sorry for the silence over here! i spent 7hrs in the ER yesterday (nothing bad to report, no worries!) and my body is sore lol. i’ll try to get some writing done today, but i think my writing time is going to be even more scarce than usual bc my coworker quit the other day and i’m gonna have to pick up his slack until we hire someone new.

scenario: 'it’s okay, i know a shortcut!' says john to charles.

          charles  stands  there,  apprehensive.  he  watches  john  for  a  moment,  not  moving,  and  it’s  not  that  he  wants  to  tell  john  that  he  doesn’t  believe  him,  but…  well,  it  wouldn’t  be  the  first  time  that  john  had  gotten  them  into  hot  water,  and  charles  isn’t  so  sure  how  he  feels  about  short  cuts  in  the  first  place.

          if  he  were  a  proud  man,  he  would  point  out  that  he  is  the  tracker  here;  he  knows  his  way  around  these  parts;  scouted  more  than  probably  anyone  else  in  camp,  but  he  doesn’t  want  to  put  john  down.

          still,  he  can’t  help  but  parrot,  “ a…short  cut…? ”  following  it  with,  “ is  that  really  necessary…? ”

“It’s weird. I never thought I could feel like this, but you showed up. Now, it’s like I don’t wanna go on knowing I might lose the feeling.” Clem @ Louis 🥺💕✨

          louis  had  never  taken  clem  for  the  poetic  type,  but  maybe  he  truly  was  rubbing  off  on  her.  her  words,  while  touching,  were  bittersweet,  and  he  couldn’t  have  her  worried  about  losing  anything  of  what  they  had.

          a  smile  pulled  at  his  lips  as  he  gave  her  shoulder  a  gentle  nudge.  mushiness  ensuing  in  three…two…one…

          “ more  like  you  showed  up, ”  he  corrected  her,  airily.  “ when  we’d  saved  y’all  from  that  car  wreck  i  never  woulda  thought  we’d  end  up  where  we  are  now…  and  i  don’t  wanna  lose  this  feelin’  that  i  feel  for  you  either. ”  he  leaned  in  closer  then,  almost  enough  for  their  noses  to  touch.  “ you’re  the  only  one  who  can  keep  feelin’  what  you’re  feelin’  though.  and  believe  me  when  i  say:  i  plan  on  makin’  it  wayyy  too  hard  for  your  feelings  for  me  to  ever  go  away  so…you  got  nothin’  to  worry  about,  clemster. ”

scenario: luke needs a new outfit or haircut, and kate is here to help.

          his  hair  had  seen  better  days  and  he’d  never  been  one  to  be  good  at  the  up  keep  on  it,  anyhow.  as  a  kid,  his  mother  used  to  cut  his  hair  herself,  since  she  claimed  that  it  saved  money,  but  luke  had  always  wished  she’d  just  take  him  to  a  barber  shop,  just  once.  when  he  was  old  enough,  he  paid  to  get  it  done  professionally,  but,  of  course,  with  his  luck,  it  made  all  too  perfect  sense  that  he’d  wind  up  in  the  apocalypse  with  no  one  around  who  could  cut  his  hair  but  himself.

          the  things  people  took  for  granted;  he  could  almost  laugh  at  irony.

          one  would  think  that  after  being  forced  to  cut  his  own  hair  over  the  years,  he’d  get  better  at  it,  but  no.  despite  it  being  more  grown  out  now,  hanging  just  above  his  shoulders,  the  remnants  of  it’s  uneven  choppiness  could  still  be  seen  if  someone  looked  close  enough.

          “ you  don’t  hafta  do  this, ”  he  told  kate  when  she’d  offered  to  cut  his  hair  for  him.  “ i  ain’t  got  anythin’  to  repay  you  with. ”
