OH MY GODDD i loved this part!! i like me some angst so the confusing feelings, the guilt, i really enjoyed reading that!! i also loved how y/n progressively realized that her “tiny crush” on taehyung is not tiny at alll and it’s in fact pretty big 😭😭
i love this couple so so much 😭😭 i adore their dynamic and ughh i was giggling like an idiot when they were having breakfast together!! them teasing each other gave me like 100 more years of life, i'm so serious!! i can’t wait for them to be together 🥲🥲
omg i feel kinda bad for ivan :((( tbh i didn’t like it when he said “just don’t get him anything too special, you don’t wanna get his hopes up.” i was like UMMM excuse me??? but i appreciated that he apologized to y/n right after, she’s totally right when she says that he just ticks all the boxes 😭😭 and when he said “It’ll just take a little bit of courage from one of you” i gasped out loud!! he knows he knows 🥺 he’s great so i hope he eventually finds someone!! (if he doesn’t, tell him i’m available) 😊😊
that last part, i’m heartbroken 😫😫 y/n coming home feeling super sad and she finds nisa there, wearing tae’s shirt ?? you’ll be paying for my emotional damage amelia 😭😭
anddd i have to mention the boys!! they all love and care about y/n so much, it’s so cute :(( this friend group is everything to me, i could talk about them for hoursss 🥹
ahhh these past couple of weeks have been sooo crazy!! when i read this part i was in the hospital so i wasn’t able to reblog it right away but now finally i have the chance to sit down and write my thoughts about it!! 😭😭 i’m truly super excited about part 3, i’ve grown very attached to these two idiots and i can’t wait to get more of them. thank you for writing!! 💜💜

word count ↠ 13.1k
18+ | warnings ↠ same confused feelings as pt. 1, less sexy things happening and now we have angst *sigh*
notes ↠ this is so overdue, i’m sorry. (christmas was like six months ago but it’s still set at the same time). i hope you enjoy it though! <3 i’ll try to be much faster for the next (and most likely final) part! xo (also some part feel a bit stilted and/or rushed to me but i’m getting back into the flow of things so please excuse me lol).

⊰ ─── ⊱»̶⊰ ── ꕥ ── ⊱»̶⊰ ─── ⊱
Your hands shot to your ears as the sharp pops echoed like fireworks only a few metres behind you.
“Breathe, Y/N,” you whispered quietly to yourself, still shaking from your close call, your leg painful from where you landed on it only moments ago.
Leaning your head against the tree, you took deep breaths, trying to steady yourself against the trunk behind you. Thankfully the sound of gunshots started to die down, and your mind drifted to your pale white chiffon dress billowing in the wind, your hands now trying your best, albeit unsuccessfully, to gather as much of the fabric around your legs as you could for fear one of the guards will catch sight of you.
Suddenly you heard a few loud thuds followed by the sounds of panicked shouts… and then silence. You felt faint and slumped down to the ground, trying once again to steady yourself, your hand pressed firmly into the ground, damp cold grass beneath your fingertips, still wet from the morning dew.
After a few moments, you craned your neck around the tree trunk, hopeful that the coast was clear. You heard a rustle and felt something touch your finger. When you looked back you saw a figure in a guard uniform crouched down next to you in your exact position, his palm flattened in the grass right next to yours, slightly touching your hand, his eyes also pointed in the direction of the earlier gunshots.
Shock waves echoed in your body as you jumped back, your dress catching on one of the branches of the tree, a quiet tearing noise the only sound you heard as the figure brought his index finger to his lips, slowly shaking his head, indicating that you should be quiet. It only took you a second to realize who it was and your heart sank. Of all the guards in the entire Royal Guard, Jeon Jungkook was the last one you wanted to see.
You kept your eyes trained on him as you tried to stand, pain stopping you from rising as you felt cool liquid flow down your shin and pain emanating from that exact location. When Jungkook caught your eye, you tried to appear unfazed, but you were certain he could hear your heart beat through your chest. He glanced down and noticed the red spilling from your shin, now clearly visible through a slit in your skirt.
He started towards you but you backed up, gathering your legs towards you as you threw up your hands in front of you, your eyes still fixed on him. “Don’t move Jeon,” you commanded, as you reach behind you for any kind of weapon you could get your hands on, settling on a large jagged rock in your vicinity, “I am not afraid of a fight, you know that,” you challenged, your voice shaking as you brought the rock in front of you, your hand visibly shaking despite your effort.
“You’re still that same brat you always were, huh,” he smiled, shaking his head, “But you can relax. I’m not going to hurt you,” he whispered, his eyes darting between you and the direction of the earlier gunshots, “Listen, those two guards lost track of you but I think there may be a third. We need to get out of here.” There was an unmistakable urgency in his voice. You were puzzled but you couldn’t think about that now. You slowly rose to your feet, holding your breath and wincing a little at the pain in your leg, before looking at him eye to eye.
“Are you going to turn me in or not?” you demanded, trying to read his motives through his eyes though you knew it was fruitless.
He sighed. “No, Princess, I’m not. Here, let me help you,” he said, as he started walking towards you, his hands outstretched towards your hurt leg.
“Stop right there, Jeon,” you held out your hands instinctively, then bent down to the ground, your eyes still locked on his. When you realized he wasn’t going to make a move, you looked down at your dress, eyeing the multiple tears having formed in the delicate fabric.
Then you noticed it. A shiny fragment, a bullet in the exact spot where the guards had shot earlier. You reached out and grasped it between your fingers, studying it closely. “They’re using live ammunition,” you said finally, your heart starting to race at the possibility that these guards were not shooting simply to capture. “I thought they were rubber bullets,” you sighed, tossing the bullet aside as you focussed on your dress again. “I guess the stories are true. My uncle really does want me gone.”
“Your uncle’s out of control, Y/N. When I found out he ordered Seokjin to-,” his voice trailed off as his breath caught in his throat. He stepped back, noticing just how beautiful you looked in this light, your pale white dress glowing in the morning light still streaming in between the throngs of trees. He could see the melancholy in your eyes as you fumbled with your skirt, but there was still a light, a glimmer, that hadn’t yet faded. Your face suddenly screwed up in frustration as you struggled to tear away a strip of fabric with painstaking precision and he thought to himself how wonderfully adorable you looked right now. Your long tresses were framing your face so beautifully that he could not help thinking if fairies existed you would certainly be their queen. A warmth arose in his chest, followed by anger as he suddenly realized what was happening. “No, I can’t,” he whispered to himself, although you didn’t seem to notice.
When you finally tore off a strip of fabric from your skirt, you sighed in relief, bringing your leg out through the ragged slit and examining the damage to your shin.
“That looks painful,” Jungkook whispered.
“Thanks to you and your men,” you grumbled, still focused on securing the fabric around your leg to steady the flow of blood and likely swelling.
“I’m really sorry, Y/N. I wasn’t chasing you, believe me. I was trying to-,” Jungkook stopped as you both heard the quiet thud of footsteps hitting the ground in quick succession only a few hundred metres away.
“Fuck,” Jungkook breathed, as he grabbed your hand and suddenly lifted you into his arms, leaving you no choice but to wrap your hands around his neck. Without a second word, he started sprinting upwards through the thick of the underbrush, breathing heavily while the world whizzed past you, the sounds of twigs breaking beneath his feet and his quickening heart beat as you held your head pressed against his chest. After several minutes he started to slow down. “There’s a road out here we can cross,” he panted, pulling his arms away a bit as you looked up at him slowly.
His eyes lingered on yours a few seconds too long before you pushed him away a bit, whispering, “Are you going to set me down, Jeon, or do I have to jump from here?”
Jungkook chuckled and brought you to the ground very gently, holding onto your arm while you tested your hurt leg.
“I’m fine, Jeon,” you glanced at him before bringing two fingers up to your forehead in a half salute, “I will be on my way. Thanks for your help,” and you started to walk away, scanning the area before edging closer to the road.
“Ouch, Princess,” he smirked, clutching his hand to his chest, “You really want to leave me out here on my own?”
“What… you want to join me?” Your surprise must have been quite evident on your face as Jungkook started to laugh.
“Do you really think you can make it out here on your own, Princess?”
“Like you care, Jeon. I bet you just want front row seats to my misery,” you said quickly, still processing Jungkook’s offer. It would be an understatement for you to say you two did not see eye to eye up until now.
“My earlier act of heroism must not have registered with you yet, Princess. I saved your ass,” he smirked, his hands on his hips.
You huffed, rolling your eyes at him. “Well, this ass needs no saving. You can go your own way because I can do without your intolerable presence,” you shouted angrily, flashbacks rushing back to you of the countless times he made you angry in the past and your frustration rising as you suddenly realized he may have other motives for “saving” you.
Jungkook started smiling, his eyes moving down towards your legs before back up to your face. “I can see you’re quite capable of taking care of yourself, Princess,” he replied, voice dripping of sarcasm, his smile widening as he noticed the glimmer of anger in your eyes.
“Oh shut up Jeon. And stop calling me Princess.”
“But you are a princess,” he insisted, feigning innocence as his big doe-like eyes became even bigger, before continuing, “and even if you look like Belle after a honeymoon with Beast,” he smirked, noticing your slight grimace, “you’re still a princess,” he said, pausing a little before adding, “Princess.”
You rolled your eyes at him, your chest starting to feel warm under your lace bodice. He was not wrong. You were technically a princess. Your uncle was king and you were next in line to the throne. Simple enough. But this small fact was anything but simple. As the next in line to the throne, you had responsibilities, the kind your younger sister did not have the misfortune to follow. Your whole life revolved around you sacrificing one thing or another, and this last “responsibility” crossed the line, a line that had moved further and further away from who you were the older you became and the more unhinged your uncle became.
Last night your uncle had sat you down after the annual ball had wrapped up to tell you in no uncertain terms that, regardless of your earlier objections, no matter how vehement, you were under his strict order to marry the prince from the Kingdom of the North for the sake of peace between your two neighbouring kingdoms, uniting the two biggest royal families on the island. So you did the only reasonable thing your mind could come up with in your haze of utter panic: you ran. Without a second thought, without so much as a note or a plan, that very night, you just ran for it, in your best evening gown, the one you had bought for that evening’s festivities. You’re not sure what you had in mind, but you certainly didn’t expect the entire military and royal guard after you merely hours after your escape. For fuck’s sake, you were still on the castle grounds when you heard shouts, “The Princess has escaped!” Not long afterwards you found out your uncle set a bounty on your head for your capture and direct return to him. You started to wonder if this might explain why Jungkook hadn’t turned you in earlier.
“You’re an asshole, Jeon,” you spat out, considering for a second before adding, “Fine, I renounce my title. Happy? So stop fucking calling me Princess.”
“Make me,” he challenged, an unmistakable glint in his eyes. He was enjoying this.
“Ha,” you scoffed, “I would love to. But I don’t need another warrant out for me for yet another crime.”
Jungkook burst out laughing, creases forming along the corners of his eyes.
“Go for it, Princess,” he said finally, with his arms folded across his chest, biceps bulging through his coat although you tried not to notice.
“Oh, how I would love to smack that stupid grin off your face,” you retorted.
Jungkook’s smile grew even wider. Then his expression changed. It became unreadable. You shuffled a little, wondering what he was thinking.
When Jungkook finally spoke, it startled you a bit.
“I’m curious, Y/N. Why are you running anyway? Think about it: where are you going to find someone else willing to marry you,” he mused, his head lifting towards the sky but his eyes quickly returning to meet yours.
Another insult. You returned his gaze with all the fury you could muster, your fists clenching involuntarily as you contemplated whether you should really deck him or just ditch him. The first option was tempting. You were certain now that you could wipe that stupid smirk off his face.
“Calm down, Princess. You need to control that short fuse. Not everyone will find it sexy,” he quipped, the corner of his mouth lifting into his signature smirk.
You rolled your eyes at him but he was already focussed on something behind you. You looked back to see a car in the distance.
You both rushed back towards the woods, crouching behind a bush as the vehicle passed by. You caught a glimpse of a familiar face in the window: it was Park Jimin. You couldn’t believe it. You pushed Jungkook’s hand away from your shoulder, breaking free in an attempt to run towards the moving vehicle. Jungkook reached out and caught your wrist, pulling you back to him with such force that you lost your balance and fell right on top of him, your faces merely inches apart, and you could hear him breathing heavily in your ear. When you met his eyes you saw a fire you weren’t expecting.
“Are you out of your mind?” He hissed, venom dripping from his voice.
“It was Jimin, he…,” you started, as flashes of your best friend crossed your mind, his sweet smile, his bright eyes.
“Y/N listen to me. He is working with Captain Seokjin to track you down. He is not the same Jimin you knew. Or I knew.”
You were still struggling against his grip as he pulled you in even tighter. You could feel his heart beating against yours, his breath soft against your neck.
“You’re not the only one he’s after,” he whispered into your ear.
You stopped struggling. Jungkook had not yet explained why he didn’t turn you in. He could have easily carried you to the castle but instead he brought you to this deserted road, one you knew would lead far away from the castle. Then you realized once again that his motives could still be sinister. If he turned you in at that point Captain Seokjin would have taken all the credit as the head of the Royal Guard. But if he brought you directly to the King, outside the cover of the Royal Guard, it could be quite profitable for him.
You heard Jungkook groan a bit and you realized you were still on top of him. As you brought your hand to his chest to steady yourself, you noticed how firm and muscular it was underneath your hand. Your cheeks flushed at the realization and Jungkook seemed to notice. He grinned as you tried to shuffle off him, accidentally leaning onto his inner thigh.
“Ouch. Careful there Princess. You could make things very uncomfortable for me,” he smirked, slowly raising his eyebrows as you grasped what he meant and rolled your eyes.
“I can’t stand you,” you breathed, annoyed that he seemed to be enjoying this.
“You don’t have to stand me,” he said, getting to his feet and wiping the dirt from his pants, “There are things we could do that wouldn’t involve any standing at all.”
You groaned, “You’re a pig.”
“I’ve been called worse.” He winked at you and you felt your heart flutter a bit, a fact that annoyed you. He was so frustrating. Even at a time like this he enjoyed pushing your buttons, something he was painfully skilled at.
“Ok Jeon, you can come with me, but any funny business and I’ll kick your ass,” you said, your brows furrowing.
“Very well, Princess, no funny business,” he smirked, and gestured for you to lead the way. You started crossing the road, heading towards the woods on the other side, recalling that this would be the easiest way to put as much distance between you and the castle as possible.
The next few hours passed quietly as you and Jungkook made your way through the woods, marking trees as you delved deeper into the darkness, the sky having dimmed to a deep shade of blue reminiscent of sapphires. Thankfully the pain in your leg had subsided, and while it had swelled a bit from the continuous walking, your fabric wrap had held up. Right now, the only thing on your mind was the sound of your stomach growling. You had not eaten anything since last night and the hunger was starting to get to you.
“I’m starving. Find me something to eat, Jeon.”
The sound of footsteps stopped as Jungkook turned to face you.
“Are you giving me a command, Princess?” His face was hidden in the darkness but you could feel him raising his eyebrow.
You hesitated for a second, then pressed on, “Yes. I’m hungry.”
“If I recall correctly, you renounced your title not a few hours ago,” he grinned, “But it doesn’t matter anyway. None of that matters when it’s just you and me.”
“I don’t care. Get me something to eat, Jeon. I’m ordering you.” You put your hands on your hips and furrowed your brows, trying to look as intimidating as possible.
Before you realized it, he was so close you could see the glint in his eyes. He brought his face merely inches from yours.
“What makes you think you can order me around, Princess?” As he breathed those last few words, he placed his index finger and thumb on your chin and lifted it so his mouth was right above yours. You could feel his breath against your skin. Your eyes lingered on his lips, which were surprisingly inviting, before meeting his eyes again. Noticing this, Jungkook instantly leaned back and smirked before dropping his hand and swiftly turning away, returning to his path once more.
After a deep exhale you came back to your senses. You puffed out your chest and stomped after Jungkook, wincing again as you realized you hit your hurt leg too forcefully, and groaning as you heard Jungkook chuckling to himself.
“What’s so funny, Jeon?”
“You are, Princess.”
“Hmphh”
He turned around to see you pouting at him, your hands firmly on your hips.
“Are you trying to be cute, Princess? How embarrassing.”
“Be cute-?! Me? For you? Don’t flatter yourself Jeon. The cutest thing you’ll see me do is knock you out.”
“I’d like to see you try,” he retorted, leaning in slightly. You could swear he wanted you to punch him.
You scoffed at him, “Do you turn on your asshole switch for everyone? Or is it reserved for me?”
He sighed, “Never mind, I think I saw a clearing up ahead. Let’s set up camp for the night.”
You pushed past him and saw there was a clearing that would be perfect for tonight. You found a boulder and collapsed beside it, immediately sitting up when you noticed Jungkook’s eyes on you. You folded your arms tightly across your chest and looked away from him, pouting once again without intending to, causing Jungkook to chuckle to himself once more as he started to scan the grounds.
“We can use this log I suppose.” Jungkook began dragging a log to the edge of the clearing underneath one of the trees. Despite your anger, you rose and began gathering long sticks to prop up against the tree for camouflage.
Nearly an hour passed before you and Jungkook finished setting up the makeshift shelter. It wasn’t much but it would have to do for the night.
“Not bad, Princess. Not bad at all.”
You sat down in a huff at one end of the log and put your head down wordlessly. Jungkook laughed again.
“You’re still mad, huh? You know, you’re kind of cute when you’re angry.”
You rolled your eyes. After glancing at you, Jungkook collapsed onto his spot at the other end of the log, humming gently to himself before the sound of crickets took over.
Your anger began to dissipate as the cold night air started to seep into your bones. You glanced down at your legs and began to long for the warmth of your bed at home. You could feel goosebumps prickle your skin. Soon your legs began to shake and you dug your heels into the grass so Jungkook wouldn’t notice. You didn’t want to give him the satisfaction. After a few moments, you settled on staring up into the night’s sky, the countless stars scattered around the crescent moon, the same moon you confided in as a child. You may have changed but the moon was eternal.
You heard shuffling sounds from Jungkook’s side and you didn’t dare look at him. Instead you shut your eyes and hoped for the morning sun to come soon to warm your aching skin.
Suddenly you felt warmth spread from your legs all the way up to your chest. When you opened your eyes you saw Jungkook walking away and lying back down at his end. You looked down at your body and realized Jungkook had taken off his guard jacket and laid it upon you. The warmth from his body lingered on it and you could smell the sweetness of his perfume, the scent of rose petals still fragrant at the edges of his worn out jacket.
“Th-Thanks Jeon,” was all you could manage. His act of kindness startled you. You always assumed he hated you.
“Yeah, yeah. Don’t mention it.”
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye and noticed that his arms were bare, and to your surprise, they were lined with tattoos. You couldn’t help notice the curves of his bicep and how attractive it looked covered in black ink. You turned your head towards him, trying to make out the different shapes and designs, and without warning your eyes started to travel up his body, landing on his sculpted neckline and chiseled jaw. His adam’s apple suddenly moved up and down and you realized he sensed your eyes on him but you couldn’t look away. Your eyes moved higher, finally reaching his face. His skin shone in the moonlight, a sharp contrast to the long dark hair falling over his eyes. He wasn’t bad looking. Ok, fine. He was handsome. Ridiculously, stupidly, annoyingly handsome.
His bicep flexed then his arms rose as he placed his hands under his head.
“The moon is beautiful,” he whispered after a few moments, still looking at the sky.
With your eyes still on him, you responded almost inaudibly, “Hmmm… it is.”
“Life was so much simpler when we were kids.” His voice was so low, as if he was speaking to himself.
“Mhmmm,” was all you could manage in response, your eyelids starting to feel heavy. The warmth of his jacket mixed with the comfort of his presence and the resonance of his voice was enough to make you sleepy.
“I was just a boy and you were just a girl. We could be anything we wanted. No rules. Just us.”
You thought back to when you were kids. You and Jungkook… and Jimin. You three were inseparable. Best friends. But not for long. Once the title of King was given to your uncle after your family’s tragic accident, you weren’t allowed to talk to Jungkook anymore. You begged your uncle not to stop you from Jungkook but he refused. Your uncle only allowed you to be friends with Jimin for reasons that were unclear to you. Despite your protests, your uncle also stopped Jimin from talking to Jungkook and you were sure Jungkook resented you for it.
Because of your uncle’s orders, your interactions with Jungkook were limited. But even on occasions when you could be near him, the nature of his interactions with you suddenly changed. To your disappointment he started to take every opportunity to insult you and you realized he must blame you for everything that happened. You suddenly recalled the countless nights you spent crying to the moon, begging her to return him to you. What started out as a beautiful friendship turned into something very far from it. You no longer recognized your childhood friend and it broke your heart.
You rolled onto your back, looking up at the night’s sky. “Yeah I remember,” you murmured, “before you turned into a monster.”
“A monster-? You think I was the monster?” He scoffed.
“Well, kind of. You hurt me every chance you got.”
“As if you’d notice me otherwise,” he said under his breath. You’re not sure he meant for you to hear that.
A few moments passed silently.
“Hey Jeon…”
“Yeah?”
“Why didn’t you turn me in?”
Uncomfortable silence passed as you turned to look at Jungkook, awaiting his response.
“I don’t know,” he sighed finally.
“You don’t know?”
“Fine,” he huffed, thinking through his next words carefully before responding, “My captain is an asshole. He ordered me to bring you back to him so naturally I didn’t.”
You laughed at this unexpected response, “Yeah I know you and Seokjin have a chaotic relationship. Ok, let’s say that’s true. Why are you helping me now? I’m only slowing you down.”
“Yes,” he conceded, “that is true.” He turned towards you, studying your face before looking into your eyes. You thought you saw a hint of pain before his lips pulled into a smirk.
“Come on, Princess. You and I both know you’re hopeless. You need me,” he boasted, his eyes glancing across your body before he continued, “I mean, look at what you’re wearing. Come on, who wears a dress like that to a prison break?”
The absurdity of the situation hit you and you started laughing. Hard. The first genuine laugh you’d had in months.
Jungkook twisted his body towards you, propping himself on his elbow, his eyes fixed on you as you continued to laugh. He could feel his heartbeat quicken as he watched you. You looked so beautiful, so ethereal in the moonlight, the edges of your white dress reflecting the moon’s rays, perfectly lighting up your sweet face as you laughed without any hesitation. He was surprised anyone could look this beautiful. Watching you brought on a painful ache in his chest, a desperation, a longing he thought he had buried deep within him years ago.
You sighed in satisfaction, a smile lingering on your face as your laughter slowed. You felt his eyes on you and glanced at him, causing him to suddenly clear his throat and lay back down.
He quickly added, “Well, anyway, they’re after us both. It only made sense to join forces.”
“But I don’t understand why you ran, Jeon. You didn’t need to put yourself at risk for me.”
“I wanted to,” he responded immediately, without thinking.
“What? Why would you want that? You never wanted to have anything to do with me.”
“What makes you think that?”
“I guess I always thought you hated me… you know, for stealing Jimin from you.”
“Hated you?” he exclaimed, turning to look at you directly, “You can’t be serious.”
“Well, what else would you call it? You took every opportunity to make me miserable. For all I know, you’re setting me up to turn me in for the bounty,” you fumed, realizing a little too late that you might have crossed the line.
“W-what?! Set you up?!… After all, after all I did?? After everything?? You think s-so little of me,” he stammered, a painful ache rising in your chest as you remembered this little habit of his from many years ago, something you had found so endearing as a kid.
He thought for a moment before yelling out, “You really think I would do that to you?!” You had never heard such fury in his voice before. He slammed his fist on the ground and as he rose to his feet, you noticed tears welling up in his eyes before he walked off into the darkness.
After wandering aimlessly for several minutes, Jungkook found a boulder and sat down, putting his head in his hands. Flashbacks came to his mind from nearly two decades ago, your sweet face looking back at him as he chased you through a meadow, laughter still ringing in his ears. Your helpless screams as your uncle dragged you away from him, tears streaming down your face as you called out his name. The sound of the piano melodies as he stood outside your music room, hoping to catch a glimpse of you on days he was allowed inside the castle.
But within a few months you became cold, distant. And then an image flashed in his mind, the reason why he knew you stopped talking to him: an image of you and Jimin kissing in the stairwell on your birthday, only minutes after he had convinced himself to come see you, a gift of flowers in his hand. After that fateful day, a little over a decade ago, he knew he lost you.
Anger started to bubble in his chest, not at you, but at himself. He felt stupid for giving into his feelings again, feelings he thought he had buried long ago.
“JUNGKOOK!!” Your voice broke his train of thought and before he could process what was happening he was already on his feet, running in the direction of your voice.
You were so angry with yourself. Two guards had found you lying in the grass, easy prey.
“Don’t scream again, Princess Y/N, or we’ll tape up that pretty little mouth,” the shorter guard snickered, tightening his hold on your arm, while the other guard maintained his grip on your other arm.
“Why are you both holding me? You can’t handle me on your own, huh,” you grunted, still struggling against their grip. “Let’s settle this like, uh, women and men,” you yelled. “If you can take it, of course,” you added quickly, hoping they would at least let go of you. They didn’t.
“We’re well aware of your talents, Princess Y/N. We’re not going to take any chances,” the taller guard confessed, eyeing the opening at the end of the clearing.
As you continued to reason with them, Jungkook came running into the clearing nearly out of breath. He stopped directly in front of you and the guards.
Despite the tightness in his throat, Jungkook managed to speak, “Boys, boys. Let’s be civil now. Is that any way to treat a lady?” He looked surprisingly calm for someone moments away from capture.
“Jeon Jungkook,” the taller guard breathed, “I should have known.” He let go of your arm and walked towards Jungkook.
“Hyoseob, hi. How is Sooyoung? And the baby? All is well I hope.”
“Shut it, Jeon. I’m surprised you haven’t run for it yet. The King wants your head for what you did.”
You shot Jungkook a confused look, worry creeping up as you tried to imagine what he could have done.
“Confronting Captain Seokjin about leaving Princess Y/N alone was one thing. And why he didn’t dismiss you for that, I’ll never understand,” Hyoseob scoffed in derision, “But yesterday you went too far. Knocking out those two guards while in pursuit of Princess Y/N is an act of treason. You know that.”
You were stunned. Those guards didn’t lose track of you. Jungkook had stopped them.
You were still processing Hyoseob’s words when Jungkook caught your eye. He glanced at your guard and then winked at you. It took you a few moments to understand.
“You haven’t changed at all, Jeon. Still that same lovesick puppy you always were.”
Oddly enough, Jungkook started to clap.
“What are you doing Jeon?”
“Distracting you.”
With that, you took a quick side step to your left so you could strike the shorter guard’s lower region with full force. As he loosened his grip, you jabbed him in the face. In one swift motioned you crouched down and swept his legs, causing him to land very hard on his back. What you didn’t count on was his head colliding with the nearby boulder, knocking him out cold.
Meanwhile Jungkook had already knocked out Hyoseob and was looking at you with a proud smile.
“Nicely done, Y/N.”
“You too, Jungkook.”
“Wait a second… did you just call me Jungkook again? That’s the second time you’ve called me by my first name.”
“I guess that’s true,” you realized out loud.
“I gotta say, I kind of enjoyed hearing you scream out my name earlier.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help smiling.
“Hold up, is that a smile?” Jungkook teased, smirking at you.
You blushed. You couldn’t let him get one up on you.
Turning to face him directly, you responded, “If anything, Jeon, you would be screaming out my name.” You knew this would shut him up, but you didn’t realize what else this would do to him. Even in the darkness you could swear you could see him blush a little, but before you or he could say anything, a voice came through Hyoseob’s handheld.
“Shin. Shin. Come in Shin Hyoseob. Do you read me?”
“We need to move.”
Jungkook picked up his jacket and draped it over you before grabbing your wrist and pulling you alongside him through the thick woods. It was nearly an hour before either of you dared to speak again.
“Are we ever going to lose them,” you asked anxiously, more to yourself than to Jungkook, who was leading the way through the woods and glancing back at you every few minutes. He hadn’t said anything and you were worried what you both were going to do now. You might be minutes away from being surrounded, it was hard to tell in the darkness.
Jungkook turned to face you and put his hands firmly on your shoulders. “Hey listen to me, Y/N. We will be ok,” he urged, his voice reassuring despite the circumstances.
You paused, realizing you needed to lighten the mood, and pouted, “What, no Princess?”
“Oh, right,” he smiled, before bowing deeply as he cooed, “Deepest apologies, my Princess.” Suddenly you felt butterflies. His princess. Why was such a simple thing making you feel all kinds of things you didn’t want to feel? Not here, not with Jungkook. You took a deep breath and realized you were letting his temporary kindness mess with your head.
You cleared your throat, “Alright, carry on.”
Jungkook smiled and continued along the path. You noticed a faint pink light in the distance and noted it must be dawn now. The only sounds in your proximity were the breaking of twigs as you two stepped through the woods.
“If I remember correctly, there is a path near here that leads out of these woods. Only a handful of your uncle’s men know about it. I’m counting on them to keep their mouths shut but we need to hurry.”
After a few minutes walk, you came across a deep ditch and suddenly Jungkook started bouncing up and down out of excitement, jumping right into it and landing carefully before turning to you and holding out his hand.
“Ok, careful. Give me your hand,” he yelled, noticing your hesitation. You shook your head.
A look of concern crept onto Jungkook’s face.
“Out of the way, Jeon. I can make the jump,” you shouted, trying to convince yourself more than him. He hesitantly stepped aside, and you held your breath before leaping and landing softly right beside him, wincing in pain a bit as pain shot through your right leg.
“You’re not the damsel in distress type, huh?” Jungkook asked, as he looked at you in awe.
“What can I say? I’m a badass,” you replied, smiling proudly.
As you looked around, you realized you weren’t standing in a ditch, but at the entrance of a tunnel. He grabbed your hand and began walking into the tunnel.
“I’m not a child, Jeon. I don’t need you to hold my hand.”
He quickly let go of your hand and continued walking without saying a word.
Nearly half an hour passed wordlessly and you were getting restless. There was enough light in the tunnel to see up ahead but all you saw at the end of it was darkness, as if the tunnel went on forever.
“Jeon.”
“Yeah?”
“How much longer?”
“I think maybe an hour or so.”
“What?!” You exclaimed, stopping dead in your tracks.
“Yes, Princess,” he groaned, “This used to connect our kingdom with the Kingdom of the North. It was abandoned long ago but,” he paused, turning back to face you with a glint in his eyes, “some of us had other plans.”
You suddenly felt sick. “Kingdom of the North? You’re taking me there? To the Prince?” you gasped, breath catching in your throat and the ground starting to feel unsteady beneath your feet. As you brought your hand to your head, you started to shake. “You are turning me in,” you whispered, “I was right…”
