          reconnecting  with  parts  of  her  past  had  been  difficult  for  violet  in  some  regards—namely  after  everything  that  had  happened  with  her  grandmother.  things  really  hadn’t  been  the  same  after  that.  sure,  her  mother  still  worked  herself  to  the  bone,  and  her  father  could  never  bring  himself  to  put  down  the  bottle,  but  the  woman  who  had  all  but  RAISED  violet  was  gone;  never  having  been  the  same  after  the  loss  of  violet’s  grandfather.  and  violet  had  been  sent  to  ericson’s  since  her  mother  didn’t  know  what  else  to  do  with  her—said  she  was  troubled  ( that  something  had  to’ve  been  SERIOUSLY  wrong  with  her )  since  she  hadn’t  immediately  phoned  the  police…something  like  that.

          violet  had  been  sure  that  she’d  never  even  attempt  to  think  back  on  those  days,  or  try  to  revive  the  last,  dying  bit  of  mandarin  she  had  left—until  she  met  clem,  the  two  bonded,  and  became  connected  in  a  way  by  the  language.  slowly,  it  had  started  to  come  back  to  her;  bits  and  pieces,  and  her  language  still  wasn’t  perfect,  but  she  was  trying.

          a  ghost  of  a  smile  graced  her  lips  as  she  approached  clem,  none  too  willing  to  start  the  day,  but  happy  to  see  the  other  nonetheless.
