Everyone knew how things worked between you and Oikawa. 

Each day, you would arrive at school and go to your locker, getting everything ready for your day. After a few minutes, Iwaizumi would approach you and greet you before turning to his locker, which coincidentally happened to be placed next to yours. The two of you would make small talk for exactly two minutes, discussing random events from your days until Oikawa showed up. Once he showed up, everyone knew better than to stick around and after another thirty seconds, it was only you, Oikawa, and Iwaizumi left in the hallway. 

The next conversation would begin with Oikawa making some kind of snide remark towards you as he tried his best to make you act out. You would then give him a snarky reply of your own before flicking some part of his body (usually his chin) and turning away, ready to head to class. Then, Oikawa would stare after you for exactly three seconds before shouting some type of insulting yet flirty comment after your retreating figure as Iwaizumi slapped him upside the head. 

It was the same routine every single day and sometimes, that exact exchange would take place during lunch as well. If this were to happen, you would spend the rest of your day silent and annoyed, anxiously waiting for the bell to ring so you could leave the grounds of Aoba Johsai and not think about Oikawa for the rest of the day. Oikawa, on the other hand, would be visibly irritated up until practice, at which point he could work his frustrations off by practicing his deadly serves. 

The point is, the entire population of Aoba Johsai knew that the two of you weren’t friends and would most likely never be friends. So why was it that you two always seemed to be interacting in some way? 

To Iwaizumi, the answer was obvious. He knew Oikawa better than most, and the genuine (albeit tiny) smile and red tint to the tips of his ears that were present whenever he interacted with you revealed the way the setter truly felt about you. If that wasn’t proof enough, then the way Oikawa would rant about you was more than enough evidence. 

“Iwa-chan I can’t believe how infuriating she is,” Oikawa would yell, bouncing a volleyball against the ground a few times. “I hate the way she always has something to say and don’t even get me started on the way her eyes sparkle whenever she insults me back. Ugh!” 

“Are you sure you don’t like her, Shittykawa?” Iwaizumi would ask boredly, rolling his eyes when Oikawa began to fake gag. 

“Ugh, no! Why would I?” Oikawa replied, an expression of disgust in his face. 

Neither one of them commented on the fact that Oikawa would plan out his conversations with you ahead of time, determined to get even the briefest moment of your attention.
