that when the stakes are so high?” Yuma questions in shock.

“I know I don’t seem like a person to do something like that without thinking it through but-” Y/n turns her head to the side to look at them, “I feel like I can trust you guys to back me up.”

Etsuko and Yuma almost teared up at Y/n’s confession. The morale in their team was boosted to a hundred because of this, which is just what they needed to keep them motivated. They felt they can take on the world-

“We still need 24 more points to win one set. And then another set.” Y/n looks over at the scoreboard, seeing the 1-0.

At Y/n’s sudden statement, Etsuko and Yuma embarrassingly looked down at how this is the only beginning.

On the other side of the court, the third years gathered to tell each other apologies, to shake it off, and assuring they will get the next one.

It’s Etsuko’s serve.

“Protect your head, Y/n.” Yuma instructs.

“Oh shut it, Yuma!”

Etsuko exhales. I can do this. It’s not that hard. I will be the strongest volleyball player there is. The last statement is basically a mantra for Etsuko. The thing that is special with Etsuko is that she is never afraid to try new things. Even when the probability of her failing is so high and her probability to succeed is so little. To her, that little probable outcome still stands as a chance. And she always takes it, no matter what. She will try anything, finding what works and hone that skill. On the court, it’s deadly. For the opposing team, that is.

She’s not actually trying again to do a jump serve, is she? Rinko questions as she notices that she is far away from the court line.

Yui smiles with a shake of her head, this kid never stops trying.

Etsuko looks straight ahead, just get it over the net.

She hears the whistle blow and she takes her run up and jumps. Her serve whizzes past the net, the third years not touching it.

However, it was out.

Etsuko grumbles and hangs her head in shame.

“Hey. shake it off! It’s alright” Y/n reassures. Yuma merely chuckles, but Etsuko hears her.

“What are you laughing at?! Do I have to beat your ass again?” Etsuko starts to animatedly rolls up her sleeve of her sweatshirt with a prominent vain on her neck. The two start to bicker as per usual.

This is going to be a long game. Y/n exhales a big breathe as she gets down for the next serve.

The score is 23-24. Both teams are clawing for each point. There was never a severe point difference, neither team was able to break away.

It’s Y/n’s serve.

Yuma and Etsuko felt comforted that she will be serving, if anything, they feel confident they will be able to at least do a deuce.

Chizuru mentally groaned. God, her jump serves are so hard to receive.

Y/n looks so focused, many thought who viewed the skilled first year.

She does her run up.

Chizuru instantly recognizes and smirks, This isn’t her usual jump serve! This is a jump float! Just like I’ve practiced.

“Chizuru, it’s all you!” Yui calls out to her, she knows that she has been dedicating most of her time in personal practice on her receives. This is her time to shine.

Just like in practice from all those hours, Chizuru gives in to her muscle memory and makes the receive look so effortless.

Damn it, thought it was a good idea to pull that serve out. So she has specialized receiving jump floats. Impressive. Y/n recollects her thoughts and moves up for defense. Mao sets it to Yui and she spikes, but Yuma is there, block timing on point, killing the ball’s momentum.

Etsuko made the mistake letting her guard down for a split second, mainly because Yui is known for her perfected flying receives, but she thought she wouldn’t be able to pull one off as she just spiked and is on the other side of the court in regards to the ball.

Despite this, Chizuru flies onto the ground and is able to pick up the ball.

“It didn’t hit the floor.” Y/n informs her teammates. They both are shocked, thinking they had it in the bag.

The ball barely cleared the net, Etsuko, being the closest, tried to attempt the same type of receive, but her hand was not able to make contact, resulting the ball to bounce right in front of her eyes.

“The first set goes to the third years!” Rinko annouces.

“Uhg, I’m sorry, guys! I shouldn’t have let my guard down, it’s my fault.” Etsuko furiously bowing up and down again. It’s mainly to Y/n because she has yet to know how Y/n will deal with this. Yuma on the other hand, “Hey, it’s alright, you were bound to make a mistake at some point”, she smirks, taunting yet again just to get her riled up.

“Oh, shut up! I don’t care what you think!” Her apologetic tone disappearing as she talks to Yuma.

“It’s okay, Etsuko! It’s not your fault. We are a team, we take it together. We may have lost the first set, but we still got another one so there’s no time to think about what we could have done.” Y/n explains.

There is a small break to rehydrate and a breather. Nonetheless, the second set was about to start as the three on three switch sides.

The second set was harder than the first. Not because both teams were exhausted, it was as if something was ignited within both teams. They were continuously pushing each other as the set went on. Like the last set, there was no big point gap, but this time, the first years were surprisingly in the lead, as the scores are 19-21.

“Damn, this time the first years beat them in getting in the 20′s” one of the second years said, which was the official setter, Manami Aoki, a second year.

“I think they might take the set!”  Another second year chimes in who plays middle blocker, Takei Katsu.

Just like she said, the first years did take the second set. Yuma was able to snuff the ball’s momentum from Yui’s spike for the winning point.

“I honestly thought this wasn’t going into a third set.” Matsuda Yua, a second year. She’s a middle blocker and an outside hitter, she voices her thoughts.

“Hm, yeah. At face value, it seemed the third years would win in straight sets, but it seems the first years got some spunk that’s saving their ass.” Takai rationalizes.

“Yeah, I see that” Aoki agrees with her.

“Yeah, but I think they got more than spunk with that volleyball prodigy on their team.”

The second years turned one to one their fellow classmates, Watabe Nozomi, their libero. She wasn’t one to really talk to other people, which includes her teammates. She was silent most of the time, but she was super reliable, both on and off the court. They never wanted to force her in opening up about herself so for the most part, they let her be one of the most reserved people on their team.

Because of their knowledge of her personality and attitude, they were shocked at how she was actually taking part in the conversation. Not that they minded, they always wanted to get to know her better. The way their team works is that they are more than just teammates, they care for each other outside of volleyball and want the best for them, regardless of what happens on the court.

They form this bond with one another, which makes their actions on the court to be more naturally cohesive. This is one of the strengths that their club possesses. And it’s not that they force this bond, it’s the love for volleyball that brings them together.

“She must be really something if she got Nozomi talking about her.” Rinko looks over the second years as she stands on the side with her whistle.

Nozomi’s cheeks tinge with some red as she gets called out. The second years chuckle a bit at her reaction.

“You really think she is a prodigy?” Aoki asks.

“She seems really in tuned with her body. It’s like she is hyper-aware of her surroundings and makes fast decisions that almost always ensure a point.” Nozomi comments. The second years nod in agreement and acknowledgment.

“I don’t think she’s a prodigy, I mean, those types of people are born with skill. While, Y/n seems she has built upon her skills over the years, which is impressive in itself.” Rinko adds in.

Rinko had it right. Y/n was not a prodigy or some sort of genius. She was someone who practiced, practiced, and practiced some more. She devoted so much of her time and energy into volleyball that it only made sense that she excels in it.

As the third set nears the end, the first years make a surprising break away. The points being 23-19.

“We might actually be getting our own servants” Etsuko pants as exhaust dawning on her.

“Yeah, if we continue to play smart, we might win this thing” Yuma continues.

“We can do this, guys. Let’s play strong till the very end.” Y/n gave a thumbs up at her teammates. And smiled. Well, she tried.

“Uh, what’s up with your face, dude? If you gotta take a shit, then go ahead. We can take a short break” Etsuko assures Y/n.

“You idiot! Can’t you see she’s smiling.” Yuma karate chops Etsuko’s head, resulting in a yelp and her hands to fly to her head at the impact.

Poor Y/n is truly trying her best, but she was not preparing to show much emotion today, or any day for that matter. She had to shake it off and she can worry about being not emotionally available later.

It was Y/n’s turn to serve. All three third years internally groaned. She decides to serve it over to Chizuru, specifically right behind her left foot.

The ball actually lands behind her right foot. Despite being at game point, Y/n couldn’t help but feel irritated at how inaccurate her serve was. The girl holds herself to a high standard. She sighs, she knows she’s getting tired. She needs to assure this win, but what’s the best option?

Y/n is deep in thinking as her teammates are rejoicing at the mere possibility of having the third years as servants.

Then, it becomes so obvious. She does a short serve. The ball flying just over the net, forcing Moa to retrieve the ball with a bump. Yui then spikes the ball over. Y/n smirks.

Yuma receives the ball, sending it over to Y/n.

“Etsuko!” Y/n calls out to her.

They are thinking of doing that attack from earlier, where Etsuko spiked from behind the attack line! Yui resolves.

Yui and Mao push their forces opposite of Etsuko, waiting for the awaiting spike.

However, the spike never comes, but the ball is already bouncing on the third years court.

A SETTER DUMP?! everyone thought they were going to lose their minds.

Yuma and Etsuko was the first to scream out of pure exhilaration of winning against the third years. They tackled an unexpecting Y/n to the ground. Y/n sort of short-circuited. She was not used to this.

“We did it! We actually did it!” Etsuko exclaimed.

“Can’t believe we pulled that off.” Yuma added in.

“However, I really thought you were sending it over to me.” Etsuko crossed her arms and pouted.

“Sorry about that.” Y/n raises her hand to the back of head, “I knew if I got you on the ropes, they would be as well.”

“And hey, think of this way, your gullibility actually paid off this time!”

“Don’t make me beat your ass again!”

“You wanna go?!”

“You guys make a good team” Yui chimes in.

The two stop their bickering at the sound of their team captain’s voice.

“Ha, yeah. I guess we do.” Y/n stood up, while helping Etsuko and Yuma up as they are still looking at each other with looks that are like daggers at each other. “You guys played a good game as well.” Y/n reassured the third years, “I’d be honored to play on your team.”

Yui looks over at Rinko, “You already have it, don’t you?”

“Of course.” Rinko responds. Much to Y/n’s confusion as to what they are talking about.

Rinko walks over to a package that was on the sidelines, opening it up and pulling out a black jacket, representing Karasuno.

Y/n’s eyes widened. She doesn’t understand why she’s acting this way. It’s just a jacket. She had a strong feeling she was going to get in the club, so why what was this warm feeling in her chest?

Before she realizes it, the jacket is in her hands and she is enveloped in a group hug from the whole time.

“I won’t let you guys down!” Y/n declares in a rather former manner.

“We know.” Yui confirms.

Y/n felt safe, but there was a hesitant feeling that she shouldn’t get used to it.

“Okay! Today was meant to be an easy day, but don’t think tomorrow is going to be the same. In fact, it’s safe to say it’s only going to get harder from here.” Rinko announces.

The team collectively groans.

“After we clean the gym, we have some important news. So, hurry up!” Yui ordered, resulting in the team to scatter in cleaning and disassembling the net.

It didn’t take too long, and the team soon sat on the cool gym floor as Yui and Rinko stood before them.

“So, as you may know, we have been lacking the coach department, as in, we have no coach.” Rinko stated blandly.

“But, someone has graciously volunteered to coach us, and just to reassure you guys, so you guys think its not some rando. I did some research on him, and let’s just say he’s like a legend in the volleyball world.” Yui says.

Oo’s and awe’s can be heard among the team.

Who could it be? A legend?! Why Karasuno of all places? Many questions were flying about in the gym.

“Okay, okay. In addition to that, he’s known to be, well, harsh with his training.” Yui continues.

“Harsher than Rinko?” Etusko interrupts.

“Oi, don’t make me give you laps.”

“You’re proving my point!”

“Anyways, we will meet him tomorrow and he has requested that we start immediately in order to see what we need to work on. So, come tomorrow mentally prepared for that.” Yui informs.

“Alright, that’s all. Get out of here and get some good rest!” Rinko instructed.

The only noise that was coming from the gym was now faint conversations of the mystery coach and homework, shoes squeaking, and bags getting picked up. The girls started to leave the gym in pairs or trios.

“Hey Y/n, you want to walk home with us? It’s seems our game went a bit longer than expected and it’s pretty dark outside.” Yuma proposed to Y/n.

Y/n’s cheeks turned pink at the friendly gesture. They want to walk? With her? It’s not that big of a deal but it’s enough for Y/n to feel like she might be actually real friends with them. Y/n smiles fondly at them.

“Yeah, I’d like that.”

The three first years make their way out, but before they leave the area, Y/n spots Asahi! With some new-found confidence, Y/n decided to call out his name, “Hey, Asahi!”

There were some boys that were with him, and Y/n could only assume that those were some of his teammates. Asahi tensed up at the sudden call, but as he found the source of it, he reverted back to a calmer state.

“H-hey Y/n”

Y/n noticed that there was a grey haired boy and a dark haired one on either side of him. They were pretty tall in comparison to Y/n.

“So, how was practice?”

Asahi realized how confusing this looked to his fellow teammates. Sugawara and Daichi just looked at each other with puzzled looks.

“Oh, it went good! I think, I’m back on the team.”

“That’s good to hear. I’d like to set for you again sometime,” Y/n looked back to see her new friends who weren’t as puzzled as Asahi’s friends were, but more intimidated by how big Asahi is, “I got to get going. Goodbye!” Y/n waved and started to head back to her friends as they began to walk to the school’s entrance.

“Set?”

“Again?”

“You’ve played volleyball with her?”

“Is that the real reason you’ve been gone for a month?”

“She’s cute.”

“Yeah, is she in our grade?”

“G-guys! I just met her today, I swear!” Asahi waved off all their overwhelming questions. “I don’t know her that well, but I do know she plays volleyball,” he then takes a glance over to Y/n’s retreating figure with her two other friends who seem to laughing at something, “and she seems to be really dedicated to it.”

Little did Y/n know, a certain black-haired boy with blue eyes was also staring at her retreating figure and couldn’t help but overhearing Asahi’s conversation with Y/n. He grew curious and wanted to learn more.

“Hey Kageyama, are you even listening to me?!”

Series of fortunate events

pairing: oikawa tooru x fem!reader

summary: the three times that oikawa tried get your attention, and the one time you noticed.

Question of the day: who’s ur fav haikyuu character? (Comment down below hehe)

a/n: self indulgent as frick and didnt check spelling soooo; reblogs r appreciated!!

Oikawa thought he was smooth with the ladies.

Hell, he even had a fan club that would occasionally bake him his precious milk bread.

He got girls wanting to be with him, and guys wanting to be him.

Oh, but alas, he had his eyes on one girl. Specifically, the girl in his econ class.

And, of course, she didn't give him the time of day.

It's not that you actively ignored Oikawa, you just were preoccupied with other things in your life.

And Oikawa loved that about you. You were so driven and a hard worker yet you made it look easy.

You did things so gracefully, that Oikawa started suspecting you're some kind of angel or something.

And don't get him started on how pretty you were. Iwaizumi has had enough of Oikawa gushing about how beautiful you looked during lunch.

"If you don't confess to her already, I'm so beating your ass, Shittykawa"

"That's not the greatest motivator, you know!"

It's easier said than done, Oikawa thinks.

First attempt.

He would get your coffee order, present it to you, you take notice of his thoughtfulness, and fall in love with him.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Oikawa noticed that you always had a hazelnut latte when you studied in the library on Mondays.

Don't ask why he knew your routine, he is just in-tune towards his crush that's all.

Definitely not occasionally following you around like a love-sick puppy. Of course not. That would be ridiculously ridiculous.

Oikawa was now walking to the library with two cups of joe in both of his hands.

He was nervous. He felt he might crush the paper cups with how hard he was gripping it.

His heart was beating so damn loud that he couldn't even hear his footsteps and tuned out all the people around him.

He was second-guessing, was this your coffee order? Did he just imagine it? What if you had a change of heart and hated lattes?

He eventually reached the library in the time of overthinking.

The doors to the library were closed, so he was peering in through the small windows to see where you were.

Knowing where you were would make his entrance seem more casual and cool when he eventually would walk up to you.

Boy was planning his whole speech, even a choreographed hair flip.

And, he was mentally preparing himself to look at your pretty face.

Gosh, you were so pretty.

While looking through, he didn't see you at any of the tables. He frowned.

Were you not there? Did you leave early today? If you did, his plans were foiled.

Oikawa felt a pang in his chest at the thought of failing. His shoulders visibly lowered at the depressing thought.

Then, it all happened all at once.

The library's door swung open, revealing you. If Oikawa took a step closer, he would have been hit by the sudden door opening. Simultaneously, a student had bumped into Oikawa's back, pushing him forward.

Your sudden appearance and the bump startled him, loosing his footing, but he was able to not fall on his face.

But, your favorite coffee beverage that was meant for you was now on your white blouse.

Y/n squeaked at the impact, knowing she couldn't really make more noise as she was partially still in the library.

The silence was loud, if that makes sense. Some people nearby were staring at the incident.

Oikawa fixated on the sound of the dripping of the caffeinated beverage.

Oh god, how can you mess up that badly. She probably thinks that you are the biggest dork to ever live.

Oikawa felt sick, like he was going to hurl.

The embarrassment made him look down, not being able to look you in your eyes.

Oikawa was caught up in his head and tuned out your concerned voice.

As much you were the one that coffee dripping from your shirt, you were asking if he was okay as his ears were turning red.

"S-sorry!" and with that, Oikawa sped walk away.

"Ooh, yeah, that's pretty bad" Matsukawa chimed in.

Oikawa blew out air in frustration.

"Have you tried talking to her since?"

"And say what? Hey, I know I spilled coffee on you, but I am practically in love with you so would you mind going on a date with me?" Oikawa indulges the idea.

"Well, at least you're being forward." Iwaizumi adds in.

Oikawa pouts and crossed his arms.

"What about you invite her to one of our practices? Hate to admit it, but girls tend to swoon over you when they watch you play." Iwaizumi offers with a shrug.

Oikawa gasp a the realization as if a light bulb appeared on top of his brown haired head.

"You're right! After watching my clever plays, it would be a piece of cake to sweep her off her feet. As if anyone can resist my charm." Oikawa puts his hands on his hips, chest swelling up with pride.

"Don't make me throw this volleyball at your face."

Attempt 2

Oikawa sat behind you in econ class. He decided to do the classic note passing to ask you to attend one of his practices.

"Hi! I'm sorry about the coffee incident! Would you mind me making up to you by inviting you to one of my volleyball practices?" was written on a piece torn from oikawa's notebook with a small winky face.

Aoba Johsai's volleyball typically didn't have observers/visitors. Other than other schools coming in for skirmages, but for the most part, no one else out of that social circle would be in a practice.

Y/n smiled down at the note as the feeling of warmth spread throughout her chest and face. She quickly jotted down her answer as an easy "yes! I would love to. Thx for the invite!"

The bell rang and Y/n got out of her seat, sending a smile and a wave to Oikawa, "Can't wait!" as she left the class.

To say Oikawa was happy was an understatement.

Overjoyed? Ecstatic? Thrilled? That, times 10.

As soon as you were out of the classroom, he pumped his fist in the air in victory, earning some weird glances from other students.

Oh boy, but he did not care.

He just scored some swooning time from you.

The day of practice arrived.

Oikawa kept making glances at the gym doors every couple minutes.

“She’ll be here, stop worrying or you’ll get gray hair”

Oikawa pouts.

Why weren’t you here yet? Given, it’s only been a couple minutes since school ended, but your last class wasn’t too far from the gym. So, naturally Oikawa worried.

But then, the steel door slides open and your head pops in and looks around, scanning.

Your eyes land on him and he can feel himself immediately standing straighter.

With recognition, you offer a small wave and a cheesy grin.

Oikawa feels like his heart is going to beat out of his chest. Gosh, you were adorable.

Oikawa jogs over to your entrance, “Hey! I’m glad you are able to make it!” He admits with a hand behind his head.

“Yeah, definitely. I wouldn’t want to miss a practice of THE seijoh volleyball club, of course” you giggled at your exaggeration.

Oh my god. Your giggle. Oikawa notes to look up some cheesy jokes later, he wants to hear that giggle of yours more.

“Well, well, well look what we have here.”

A voice chimes, approaching the pair. Hanamaki makes his way over.

He pats, or well, slaps, Oikawa's back, making him lurch a bit forward at the impact.

Way to make me look cool, Makki. Oikawa thinks.

“Is this THE y/n that I’ve heard so much about?”

Y/n tilts her head in confusion.

Oh my god, Oikawa feels his heart squeeze. You are too cute.

However Oikawa finally registers what Makki said.

Y/n wasn’t really popular so she was confused, “Who was talking about me?-"

She gets cut off but a tomato Oikawa.

“You are at the top for most of your classes so it makes sense that he’s heard of you. I-I mean there’s not a lot of people who go here so it’s a small world really. ” Oikawa rambles and frantically waves his hand around to change the subject quickly.

As much as Y/n is smart, she is equally dumb in understanding affection.

“Right yeah, that makes sense, I guess.” She shrugs it off, “You guys should probably head over and do your stretches.” Y/n notices that the coach has entered the gym.

The two volleyball looks over and nods their heads in agreement and make their way over. However, there definitely was a slight shove from the brown haired boy to his teammate.

As practice continued, it consisted of a lot of Oikawa showing off and making quick glances at Y/n to make sure she was watching.

Surely enough, she was watching and, of course, she was impressed. At some point Oikawa pulled the cliché of dedicating one of his excellent serves to Y/n, but the cheesiness wasn't enough to not make Y/n blush.

Then, the coach called to do some scrimmages between the team as they could form two whole teams.

Oikawa looked over at Y/n, her eyes cast down at her lap as she was on her phone, texting someone probably.

Cue WorryOikawa. Is she bored? Did I bore her? Does she want to leave? No, that would mess up my plan on walking her home and asking her out. Oikawa pouted that would probably cause him wrinkles in the future.

However, a clever idea popped up in his love-struck head. Oikawa jogged his way over his crush.

Y/n looked up expectantly and put down her phone and smiled. Oikawa could melt into a puddle, for real. His mind goes blank for a hot second.

"What's up?"

Oikawa almost got distracted and forgot about his mission, "Uh, we are going to start a match and I was wondering if you would want to be a line judge?"

"Oh, yeah sure! Sounds like fun."

Oikawa smiled and guided to Y/n where typical line judges stand, explaining her role in the most clear way possible.

Y/n had a simple understanding of volleyball, so she felt like watching where the ball goes won't be too hard. What can go wrong?

Oh, if she only knew.

The match began and both teams were giving it their all. Each time didn't pull forward a lot as the points were always near each other. With every spike, there was a block, then a counter, and repeated.

Then, during a long rally that felt like it was never going to end, Y/n was on the opposite side of where Oikawa's team played, watching the sidelines.

Oikawa sticks to his tried and true by sending a quick toss to Iwaizumi. It was a bit low, but he could make it work.

The opposing team, who was trying to narrow the course of his spikes for the majority of the match finally decided to commit to a three person block, providing immense pressure on the ace.

Y/n looked in awe at how it seemed like Iwaizumi stopped in mid-air.

It happened quite quickly, to be honest. One second, Y/n was staring at the line, but now she was staring at the ceiling of the gymnasium with a stinging feeling on her forehead and the bridge of her nose.

Feeling the pressure of the three person block, Iwaizumi was hoping a nice, sharp line shot, but his aiming was a bit flawed as it hit Y/n straight in her pretty face.

The impact sounded hard.

Y/n felt tears begin as her nose and forehead stung.

Oikawa watched in horror as his blood ran cold. As much as he wasn't the one spiking, it was a ball that he tossed and so he still felt extremely guilty.

He snapped back in reality, when he heard you say an audible "Ow" as you put your hand over where the ball made impact and sat up from the ground.

He ran towards you and noticed your tears.

He felt awful. Making your crush cry isn't something that anyone aims for.

"Are you okay, Y/n? Here, let me take you to the nurse's office."

However, coach was quick to shut down that idea as Oikawa was the setter and one of the important cogs in this well oiled machine.

Instead, coach offered to have one of the second years who were sitting on the sidelines to take Y/n to the nurse.

"But-" Oikawa starts to protest, but finds that refuting will only lead to unnecessary punishment.

The coach ends up calling one of the second years that were on the side lines to bring Y/n to the nurse. Oikawa pouts at the constriction in his chest that makes it hard to breathe.

He was pulled out of his pity party by a slap on his back, which shocked him, but he already knew who it was.

"It's going to be fine. Third times the charm", Iwaizumi reassures his childhood friend.

It's touching, really.

Oikawa has sought girl after girl in the past.

Iwaizumi knows this. He has to deal with the yapping of Oikawa every time he thinks he has found the "love of his life".

Weirdly enough, Oikawa's track record of significant others isn't the greatest. As much as he has many fangirls swarming around him, he tends to fixates on volleyball and disregards time with his partner, resulting in the end of the romantic relationship.

So, you can imagine the confusion on Iwaizumi's face as he watched Oikawa ponder what coffee order he should get to appear "cool" to you.

The amount of effort and time Oikawa is putting in his little profession of love is telling in of itself.

Not to mention, Oikawa doesn't know this, but Iwaizumi shares a class with Y/n and thinks they are really sweet and hardworking. So, he may not look it, but he is rooting for Oikawa and Y/n to get together.

Third attempt.

Flowers and chocolates. What could possibly go wrong? Stripping away all of the fluffy fluff and getting down to the basics.

At least, that's what Oikawa is telling himself.

He awaits for the period before lunch to end, that way, when he professes his love, he is able to either run away to his usual spot or spend a nice, relaxing lunch with his crush.

To ensure productivity, Oikawa practiced running to his locker, grabbing the flowers and chocolates, and calculating the fastest route to your class, so he wouldn't miss you by too much.

Oh, Oikawa. You didn't think about the lunch rush? And, of course, his fan club.

He is breaking a bit of sweat, clutching the flowers like his life depended on it and if he held onto the box of chocolates any tighter, the chocolates would be either crushed or melted.

Nonetheless, he makes it your class and takes a breathe, taking a peek inside. There you were in all your oblivious glory, packing your school bag. Oikawa sighed, you had a half of your hair up with a white bow holding it. Gosh, you were cute.

Oikawa blinked back into reality. He didn't realize the amount of students around him as they were going to their lockers or making their way to the lunchroom.

Oikawa takes a breathe and hyped himself up to talk to you, but he gets interrupted when a small girl with a bento box approaches him. He recognizes her as one of the girls who tends to cheer Seijoh's away matches.

He flashes a smile and says thank you. His eyes keep darting to the girl and Y/n's classroom door, making sure he doesn't miss his chance. He tries to keep the conversation short and simple because he is on the verge of professing his love to his crush.

Much to his dismay, other girls who have also openly claimed to be a part of Oikawa's fan club, makes their way over to him, as they thought this was a perfect opportunity for them to show their support by giving small baked gifts and other such things.

Oh, Oikawa was practically dying inside.

But, the moment he saw your white bow walk outside the classroom, his eyes widened. This is it. He drowned out the others and let out a "Y/n!" in an attempt to get your attention.

Oh, curse the lunch rush because Y/n does not end up turning around to see him, but looks around to see who called her.

Oikawa quickly tries to raise one hand, but the fangirls have formed a circle around him and the array of people walking up and down the halls are not in his favor.

Y/n, however, makes eye contact with Oikawa eventually, and Oikawa feels as if the air has been knocked out of him.

This is it. Y/n smiles at the familiarity, but then she casts her attention to the girls swarming him, and then back to Oikawa.

There's something behind her eyes, but Oikawa can't put his finger on it. But, god, did he just want to make his way towards you.

Y/n sends a tight-lipped smile his way and sends a small wave. She turns away and continues walking down the hall.

Oikawa feels his heart drop to his stomach.

That's it? You were probably already in line for lunch, chatting to one of your friends.

And there was Oikawa, in the hallway, clutching a box of chocolates and flowers that he bought along the way to school, so they were as fresh as possible for Y/n.

The crowd dissipates and Oikawa feels defeated. Maybe the universe just didn't want the two of you together.

Oikawa frowns at the thought. That's just rude, Oikawa curses any superior being above.

So, here is Oikawa, sitting with his almost deflated flowers and more deflated ego with a box of chocolates at a bench, waiting for Iwaizumi to be done in the locker room so they can walk home together.

Oikawa has planned a long rant for his beloved friend.

"You're thinking so hard, I think you might hurt yourself." A voice pipes in that makes Oikawa jump from his angry mental speech.

However, what shocks him more, is the familiarity of the voice.

He daydreams about it too much to not know who it is.

He whips his head to see Y/n there. She turned her head to the side in curiosity to what got the brown haired boy so worked up.

"What's got you thinking so hard?" Y/n plops down next to him.

Oikawa saw this ironic opportunity and ran with it.

He took a deep breathe, "So, there was this girl..." and told his whole ordeal with all his attempts.

You listened to all of it with care and attention.

"Well, if you just tell her all the trouble you went through, I'm sure she would understand and give you a chance" Y/n reasons.

How ironic.

"You know, you're right. Will you go out with me?" What has he got to lose?

Now, Y/n has officially short circuited.

"Wait, what?!"

"Will you do me the honor of taking you out?"

"Me?! I'm the girl?"

"Yeah, you were." Oikawa shys away a bit.

"So, those flowers and chocolates are", a short pause, "mine?"

"Yeah, they are" he answers.

Y/n looks at him with a look of sincerity and a smidge of disbelief at how sweet the boy in front of her.

She looks at his eyes, then down at his lips and thinks, why not?

Y/n kisses the boy she has been crushing on since forever.

"So, is that a yes?" Oikawa presumes.

"Hmm, I'll think about it." She answers with a cheeky smile.
