YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

Summer is the best thing to ever happen to mankind.

Trips to the beach, ice cream dates, late night drives, house parties, the list goes on and on. And who else to spend it with? Of course, your one and only best friend and neighbour since you were four years old, Jake Sim.

Every summer was practically filled with him and him only. Ever since you were kids, you did everything together. Writing up lists and going on adventures, spending nights watching movies et cetera. But this summer, it seemed … different.

Maybe it was the problem of being seventeen. Seventeen is an awkward age. Period. But other than that, you couldn't understand the way he was acting.

Summer always started and ended with him. Always. But this summer, he wasn't anywhere near you. Occasionally popping by and disappearing after nightfall, declining late night movies together or beach trips. Rude!

It just felt weird without him. So, you found yourself turning up in front of his house one day, tapping your foot against the hard floor as you knocked impatiently on the door.

"Y/N?" Jake appeared in front of you, his eyebrows scrunched with confusion.

“Jake,” you smiled innocently at him, which only made him look at you with more confusion.

“Y/N it’s 10 pm?”

“I just wanted to see you,” you admitted, to which you cursed at yourself for letting those words escape your lips so shamelessly because it was something you couldn’t deny.

You could see the way his gaze softened, then proceeded to let out a sigh. “Is it … because I barely hang out with you these days?”

“So, you’re self aware this whole time?” you couldn’t help shooting back, wrapping your arms around yourself as the cold wind brushed past. But even without the wind, you felt your body freezing up from the sudden burst of nerves.

“I’m sorry. I’ve been busy,” Jake frowned, guilt evident on his face. “Wanna come in, we can hang?”

Just as he finished his sentence, his phone buzzed, a notification popped up. Your eyes averted to the screen of his phone, catching a slight glimpse. “1 new message from Grace”

Your heart dropped. You knew Grace. Hell, everyone knew her, she was the cheerleader of your school after all. Miss Popular, Miss Crowned Queen. And Jake was texting her? Your Jake?

“So, Grace, huh?” Was this what he was caught up with all along? You mentally scolded yourself, wondering why you were even thinking about this when it wasn’t even your business to care about in the first place. This unreadable feeling was brewing in your stomach and you didn’t like it at all.

“It’s nothing, really. She texted me lately, that’s all,” he shoved his phone into his back pocket, giving you a reassuring smile. “Still up to hang?”

“Nah, it’s fine. It’s getting late anyway. Tomorrow?” You didn’t know why you said this. It was never too late when it came to Jake.

“Sure. I–uhm–heard there’s a party hosted by this guy called Ethan? Wanna come along?”

You considered for a moment, then nodded. “I’m down.”

“Sweet,” he flashed you that goddamned smile, the one that charmed you until you felt light headed. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow,”

“Cool,” you smiled a little, feeling the air turning still for a second once you locked eyes with him. Your heartbeat quickened, it was as though air was sucked out from your lungs and all you wanted was him.

“W-Wanna come over watch a movie with me tomorrow before the party? I’m home alone all day and we haven’t hung out properly for a while now,” Jake offered, stumbling over his words as he fidgeted his fingers, ears turning slightly pink.

You grinned. “How about the new Spiderman movie?”

He let out a small laugh, returning a big grin back. “You know me too well, huh? Deal.”

“See you tomorrow then, Jakey,” you reached over to ruffle his hair, but before you could fully pull away, he took hold of your wrist.

“I’ve missed you, can’t you stay a little longer?” he whined, swinging your arm gently.

You cursed at him, at his words and the amount of butterflies they’ve caused. “You can’t just say things like that,” you murmured under your breath.

“Hm?” he hummed and you looked up at him.

You dismissed your previous words, hoping he didn’t catch on to them. “Tomorrow we’re hanging out the whole day anyway. By then you wouldn’t be missing me anymore,”

“I miss you every day, though. Stick to my side like the old days?”

“How could I say no, Jakey?” you sighed, your heart thumping louder and louder as seconds passed. “Now, go sleep dumbass, we need to wake up early.”

“Alright, alright,” he threw his hands up in defeat. “Goodnight, Y/N. Don’t stay up too late too, or else you’ll get premature wrinkles.”

“I’ll beat you up.”

“I’d like to see you try.”

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

It felt natural.

You were resting on Jake's chest, his arms around you, a bowl balanced on your stomach, a movie blaring in the background, the lights dimmed. It was natural.

"Peter's pretty dumb sometimes, isn't he?" You spoke up, hand reaching into the bowl of popcorn, feeling Jake's hand brush against yours to get some as well.

You tried to excuse the fact that you were about to choke at the slight contact, playing it cool as you chewed on your popcorn.

"Totally. Why would he even do that?" Jake huffed.

You looked up at him from his chest, admiring his face slightly, not even caring about what misdemeanours Peter Parker was committing.

Jake could feel you staring, and he decided to look down at you, your gazes meeting. This was what you two always do whenever you're watching movies, it should be normal by now, but why in hell were you suddenly nervous?

"Mum wants you to come over for dinner," you whispered to him, reaching up to brush a strand of hair away from his eyes.

"I'm more than glad to do so," Jake pursed his lips, watching your movements closely.

The tension seemed to grow thicker and the movie started to fade into the background as the two of you stayed in this close proximity. You unconsciously glanced at his lips, swallowing thickly once you noticed him reciprocating the same action.

"Y/N-"

"Jake!"

You almost let out a groan, but instead you looked away, clearing your throat and removing yourself from Jake's body. You were absolutely flushed, thinking of the endless possibilities that could've happened. But in the end, nothing did anyway. And that was why you were about to strangle Park Jong Seong for interrupting.

"Jay?" Jake fumbled to sit up, his eyes turning to you before refocusing on Jay. "Is it time to leave already?"

"Duh," Jay rolled his eyes, casually dropping onto the couch beside you. "How are you, Y/N? Been enjoying summer?"

"Quite," you simply shrugged. "Someone over here left me alone after he promised a summer full of adventures," you nudged Jake and he smiled apologetically.

"I got caught up with some things!" He defended but Jay raised an eyebrow at his words.

"Some things or some one?"

"What?" You turned to Jake, trying to mask your disappointment with sheer interest. "Is it Grace?"

"So … you knew?" Jay's eyebrows only raised higher.

"I only found out yesterday, indirectly as well." you said, clearly unimpressed.

Jake rolled his eyes, sighing deeply. "Come on, guys. She only texted me once or twice. I was busy cramming my work, okay?"

"That's true too," Jay nodded in understanding. "You practically procrastinated everything and now it's a pile,"

"Must you remind me of it?" Jake groaned, his attention to you, taking notice of your sudden silence. "You alright there?"

You blinked at him, humming in response. How could you tell him that your stomach churned with jealousy whenever Grace was mentioned? How could you even admit that you're currently harbouring some god forbidding liking towards him? Your childhood best friend? The one who once spilled chocolate milk all over his shirt? The one who cried when he was forced to go back home after a whole day together with you? Jake Sim?

You were fucked. You liked Sim Jaeyun. And you had zero idea what to do about it.

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

The house party was basically like every other one you've been to. Passed out drunks here and there, the dance floor crammed to the max, the music booming loudly in your ears. Overall, you felt regretful coming here.

What made things worse was Jake abandoning you to talk to Grace. Yup, Grace. Even after all the denial he fed to you and Jay, he's still laughing and talking merrily to her, leaving you stuck in the middle of an unfamiliar house.

What a great Friday night!

It was almost midnight, so you decided to storm out of the house for some fresh air before declaring your leave, but Jake somehow caught you sneaking out.

"Leaving so soon?" He was leaning against the wall, watching your tired figure semi-passed out on the chair.

"God, Jake, you reek of alcohol," you pointed out, scrunching your nose at the stench. "Also, I'm not that inconsiderate. I won't leave you behind … unlike someone over here," you grumbled.

"Look, Grace dragged me away the moment I entered. Plus, I think I got to start avoiding her now," Jake groaned, sitting down next to you.

"Broke her heart?" You assumed. It wasn't uncommon to see Jake reject girls and break their heart growing up. Well, look at him, it was a fact that he got girls lining up for him. But you found it weird how he's never had a long term relationship before, which only made you more wary about your feelings for him.

"I wasn't being a douche about it!" He threw up his hands in defence. "I kindly rejected her, that's all. She seemed cool about it though," he shrugged and you felt his shoulder brush against your arm, his thigh making contact with yours.

"Look at you, all grown up and no longer breaking girls' hearts!" You smiled sarcastically at him.

"Hey! I literally rejected all of them in a nice way. I'm a kind man, you know?" Jake huffed, stretching his body, then proceeded to slyly place his arms around you.

You were genuinely trying your hardest to remain the best poker face you could even manage. Yet, you knew the facade would eventually fade. "Sure, sure, Jakey boy."

He turned his body to face yours, a challenging expression written all over his face. "Do you remember the time when we were five and I gave you my legos? I still remember how many hugs you gave me every day after that. So yes, I am kind." Jake insisted.

"You remembered?" You grinned at him, feeling your heart rate increasing once you saw the fondness in his eyes.

"Of course I remembered," he said softly. "You give good hugs anyway."

"Want a hug?" You chuckled, not expecting Jake to actually dive into your arms and hold onto you tightly.

"You smell like strawberries," he murmured against your skin.

You swallowed thickly and started breathing heavily. "A–are you drunk?"

"Just a bit," he pulled away from your body, his brown eyes meeting yours, his hands slowly travelling up to your face.

"Have I ever told you how pretty you are?" He whispered.

"Don't do this," you mumbled, your hand reaching for his wrist.

"What?" He breathed, his warm breath fanning your cheeks.

"Don't make me fall in love with you completely," you stared into his eyes, slight hurt and regret painted your expressions.

"Fuck, why did I say that?" you laughed pitifully at yourself, removing yourself from his arms and stood up. "It's getting late, let's go," you said, ignoring Jake's lingering gaze.

"Y/N," he held onto your wrist and you stood rooted to the ground, not knowing what you could even say or do. You felt like an idiot. "W–what did you mean by that?"

"It's nothing," you dismissed his question, feeling yourself sinking into a deeper hole. Jake furrowed his eyebrows, clearly frustrated. The moment he got up, he stumbled slightly and his words slurred. The alcohol has finally seeped in.

"Y/N, come on," he urged, desperation in his eyes. All you could do was sigh.

"I'm sorry, Jake."

So you did what you always do every summer. You ran from your problems and hid from the fact you had lingering feelings for your "best friend".

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

You found yourself avoiding Jake after that night.

It was ironic how you complained about him disappearing in and out of your life during the start of summer, but here you were, doing the same.

He came over to your house a couple of times, but you chose the cowardly choice of hiding away. All of his texts and calls were half answered.

You hated doing this, you knew it was hurting both you and him. But what could you do? Confess? Well, it was the most obvious way to solve the problem, but you were unwilling to risk a life long friendship with him. Pathetic you were indeed.

The weekend rolled around the corner and you just had to face one demise after another. Jake and his family were coming over for dinner and there's zero chances for you to dodge him this time. Thank you, Universe, you thought sarcastically.

Your palms felt clammy and sweaty as you set up the table. Before this, your mother had specifically requested you to present yourself more formally instead of wearing your typical sweats, so now you were stuck in a black skin tight dress, just appropriate enough to not be deemed as slutty.

"They're here!" your mother announced, clapping her hands in excitement. You, on the other hand, were only filled with nothing but dread.

The door flew open and hugs were exchanged. Your mother squealed happily when she saw Jake and for a moment, you were about to do the same.

His hair was slicked back, only a strand was left hanging in front of his face. He was wearing a formal black suit paired alongside a simple black tie. He was about to be the death of you.

"Y/N." He nodded at you, lips pressed in a straight line.

"Jake." You replied back, hands kept behind your back, trying to conceal the fact that you were actually fidgeting.

"You kids are matching!" Mrs Sim pointed out, laughing delightfully.

You felt Jake's eyes on your body for a tense moment, sensing them scanning you from top to bottom. You met his gaze once he finished checking you out so blatantly, and all he did was smile at you innocently. Jerk. He knew exactly what he was doing.

"Why don't you kids go hang out yourselves?" Your mother patted your arm.

"Sure," Jake shrugged, smoothing out the fronts of his blazer.

"Great!" Your mother beamed, then leaned down to whisper to you. "Don't do anything weird, okay?"

You grimaced. "Ew." Must your own mother put the mental image of you doing something 'weird' with Jake into your mind?

You turned around, practically dashing up the stairs towards your room. And as always, Jake followed you like a lost puppy. Once he shut the door to your room, he faced you with a blank expression, devoid of any signs of what he's about to say.

"So? Are you going to explain why you were ignoring me?" Jake leaned against the door, his hands in his pockets as he stared at you, unimpressed.

"What if I don't?" you replied, sitting on the edge of your bed.

"I'll force it out of you somehow, you know I always get my way," he replied nonchalantly and you only rolled your eyes at him, knowing how he wasn't completely wrong.

Jake seemed to have noticed your silence and decided to break the ice first. "I remembered that night, Y/N. You can't hide away from me forever just because of what you said."

You groaned, burying your face into your hands, completely flushed with embarrassment. "Must you remind me?"

"How can I forget about it when my best friend literally told me she loves me?" He kneeled in front of you, taking your hands in his. "Can't you just tell me how you feel? It's been days and nights since I felt at peace after what you'd said to me. What's worse is that I couldn't even remember it precisely. So please, just make it clear."

"Fine. Jake, I–"

"Y/N!"

You wished you could blow up right this instance. Out of every second, every minute, your mother just had to call you when you were about to come clean about your feelings. If you could, you would've liked to reach for the nearest pillow and scream into it.

"Well … next time, Jakey boy. Dinner calls!"

Before Jake could respond, you exited your room quickly, ignoring your thumping heart as you replayed everything in your mind.

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

Dinner was awkward.

Parents asking about each other's kids' situations and having deep conversations about life while Jake and you, on the other hand, were avoiding each other's gazes. Not ready to face whatever that had just happened.

You thought your torment was finally over when dinner ended and you found yourself dipping your legs by the pool when Jake silently joined your side, following your actions.

"You okay?"

You turned to look at him, kicking your legs slightly, you felt your shoulder brushing against his, thighs touching. "I'm fine. Just a little tired. Why?"

"Nothing. It was just that you were barely speaking all dinner and I got concerned," Jake pointed out and you shrugged nonchalantly.

"Everything's … complicated these days," you said.

At your words, Jake shifted a little. He knew what your "complicated" meant, it was about you and him.

"What even are we?" Jake spluttered out and you froze beside him, the water temperature suddenly dropping to 0 degrees.

"You really want to talk about that now?" You mumbled, frowning.

"Then when can we even face it? I'm tired of you running away and me being in the dark," Jake argued, turning his body to face you.

"Jake …" you were rendered speechless, your body still, guilt clawing its way into your system. "I just don't think I'm ready yet, okay?"

Jake seemed frustrated at your comment. "Y/N–"

"JAKE!"

It was his mother calling out for him and you heard him swearing under his breath. "Next time, Y/N. I'll wait for you."

With that, he left, leaving you completely dazed. He'll wait?

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

"Can you please come? They literally have a pool!"

Thursday night you found yourself at peace knowing nothing will ruin your weekend, until Jay's phone call. Being the party goer he was, he's now trying to convince you to tag along to some guy's party.

"What if I said no?"

"I don't take 'no' as an answer,"

"Tough luck, champ,"

"Come on, Y/N," Jay whined. "Everyone is going. I mean, Jake is, and that cute guy you mentioned from school — Heeseung — was it? He's there too. You can shoot your shot!"

You thought about it for a moment as you cursed Jay for being way too convincing. "Fine. Since you asked so nicely."

"I know I could always count on you."

Safe to say the party was going considerably well and you weren't about to leave just after arriving for only a solid 15 minutes. Jay remained by yourself for the whole time, conversing with his own circle of friends while your eyes searched for a specific somebody among the sea of people.

“I’ll go for a dance,” you nudged Jay, trying to get his attention.

“Be safe.” he simply said, but his words were filled with genuinity.

A couple cups of drinks definitely boosted your confidence as you shamelessly swayed your hips to the music playing in the background. The blinking lights blinded your sight, alcohol clouded your thoughts, unknowing to someone sliding close to you. Thankfully, your sixth sense never failed and you turned to meet the gaze of Lee Heeseung.

“Hey,” he casually greeted.

“Hi,” you breathed out, sudden shyness taking over.

“Wanna dance?” he offered and you nodded meekly. “Follow my lead,” he held onto your arms, circling them over his shoulder.

“Is this okay?” Heeseung whispered and you nodded once more.

You couldn’t believe this was happening. The cute guy from school was in fact dancing with you. You let yourself let go as you closed your eyes and swayed along to the beat of the music. This was heaven.

No matter how you tried to shake off that weird feeling, it never went away. You knew someone was staring at you, burning little holes into the back of your head intensely. You opened your eyes, letting them adjust to the startling lights and almost immediately, you locked gazes with him.

Lo and behold, Jake Sim, sitting across the room, his jaw clenched, eyebrows furrowed. He was clearly unhappy about whatever you were doing, and you loved the effect you had on him.

You smiled innocently, leaning close to Heeseung's ear. "I'm going to take a break. See you at school?"

Heeseung grinned at you. "Sure thing. I had fun dancing with you."

"Likewise."

Thankfully, you managed to waddle your way through the crowd alive and made your way out of the house for some fresh air. The atmosphere inside of the house was too heavy and the smell of sweat and cheap alcohol stuck in the air.

"Running away from me again?"

A voice came from behind you and you knew who it was immediately.

"Not everything is about you, okay?" You grumbled, hugging your arms around your body for warmth as you sat down on the front steps.

Jake joined your side, placing his hands on his knees, glancing at you from time to time. “Care to explain why you’re actively avoiding me?”

“I’m not,”

“Liar.”

You remained silent, not knowing what to say next.

“You were dancing real close to Heeseung tonight,” he pointed out.

“Great observation, Sherlock,” you finally dared to turn to look at him. “Can we head back in? I’m craving for a drink,”

Jake only nodded soundlessly, following your movements as you stood up to head back in. You felt bad, guilty even, at the way you’re acting towards your lifelong best friend, but you couldn’t help it, your emotions were basically choking you hard. You tugged on Jake’s shirt, ready to say something.

“Jake—” Just when you two entered, Jake was pulled away, not even sparing a second for you to process, so now you were alone.

“Great,” you mumbled unhappily under your breath, making your way to the drinks in the kitchen. Maybe they’ll console you instead. You genuinely wondered who’d cursed you countlessly whenever you were trying to confront Jake.

To your dismay, the kitchen was filled with drunk teenagers who were all busy mixing their new anecdote for the night. Plan B, not the kitchen.

You left for the living room instead, grumbling in annoyance since you couldn't get a drink. As you were about to turn a corner, you heard voices, very familiar ones and immediately halted your steps.

“You ditched Grace?” Park Sunghoon, the notorious figure skater who everyone was pining for, hissed.

Jake hummed.

“Is it because of Y/N?” Sunghoon asked, an undertone of suspicion laced in his voice.

"I don't like her like that," Jake murmured under his breath.

You froze. This couldn't be happening now, right? Out of any day, any place, it just had to be in a house, in the middle of an ongoing party. To be frank, you've already prepared yourself to face rejection every time you imagined confessing to Jake. But overhearing Jake's negative confession was surely not in your list.

"You're serious?" Sunghoon poked on.

"I don't know, man." Jake sighed in defeat. "Can we not talk about this now?"

You blinked away the confusing feelings you were currently having. Was it anger? Was it sadness? Was it hope? You couldn't tell. All you wanted was to be home, in your cosy bed.

There were many things you were afraid to do in life, such as talking to boys your age, socialising, confronting your crush and so on, but today, right now, you had zero regrets as you continued your steps, walking past Jake.

It was all white noises in your ears and blissful ignorance. Jake was calling after you, trying to reach you, but the crowd only ended up swallowing him whole.

Once you were out of the house, you found yourself finally breathing again, suddenly thankful for the fresh air. But there's a rather unfortunate problem for you, Jake caught up with you.

"Y/N," he breathed.

"Fuck off," you snapped, an overwhelming wave of emotions clawing in your body.

"Listen to me, I didn't mean that," Jake's voice rose unintentionally.

"Yeah? So you're expecting me to be totally fine as if nothing happened?" You frowned. "Well, hi Jake, how was the party? Not good? Why-"

"Stop! Why are you even acting like this?" Jake grabbed ahold of your shoulders, making you stare directly at him as he could tell you were about to flee at any minute.

"Because–" You shrugged his hold away. "I like you, Jake! Ever since we were fifteen. But you were always so clueless to tell. And this summer, you were basically too hung up over Grace to spend time with me, then that night when you said those things to me, do you expect me to act oblivious after that? And today, you said those words … how am I supposed to know how you feel?"

You couldn't tell what Jake was thinking. He practically had a poker face on, seemingly trying to take in everything you've just said. "Y/N …"

"What do you want from me, Jake?"

Jake took a deep breath, his features ridden with frustration as he burst out.

"I want you. Okay? Happy now?"

To say you were stunned was clearly an understatement. You didn't know what to say or act, staring at him with your mouth ajar.

"I–I have liked you since we were kids and I don't think I realised until this summer," Jake went on, clearly rambling in distress. "That's why I avoided you, Y/N. I was scared. I didn't know why I felt like that or what I should do. In the end, I figured it was you. It was always you, no matter what."

"Then have me, Jake."

"What?"

It was one of those moments where it felt entirely out of a movie. Jake could only stare at you wordlessly while you breathed heavily, a million thoughts running through your head and you’ve finally accepted it.

Oh no, you’ve fallen in love.

“Just shut up and kiss me,” you grumbled under your breath, taking his face into your hands and pulling him in for a kiss.

When your lips touched, it felt as if countless emotions and unspoken words from over the years passed through like a connection. It felt right. Jake slid his hand around your neck, pulling you deeper into the kiss. This was absolute bliss.

You put your hand on his wrist, pulling away gently, eyes not leaving one another for even a second. The two of you pant softly, trying to catch a breath from the kiss and you started to shy away, in disbelief that this actually happened. Jake noticed, smiling a little, leaning down to press a gentle peck against the side of your mouth.

“Wanna stay over at mine tonight? I can drive,”

“You already know the answer to that.”

YOU ARE IN LOVE S.JY

Laying in his bed with the lights off accompanied by the whirring of the A/C played in the background, his arms wrapped around you, the beating of his heart against your back, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest, it was something familiar yet so new.

You turned around to face him, watching as he rubbed his eyes, stirring awake slightly. It was still dark outside, but Jake couldn’t fall asleep, finding himself treasuring your presence instead. You were brushing loose strands of hair away from his face when a strange look appeared and he spoke, voice sluggish.

"You're my best friend."

Somehow, you understood what he meant and you knew what it was. He is in love.

## Marriage Discount. P. Sunghoon

sunghoon was annoyed lately. everyone he knows is getting married, so it annoyed the hell out of him. oh, don’t get him wrong. he’s not annoyed because everyone is getting married but him. he’s annoyed because of the fact that weddings are so much work and have to spend money for decency. speaking of money, he’s almost out of it.

sunghoon recently just got promoted in his job and had a raise, but the money just went by a snap because of the said weddings. he had to buy a tux, and it’s the only tux he’s been wearing in weddings. he just attended one the day before, now he’s here in the dry cleaning shop to have his tux cleaned. next month will be jay’s wedding.

he’s happy for them, he really is. and heeseung, too. heeseung recently reconnected with flower and he was insanely happy about it, but sunghoon can’t help, but think that it would heeseung’s wedding next and his money is out again.

“good morning, sir!” the employee greets. he was a bit younger than sunghoon, probably riki’s age or younger. sunghoon mumbles a hello, giving the boy his tux. “where’s your wife, sir?”

“what?” sunghoon asks.

“it’s just, we have a discount for married people.” the boy says and sunghoon, of course, will do anything for discounts. so, when the next person pushes the door open to get in, he wasn’t even thinking.

“there she is.” sunghoon says, pointing at you causing you to stop. he nervously looks at you as you just look between him and the employee.

“what?” you say, raising an eyebrow at him.

sunghoon’s doomed.

“i’m just asking him where his wife is, ma’am. he said it’s you?” the boy asks for confirmation and you look at the man who said that you’re his wife. hm. he’s fucking gorgeous, why not?

“he’s cute.” you mumble under your breath, but you knew they both heard when the man’s cheeks started to grow red. “sure, yeah!” you say and the boy raises an eyebrow. “i just like complimenting my husband. what is this even about?” you ask, chuckling nervously.

“we have discount for married people, ma’am.” he says and sunghoon swears he saw your eyes shine when you heard the word discount.

“really?” you ask and he nods. sunghoon softly smiles when he watches you. “how much?”

“20%.” the employee answers and you nod. “but ma’am, i don’t see any ring on either of you.”

sunghoon softly curses under his breath, but of course, just like sunghoon, you would do everything for discounts. “we pawned them last week.” you lie and sunghoon looks at you. “you know how tough life is lately.”

“right, i’m sorry. is this tux and that gown all you have for dry cleaning?” he asks and you look at sunghoon.

“yup, that’s all.” he says as you give the gown to the employee. he immediately hangs it on the rack along with sunghoon’s tux and puts it together. “it will be ready in 24 to 48 hours. you can pay for it by then when we text you to pick it up. can i have any of your numbers?”

“sure.” sunghoon says as he takes the pen and paper that the employee gave. “okay, thank you.” he says and the boy says thank you as well. you and sunghoon come out of the dry cleaning shop, turning to the left right away.

“i’m sorry about that—”

“no, no! i needed the discount, too. i should be thanking you.” you say and sunghoon laughs, shaking his head. “you don’t have anyone, do you?”

“no, no!” sunghoon says, shaking his head. “you?”

“no,” you say, chuckling. sunghoon clears his throat, nodding as he doesn’t know what to say anymore, but he needs your number. he was about to speak when you beat him to it. “there’s this bakery that sells these insanely expensive cakes, but they’re good. they give discounts to married couples.”

sunghoon smiles. “is it that bakery just downtown?” he asks and you nod, smiling. “we need rings, first.” he says and you chuckle. sunghoon talks to you as he drags you to an apartment building, exchanging names, numbers and information that you two need to know about each other until you two started talking about the most random things.

turns out, you were in the same university as he was.

“really? for discounts, you’re pretending to be married to someone you barely know?” sunghoon friend says, then he looks at you. “please don’t take offense, you seem like a lovely person.” he says and you laugh lightly, shaking your head.

“none taken, i know how it sounds.” you say.

“as if you didn’t take flower as a freebie in jay’s bouquet six years ago.” sunghoon says and his friend glares at him. “you barely knew her that time, yet you still did.”

“i didn’t take her as my wife!” he defended and sunghoon only raised his eyebrow at his friend. “and you know i can’t lend you their wedding rings, jay will fucking kill me.”

“how about the wedding rings you bought for you and flower?” sunghoon asks and his friend sighs. “i’ll return it safe and sound, not even a scratch. i promise. and like, let’s be real, you wouldn’t propose right away when you two reunite.”

“excuse me?” he says.

“come on, it took you a century to admit you like flower.” sunghoon says and he feels a poke on his arm. he looks through his shoulder to see you shaking your head.

“not helping.” you say and his friend sighs for the hundredth time. “and you know what? there’s an arcade somewhere where there’s a wedding booth for some reason, let’s just ask them for some fake rings.”

“no, no.” his friend says, turning around to go to the nearby desk and pulling a drawer out. he grabs a velvet red box, giving it to sunghoon who is holding his hand out. but his friend pulls his hand back. “listen,” he says and sunghoon hums. “you’re going to be careful with this, you’re going to return it to me in the same state that it is, you’re not losing this, and you owe me, okay?”

“yes, daddy.” sunghoon says, jokingly, raising his eyebrows and his friend shakes his head, rolling his eyes as he gives sunghoon the box. “thank you!” sunghoon laughs as he turns around, exiting the apartment as he grabs your hand on the process.

“thank you by the way!” you exclaim and sunghoon’s friend nods. you jog along with sunghoon as you two stop outside of the building. sunghoon puts the ring on you as he puts the other on him. “wait, was that lee heeseung?” you ask.

“yeah!” sunghoon says. “why?”

“i just remembered the one time i was in flower’s aunt’s shop. she was there with him helping her, but he wasn’t much of a help, actually. he was just goofing around and clinging on flower, trying to pull her away from her work. he kept saying he wanted to go to the movies with her.” you say, remembering six years ago as clear as a day.

sunghoon smiles. “i bet flower said something about kicking seungie’s ass?”

“she did. heeseung stopped and flower just glared at him, putting the flowers down and grabbing her coat, causing heeseung to smile widely.” you laugh, shaking your head. sunghoon chuckles. “anyway, bakery?”

turns out, not only did the bakery give you a discount, they gave the cake for free and with some drinks. the employees were pretty convinced you two were recently married. sunghoon was just thanking the universe that you were the one who entered that dry cleaning shop.

“well, free lunch. that was great.” you said, walking out of the bakery with sunghoon holding your hand in his. he laughs, nodding.

“and heeseung thought we were insane.” sunghoon says to which you nod, chuckling. “so… would you mind going around for a bit?” he asks, stopping as he faces you. “i kinda wanna see what more we can abuse with this thing.” he says, pointing at the ring on his finger. you laugh, nodding.

“sure, of course. you wanna see, i don’t know, there?” you say, pointing at an arcade. you look at sunghoon who was just looking at you to which you smiled.

that was the whole day. you two went around town to see if you can get any discounts, even with the stuff you don’t even know. you both acted like a married couple and it was honestly nice. and hey, sunghoon even got a discount for his wedding gift for jay.

around 11 in the evening, you and sunghoon were silently walking on the way to your apartment. not that you two were tired of talking and got tired of each other, but it felt nice being in comfortable silence with each other as sunghoon softly holds your hand in his. he insisted on walking you home to which you, of course, did not decline.

park sunghoon is pretty damn cute, after all.

you never know why you never noticed him back in college.

“this is me,” you softly say, stopping as you gesture on the building and sunghoon nods, smiling at you. “today was pretty fun.”

“it was nice being your husband for a day.” sunghoon says and you laugh, nodding. you remove the ring from your finger, giving it to sunghoon as he takes it and puts it in the box, along with his. “i’ll text you when we can get our tux and gown from the dry cleaning place.”

you nod. “thank you, sunghoon.” you softly say and he smiles. you sigh, nodding as you start to walk into the building, but sunghoon was quick to stop you.

“hey, y/n?” he calls.

you turn around right away. “yeah?”

sunghoon gives a soft gentle smile which he gives when he’s shy. “you maybe wanna,” he clears his throat, shrugging. “i don’t know, go on a date after we get them from the dry cleaning place?”

“sure, why not.” you softly say.

“i’ll pay this time.” sunghoon says with a smile. “no pretend marriage for a discount, but as two people on a date where we… get to know more about each other.”

you smile.

“and then, i don’t know,” sunghoon chuckles, shrugging. “from there maybe we can see where it goes.”

“i would love that.” you say, nodding. “um, you have my number, just text me.”

he nods, smiling. you keep your hands in your pocket, smiling as you nod. you were about to go inside, but you stop, turning around to sunghoon and walking up to him. you press a kiss on his cheek, smiling up to him through your lashes.

sunghoon, like the entire day, didn’t know what he was thinking. he leans in, pressing his lips against yours as impulsiveness takes over him. he pulls away, looking into your eyes filled with shock. he nervously chuckles, shrugging.

“i’m sorry.” he apologizes. “i just couldn’t wait for the date, you looked too beautiful up close.”

you chuckle, shaking your head as you bashfully look away, hand on your mouth to cover up your smile. a guy who you didn’t know went to the same university with whom you went around town pretending to be married to get discounts just kissed you.

the guy you know for less than 24 hours has kissed you.

and you wanted to do it again.

you looked at him, chuckling as a big grin grows on your lips. “one more,” you say, holding your hands out to cup his cheeks. sunghoon softly laughs, hands on your elbows as he presses his lips against yours as he feels you kiss back.

eventually, you two had to pull away as you two were smiling too wide, sunghoon resting his forehead against yours. “alright, good night.” you mumble and sunghoon smiles.

“good night.” he softly says and you smile as you pull away, turning around to go inside the building. sunghoon turns around when you’re out of sight, smiling to himself as he walks home.

he stops when he hears his phone ping, he takes it out and reads the message. it was from the dry cleaning place. they can get it tomorrow before lunch right away. sunghoon grins as he goes home.

too excited to see you again.

and who knows, maybe the next wedding he will attend after jay’s is finally his own.

txt masterlist part one - I am not hiking

.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・. .・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・.

Once more the holiday season came and went. Yet another year went by in the blink of an eye. And somehow you were still right where you had started the year, actually every year since you had met Soobin if you were being honest.

Tragic. That’s what you were, that’s what you felt, that’s what it was, you realized.

It was tragic, and not the tragically beautiful that so many moving romances have been throughout history, just a sad kind of tragic. The type where you look at the person and shake your head at how pathetic they look, still pining after the person they love after years of having it be unrequited.

You were sitting alone, occupying a corner away from the people chatting away in the rest of the house and enjoying the New Year’s Eve party you were attending. It was snowing outside and you were watching the ice rainfall in the light of the streetlights through the window facing the street outside, your eyes following as the tragic little flakes descended to the dark ground.

“Life’s rough, I know little snowflakes,” you cried out in a whiny tone towards the dark window.

Currently, you were also downing your fifth (or maybe eighth) drink for the evening and you were finally beginning to forget some of your troubles. This usually wasn’t something you did, but this New Year’s eve you needed it so as to not betray yourself. This year things would change. No more pining over him, not another year of getting your hopes up only to have that hope crushed over and over again. You were done, and you needed to have something to hold your hand as you entered this new year with enough force to actually manage to do what you were promising yourself.

You would get over him, even if it meant being completely wasted as the fireworks went off and having Yeonjun drag you home to get you into bed without becoming a popsicle in the snow somewhere.

At least he would be there for you when you were crying over something that never even was. You had never actually told him about how you felt for your friend, but he knew. Somehow he’d always known and you didn’t know if it was better or worse that he had seen you pine after the man without getting anything in return for years. Everything about this whole thing was just so embarrassing, you thought as you remembered every instance where you had made a complete fool of yourself only to be heartbroken time and time again.

You were in the middle of wallowing, sipping on your drink, tears threatening to well out of your eyes as you let the snow hypnotize you while pitying yourself when you felt a soft bump hit your knee.

Who is disturbing my pity party? was what went through your mind as you tried to pull back the tears in the corner of your eyes and prepared yourself to try and have a somewhat normal interaction with whoever was trying to reach through your gloomy mood.

Of course, when you looked up you saw the one person you had wished to the heavens wouldn’t come to find you tonight. Couldn’t he have just bothered someone else with his beautiful fucking face and sweet conversations?

It’s so unfair! you thought as you looked at him maneuver around you. How am I supposed to get over you tonight when you come here looking like that with your fucking hair pushed back too!! My weakness!!!

You wanted to scream, shout, cry, and throw the biggest tantrum ever seen by presumably anyone in the room.

“What’s up, why are you staring at the snow?” Soobin asked as he sat down next to you in your corner of sadness and solitude.

“I’m just staring at it falling to the ground, dying over and over again, freezing and falling and blowing through the dark night.” you sighed, melancholia filling your entire being.

It was nonsense, but you didn’t even care, your voice was already telling him just how drunk you were and the words and the way you moved your entire body like a marionette puppet trying to control its limbs only told him that it was time to call in the boys and intervene before you passed out. He looked over, searching the room for someone to wave over, but when his gaze landed back on your sullen face his expression softened and he simply sighed.

“Just how much have you had to drink tonight?” he questioned, his gaze soft and understanding as he watched you try and remember what drink you were on. But it was only making you feel suffocated. You didn’t want him to be there right now, not when you were feeling just as hopeless as the snow that landed on the wet ground and dissolved into nothing in the blink of an eye.

“Don’t fucking look at me like that,” you muttered, shocking Soobin who flinched at your hard tone and your harsh words. He didn’t understand, and he didn’t know how to respond either, so he just looked at you, meeting your hardened gaze.

“Are you okay? Did something.. did anything happen?” he finally managed to say while he searched your face for any answers as to why you were acting like you were.

You couldn’t help but laugh at his question, “Did something happen? Well no, I guess nothing happened, nothing at all, for years. Nothing.”

Soobin’s brows knitted together, more confused now than before. Meanwhile, you were beginning to face reality, a sort of drunken clarity filling you and making you see what you had been avoiding all this time. Maybe it’s time to just get it out and over with, maybe that will make it go away, you thought as you drew in a deep breath.

“I liked you,” you said, plain and clear, making Soobin’s confused expression drop from his face in a second.

You chuckled like someone who has absolutely nothing left to lose in life before you began speaking again, Soobins full attention on you, needing more from you. An explanation, an apology, a laugh telling him it was all a cruel joke, literally anything. His eyes were panicked and pleading for you to say something.

“I have loved you for years and this is the year where it stops, no more pining after you,” you began and looked straight at him, the liquid courage apparently working even better than you had expected. “No more of me looking at you not seeing me loving you, and absolutely no more of these fucking butterflies that I feel anytime I think something might change. Because of course they never will! They were never going to! I was just too fucking delusional and in love with you to realize that I never had a chance in hell!” you rambled, slurring your words every so often and revealing just how much you had been drinking for you to be outing your feelings like this.

Soobin was staring at you, his jaw on the floor and eyes wide and unresponsive, he was in complete shock over your sudden announcement and his mind was running at a thousand miles per hour.

Now you sat there in silence. Waiting for what felt like hours.

“What the fuck do you mean?!” he finally exclaimed, snapping you out of your own head, making you realize what you had actually just confessed and it wasn’t something you had imagined, but it didn’t even matter. It was honestly better that he knew since you would most likely be in one hell of a state for the coming weeks while you tried to keep this New Year’s promise of yours.

“I have loved you for literal years, what do you mean you love me too?!” he finally continued, his words sinking in slowly and shaking you to the core as you understood what he was telling you. You rose from your slouching position in shock.

“YOU have loved ME for years? I have loved YOU for years!” you shouted, making a couple of heads turn your way, luckily the music was at a volume where it was impossible to hear too much of anyone’s conversations, even if they were being shouted. Hence, the heads soon turned back around without a second thought as to why you two were loosing your minds in the corner of the bustling party.

But then a thought hit you, he was playing with you. You didn’t know why, but you were absolutely convinced and your critical thinking skills were currently on vacation and there was nobody but the man in front of you there to argue against the whispers in your head telling you that he was lying to you. Trying to trick you because there’s no way he could’ve loved you back this entire time.

“You’re lying, that’s not possible. You never said anything, you never even did anything when I was giving you all the signs to do something, anything at all! So no, I don’t believe you.”

He scoffed, “I am not lying. How could you think I would lie about something like this to you?”

“So why? Why did you never do anything? Why did you never tell me?” you questioned him, your entire demeanor rather aggressive and accusing.

“What about you? You never did or said anything either,” he retorted, his own tone much less accusing and more giving you a sense of exhaustion.

“I didn’t want to ruin our whole friendship, and you literally said last year that you could never date a friend! So I just assumed that you weren’t lying back then either, but maybe you just lie all the time, good to know,” you said in one long breath and pursed your lips when you were done.

Your tone was incredibly salty, and the words almost felt like they were stinging your mouth as you accused him without restraint. You were getting increasingly pissed off at the whole situation, the alcohol in your blood not precisely helping you to rein in your emotions.

“What? I- Oh.”

You looked away from him, not able to keep eye contact with him as he realized what you were talking about, life slowly draining from his face as he understood what you had been thinking this entire time.

“I didn’t mean that. I mean I tried to mean it, at the time I was really trying to get over you since you literally never seemed to show any interest in me. But I didn’t… mean it.”

“You tried to get over me at the time? Then what? Did you just go an entire year after we almost kissed, knowing I was interested in you and you just never said anything at all?”

“No, I- I tried so many times, but…”

“But? But what?”

“But every time I just chickened out just as I was about to say something, because maybe I was wrong about what happened last New Year’s, and maybe I was imagining the looks and maybe you didn’t actually feel anything for me after all…”

“That day, this summer, when we were supposed to be hiking… You- did you know? Did you know how much I wanted you to tell me, to give me a sign that I wasn’t imagining the closeness, the intimacy?” you said with an exasperated and genuinely confounded expression.

“I didn’t think you felt it, but I- I wanted to say something but then it just wasn’t the moment. And afterward, you just ignored me for so long, I thought maybe you had felt uncomfortable and that you were avoiding me.”

You couldn’t ignore just how sad he looked as he confessed what he had been going through alongside you all this time. The rage suddenly just lifted off of you, maybe it was the sadness in his eyes, or maybe it was the realization that something was changing between you, but the rage you had felt was now just gone.

“I was mad at you for playing with my feelings, but I convinced myself you were just unaware of it, but I was still mad for some reason. I was never uncomfortable though, just… wanting.”

“Wanting,” he scoffed, “yeah, I know that feeling, It always feels like nothing you do matters because you will always just feel unsatisfied, never getting what you actually need.”

You chuckled, fuck, you had really been going through the same shit this entire time, neither of you brave enough to risk anything, neither of you brave enough to just fucking do something about it.

When you looked at his nervous expression, his hands clinging onto the glass in his hand and his eyes searching yours for a clue as to what you were thinking.

“So you… you love me?” you asked, a small smile playing at the corner of your mouth along with a glimmer in your eye as the melancholy and sadness left your mind, being replaced with something much more hopeful.

He laughed at your sudden shift in tone and expression, “I fucking love you, and I’m an idiot for not telling you sooner. I swear, if I had just done shit differently we wouldn’t have been going through all this, and we could’ve…”

His sentence was left unfinished as he stared back at you, the smile on your face growing bigger by the second.

“Yeah, we could’ve…” you continued.

“And what if I still…?” he asked

“What if I still do too?”

“We could…”

His smile was now matching yours, hope filling his expression just like yours.

“We…”

But you never finished your sentence, you never had the intention of trying, because you were now leaned over the cushions in between you, pressing your lips to his. Just before your lips met you looked into his eyes, and within you saw a flash of something indescribable before you felt his lips on yours; soft and plump and so incredibly perfect.

You continued kissing, his lips moving in perfect harmony with yours, your tongues sloppily caressing each other’s, and hands moving across your body in an intoxicating movement.

Time seemed to have stopped, but it simultaneously felt as if it was running away from you. All that wasted time of you two loving one another, separately, all that time was accumulating in this very moment.

You could loosely register a couple of “Oh my gods!” from where you had last spotted your friends along with a “Finally,” from Yeonjun. You were going to kick all of their asses… at some point… because right now, you were busy and there was no way you would let go of these lips anytime soon.

Time had been lost long ago when a sudden bang caught both of your attention. The fireworks had begun going off, the entire room was yelling out numbers in a countdown, the New Year was approaching and there you were, placed atop Soobin. You looked out at the fireworks filling the sky. What had once been this horrid and drab view where you sat and wallowed just a while ago, was now filled with sparks and shining colors covering everything within your view.

Both of you looked equally as surprised as to where the time had gone, but his puffy lips, tinted red from the kisses you had bestowed on them, made you smile widely. Your face lit up and his followed suit soon after, both of you smiling as you pressed a small kiss to his lips before placing your head against his.

“Happy new year…” you said and even though the rest of the room was screaming at the top of their lungs he answered you back even though there was no way either of you could’ve heard what the other was saying. You felt content knowing things were indeed changing this year, in unexpected ways, but changing nevertheless.

“it’s all your fault! now we can’t go out because of you!”

hyunsuk accusingly stated, furrowing his brows as he looked out the window before turning to look at you.

“oh, suddenly am i some water god?” you challenged, crossing your arms over your chest as you playfully glared at him. “how could i possibly make it rain, idiot? that’s ridiculous!”

the blond chuckled at your reaction, sitting next to you as you both stared out the window, silently listening to the pitter-patter of the rain. “well, that cancels out our walk in the park,” he mumbled, linking your arms as you rested your head on his shoulder.

“what will we do then?” you asked, tracing random shapes on your best friend’s hands as you waited for suggestions. “obviously we can’t go out in this rain.”

“wait, i think i saw yoshi buy some temporary hair dye!” hyunsuk exclaimed, eyes widening in excitement. “maybe we can color my hair!”

just like two excited little kids, you and hyunsuk sneaked into yoshi’s room in the dorm, grabbing the temporary dye from his table before running to the bathroom. the two of you discarded the boxes without a second thought, mixing the contents on a palette you had also found in yoshi’s room.

bless that redhead, he has everything in his room.

“we just apply it like we do with normal hair dye, right?” you checked; brows furrowed unsurely. “i don’t know how this works.”

“i don’t know either.” hyunsuk shrugged, sitting in the middle of the bathroom as you stood with a paintbrush. “let’s just go with it. i mean, it’s temporary dye. i can just wash it off if we mess up.”

as soon as you placed the brush on the male’s hair, the door flung open with a crash, revealing jaehyuk and jeongwoo. you held a hand over your heart, completely startled by their appearance, while hyunsuk had a blank expression on his face, depicting he was used to it.

“hyung, have you seen asahi and haruto?”

“they are at the studio,” he responded, exhaling deeply. “also, please use proper manners and knock on the doors before you enter.”

the younger two nodded hastily, running out as soon as their leader answered the question. you went back to applying the hair dye, a small smile on your face as you could see how much your best friend adored his members — noting the way he had an apologetic expression while he sternly spoke to them.

“must be fun with them, huh?” you asked, outlining a blob before coloring in on his blonde hair. “your members, i mean,” you clarified upon seeing hyunsuk’s confused expression.

“oh, yeah. the boys are–” he paused, hearing someone call for him. “in the bathroom!”

jihoon stood near the doorway, brows raising as he saw you. “y/n? i didn’t know you were here. i could’ve — actually, never mind.” he shook his head, waving off his words before looking at the older male. “hyung, i won’t be able to make it to the meeting tomorrow, so can you fill in for me?”

hyunsuk nodded understandingly. “yeah, sure. don’t worry about it,” he responded. “is that it?” he inquired, wordlessly hinting for the male to leave so you two could get back to your best friend bonding activity.

well, yes, dyeing hair is a little extreme to be an activity for best friends to bond over, but with the rain, there wasn’t anything else interesting to do indoors.

the two of you exchanged small talk, catching up on the days you missed with each other as you wiped away the dye you accidentally got on the male’s face. you placed your hand under hyunsuk’s chin, gently pulling him closer as you focused on cleaning the area, oblivious to the proximity between your faces.

“if you are going to keep leaning in, you might as well lick the dye off, y/n.” hyunsuk joked, chuckling when you playfully hit his arm. “jokes aside, though, how bad is your eyesight for you to lean in so much?” his motherly instincts kicked in, raising his brow in question.

you scoffed, shaking your head. “it’s not that bad, okay?!” you defended. “i just wanted to make sure you didn’t–” your words fizzled out as you heard someone yell, knowing very well it was for hyunsuk.

“hyung!” junghwan called out, repeating the word until he found the elder in the bathroom. “hyu—oh, y/n, you are here too.”

“what is it now?” hyunsuk groaned, sighing frustrated at the constant disturbances from his members. “what is it this time?”

the youngest of treasure merely shrugged, smiling brightly. “i just wanted to hang out with you,” he answered innocently, getting an apologetic gaze from the eldest.

however, the silence that followed only lasted for five more seconds.

“hyung?”

“yes, hwan-ah. tell me.”

junghwan glanced at the box in his hand before giving his hyung a wary look. “why are you dyeing your hair?” treasure’s maknae continued. “did manager-hyung give you the permission?”

“i don’t need permission for temporary dye, hwanie.”

“the box says ‘permanent dye’, though.”

both you and your best friend paled at the youngest’s words, slowly grabbing the boxes you had ripped open, trying to find where it said ‘permanent’. and then you found it. you bit your lip, looking at hyunsuk as you practically saw his soul leave his body.

“suk, it’s okay, we can–”

“no! it’s not okay! i know you are laughing! shut up!”

you stifled your laugh as hyunsuk hurriedly tried washing off the hair dye; the regret settling in as he realized it was truly permanent. “it’s not that bad, honestly.” you tried assuring him, raising your hands in surrender when he gave you a look. “you look a beautiful rainbow cheetah.” you smiled, hoping it’d stop your best friend from glaring daggers into your soul.

“if my management kills me, i’m killing you, y/n. sleep with one eye open.”
