In March 2018, Peter-Lucas Jones And The Ten Other Staff At Te Hiku Media, A Small Non-profit Radio Station

Māori are trying to save their language from Big Tech
Te Hiku Media gathered huge swathes of Māori language data. Corporates are now trying to get the rights to it

“In March 2018, Peter-Lucas Jones and the ten other staff at Te Hiku Media, a small non-profit radio station nestled just below New Zealand’s most northern tip, were in disbelief. In ten days, thanks to a competition it had started, Māori speakers across New Zealand had recorded over 300 hours of annotated audio in their mother tongue. It was enough data to build language tech for te reo Māori, the Māori language – including automatic speech recognition and speech-to-text.

The small staff of Māori language broadcasters and one engineer were about to become pioneers in Indigenous speech recognition technology. But building the tools was only half the battle. Te Hiku soon found itself fending off corporate entities trying to develop their own indigenous data sets and resisting detrimental western approaches to data sharing. Guarding their data became the priority because the only people truly interested in revitalising the Māori language were the Māori people, themselves.”

Why do clones have different hair colors?

In the clone wars, we see a variety of clones with hair that is not black in color, such as Rex, Gree, and Crys. Here are pictures of them along with commander Cody, who has black hair. There are confirmed cases of blond, red, and brown hair occurring among the clones.

Why Do Clones Have Different Hair Colors?

The most realistic answer as to why they have different hair colors is that the show runners wanted to differentiate between the clones, and hair color is an easy way to do that when all the clones share the same face. Some people believe that the clones dye their hair, but I don’t see this as likely, as we would see roots over time, and also how would they get hair dye?

I was reading about Temura Morrison, and I didn’t realize that he is actually multiracial. He is mostly of Maori descent, but he also has European heritage, mostly from Scotland and Ireland, but also a little from France. All of his grandparents are multiracial, and he has around 1/4 to 1/3 European ancestory.(roughly, his most recent European ancestor is a great grandparent)

So when there are millions of clones, it is likely you have some genetic deviation, either due to chance or to the environmental conditions of their growth or training. So I think it makes the most sense that these varied hair colors are the result of his European ancestry being expressed. Irish people are very likely to have red or blond hair(they make up 30-40% of the Irish population), so the red or blonde hair is possible, if unlikely. However when you have millions of clones, all the genes are going to express themselves somewhere.

This being said, while there is an actual, real world explanation, I doubt this was taken into account by the show runners when deciding to give the clones varied hair color. This was likely just a design choice to differentiate clones from each other, but I still find the real world explanation interesting!
